Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Megaman X 1-3.  Man, did the bosses get more annoying as the series progressed. Sad

Oh yeah, the combat has worked great so far, I don't remember there being many fights that really require you to switch beams too much so it probably wont get as messy as I imagine it getting. It's just that having to flip over to the scan visor all the time early on wears thin real fast now that it's no longer a quick button press away.

I also totally hadn't considered the effect of the spring ball against Spider Guardian. Yeah, would make the game significantly better on its own.

Only time where I see beam switching being a problem is against Chykka and Emperor Ing due to their multiple forms. (Light/Dark Chykka and the defensive fields that Emperor puts up in his third form.) Although I don't remember having that much of a problem with beams and visors in Prime or Echoes when I ran through them when I first got Trilogy, but maybe that's just me.

And the Spider Guardian was a complete joke now as far as I'm concerned. Spring Ball completely destroys that battle. I didn't have that much of a problem against it before, but once you can spring up and attack it directly like that things become infinitely easier.

But overall, I have to agree with Toozin. Still doesn't pull Echoes out of the #3 spot in the trilogy, but it makes up a good portion of the distance between it and Corruption in my mind.

Just beat Devil May Cry. Awesome game. I love the simple combat and general atmosphere of the game's locations.

Now if only it wouldn't have forced hard mode on me ...

Hard mode will grow on you. I only do my runs on Hard these days, and I really, really sucked when I first played the game.

Hard is awesome because of the enemy placement. Enemies that give you more Red Orbs will appear much sooner. There's even a weaker ghost of Phantom (er... no pun), that respawns indefinitely in the courtyard and gives you 500 Orbs per kill. Best way to farm money ever.

And yeah, the atmosphere in DMC1 is very unique. Still the best environments in the series, and a very good looking game for early PS2.
I don't see why they bothered making any Pokémon games after RBY, they are unsurpassed.

OK obviously from a money grabbing standpoint, it makes sense to make more, but after GSC it seems like they ran out of ideas. Fast.
Mister ...
I liked some from the R/S/E generation, but only a small portion of what was actually there.  Also, Shinx (and evolutions) from the D/P/P gen has to be one of my all-time favorites.  I've nearly destroyed everything with just that one Pokemon.

I just had my N64 hooked up and checked my OoT and MM game files. I had gotten a surprisingly high amount of hearts in my first playthrough (16), while apparently never having obtained a single dungeon's fairies. What the fuck?

I also noticed that the N64 has quite bad video output. Seems like it was a good idea having bought the game on VC anyways. :p

My OoT does have the crescent moon, btw. The Fire Temple chanting seems to have been removed in all PAL versions, though.

My problem's that the game was difficult enough for a nice challenge. I'd rather chill through it and enjoy the atmosphere and everything on a second playthrough, so it's somewhat a downer for me. : /

I mean I had to use 2 yellow orbs on mission 2 already? Seriously? D:
I heard that the NTSC-J N64s had better quality video output. They get all the cool stuff.

But wait, you were forced to save the file on Hard? Are you sure you didn't _select_ Hard after beating the game? I'm 97% sure I finished like 5 Normal runs on the same file before even trying Hard mode.

Pretty much, yes. When it was done with the credits the game said "try challenging hard mode" and when I saved it said "Hard" next to difficulty. :|
I'm currently playing zero mission.  I'm mixing things up a bit with a 100% ridley first route.  It's weird getting all the way to chozodia without having acquired wave beam or screw attack.  Now I just need to get my fully powered suit, PB's and figure out how bad I can fuck up the item clean-up.
So I asked somebody else about that forced hard mode and got told the same story - that it's supposed to be optional.

Good thing I had a second save from Mission 21 which I loaded to beat the game again, but yeah, forced hard mode again. I really don't get this.

That's really weird. Maybe we're wrong. So many games of the type, and you can always choose the difficulty.

But don't give up. If you can beat Normal, you can beat Hard. And I am definitely, 100% sure the game won't force you Dante Must Die difficulty once you beat Hard, so after this run you can do your upgrading and scavenging back on Normal.
Totally fucked up my ZM experiment.  Went straight to ridley on the cleanup and saved, without thinking about how i basically needed wave to get some of the stuff down there.  I hate life.

Yeah, I was told by someone else that it's actually completely normal to be forced into hard on a NG+. Oh well, guess I'll just try my best, though Vergil and Nightmare should be my only concern anyways. I just somehow learned how to prolong basic combos with Alastor and completely annihilated Mission 1 (got hit only once).

Still, I'm going to watch an LP to learn some neat strategies for some harder enemies (fucking shadows) and especially Nightmare.

I usually forget to grab X-Ray in Prime. It's pretty shitty to realize that when you're already as far in the mines as you can get without them (if you don't know any trick possible at least). : /
So yeah, I bet everyone here has made a somewhat similar experience at least once.

There is one really cool strategy against Shadows.

I don't know if you noticed that several enemies in the game have critical weak spots. Against Shadows, you can jump straight up on top of their lance attack (you hear a growl before they launch it) and then blast their face with Ebony & Ivory. If you manage to bury enough bullets in 'em, they'll turn red instantly and give you a 300 Orb prize. It's very very awesome and prevents long fights.

You should note that Shadows are actually pretty docile enemies if you don't tease them too much. Get close to one, lock on and watch as it circles around you, just watching. This is where the solid combat system shines. If you use a Shotgun to expose their core, it won't take long at all, but you'll make them really mad and they'll be more aggressive. If you go with E&I they'll still fight back, but less aggressively.

They are actually my favorite enemies in the series. :)

Oh please, GSC was way better than the first generation. And what do you by "they ran out of ideas,"? They took a successful formula and built on it. They weren't just gonna do something completely different in the sequel, that would have diminished their fanbase big time.

Playing and speed running Zelda OOS again, got done with 2 segments just now, I kinda like my 7th seg. better than my 6th, because it could use some improvement. But over all, I dont think I did bad.

... awesome. I really always just spam shot them with my handguns and ended up getting raped by their constant attack spamming. Thanks, maybe I'll be able to handle them next time I play.

Also, ^, yeah I totally need to replay Oracle of Seasons (maybe Ages as well) pretty soon. A friend recently made some post about how they're the best Zelda next to Majora's Mask. Definitely need to look into that ..

Btw SKB, what time did you achieve with your last OOS speedrun?
red chamber dream
seasons is way better but yeah they're definitely up there with mm. i dunno if i can say they're better than oot for nostalgia reasons but they're the cream of the crop as far as zelda handhelds go.

I never did finish Oracle of Ages.  Maybe I'll do that sometime.

I think they should remake LA, OoA, and OoS using the graphics of minish cap.  I can't think of anyone who wouldn't buy that.
Ready to internet!
I'm trying out a Touhou game. It's making me slightly twitchy, on Normal mode D:
Club 27 Goals
Oracle of seasons has a giant blue bear with wings that lets your ride him if you give him bananas?

Sounds pretty awesome.
