Okay, so I borrowed The World Ends With You from a friend, and I have to say, I've never been more disappointed in a such an overwhelmingly praised game in my life. I mean seriously, what the fuck? It's like taking Jet Set Radio and Combining it with Series 7: The Contenders (stupid movie, don't watch it). You start off with yet another anti-social emo cuntfag with amnesia (thanks a lot, Nomura) who for some reason has a cellphone even though he hates everybody and will probably never used it up till you start the game.
And what the hell is "The Game" all about, anyway? I guess some sick bastard thought it would be fun to gather a bunch of teenagers and pit them against each other, and the "Noise" to prevent themselves from being erased. This brings the subject back to Neku. Why am I supposed to sympathize with this douche bag? His life is already worthless, so why doesn't he just get erased? It's a good riddance! The battle system is just total bullshit. How the hell am I supposed to pull off button combos and fuck about with the stylus at the same time? It's total multi-tasking overkill. And the auto-play feature barely helps at all.
I've heard this game's plot picks up at like the second or third week in the storyline, but I'm just not willing to struggle through all of that. If anyone wants to give me a semi-detailed synopsis of this game, go right ahead, and make sure to fill it with lots of spoilers, 'cause those usually encourage me to keep playing a game rather than ruining it for me.
rotfl. i loved the game. i also thought the story was interesting. just because neku is an "anti-social emo cuntfag" is not a reason for me to dislike the game. yeah, the battle system was tricky, but i got used to it.
I tried playing TWEWY. I played it for a couple of hours before thinking a combination of 'fuck this story', 'fuck these controls' and 'fuck this game'. I thought it was horrible. The dual-screen battle controls was like playing two enragingly shit games at once.

Yeah, that would be a bad reason if you didn't happen to take control of him for the whole freaking game!

That's exactly what I thought! Alright, screw this weaboo shit. I'm returning the game this weekend, and if I ever get the urge to play it again, I'll do it on an emulator. I doubt that would happen, though...
just finished mirror's edge. great game. looking at the shots of the city at the end makes me want a mirror's edge sandbox game. i liked that this one only showed you glimpses of it since it was a very focused story, but it would be neat to see it done in a different style.
I think the eventual Mirror's Edge 2 will be a great game. I don't think sandbox would fit with the art style because a lot of the city looked the same, you'd need environmental characteristics to define where you were within the game world. Also, the city would have to be pretty big to keep me interested.
it certainly looked big to me. but who says the next one has to take place in new eden? maybe the runners will decide to leave town and develop a messaging system in a more interesting city?
I thought I'd have a blitz through God of War, and was finding myself having endless grief with the box shoving thing near the start. I continued, and was then having issues opening a chest. Then I was struggling to do the fierce attacks on the netting. Then I was getting no response at all from the right side of the controller - triangle, circle, R1, and R2. Reset the machine - same thing. Tested with another game - same thing. Outcome: Dead controller. *sigh*
Shooting-based games have always been a bit alien to me. I just need to get the gun to point at and stay on the faces of the mexicans (or whatever hell they are)

ROFL!! That's the funniest thing I've heard all afternoon. Thank you.
Resident Evil 4 is actually a commentary on the state of immigration into the United States with particular regard to the situation with illegal Mexicans in the southern regions. Very deep game actually. High art.
One of the funniest things I have ever heard relating to immigration was when we were having a conversation about it, and actually discussing relatively seriously about solutions, and one of my colleagues just blurted out "Shotguns on the border." Classic.
Aside from Devil May Cry (which I should be getting either tommorow or the day after that) it seems I'll be playing only handheld games until the release of Mega Man 10.
Seriously. I'm still busy with Castlevania X Chronicles, I just got Final Fantasy PSP, am about to get both Rockman PSP games and now there's another game I'll have to get this month:
This looks so awesome now, I won't be having any troubles with being disappointed with them having strayed from the game's original gameplay.
My oldies-to-play list of 2010 still looks like this:
Nintendo - Super Mario 64, Galaxy - Metroid Prime, Echoes, Corruption - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess - Star Fox 64
Rare - Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest - Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie
Capcom - All 8-bit Mega Man games (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9) - Mega Man ZX, Advent - Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3 - Okami
Konami - Contra, Super C, Contra 4 - Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia
Sony - God of War, God of War II
Suda - No More Heroes
But I'll be crossing out something there tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, aside from the initial, "WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING?!" reaction everything I've seen from that has seemed pretty good. I mean it still borders on "why not just make a whole new game?" territory, but that's better than just a straight port to a newer system type of remake. I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

heh, the game takes place somewhere in spain. so you were close in a way, although the dialects are pretty different.
bioshock 2. holy hell i am loving this game. hard to tell if it can top the first, but this one's more action-oriented which i'm actually liking a lot. dual-wielding is great (hard to believe that wasn't in bioschlock 1), big sisters are great, weapons are great, the plasmids are ... the same so far. that's not really a complaint though; electro bolt still rules. protecting little sisters is actually way more fun than i thought it would be. think i'm going to just rescue them all the first time through.
the most impressive thing to me though is actually the sound, an aspect that kicked ass in the first game but is even better here. all the thumps from clomping around, melee attacking, firing guns, etc are top-notch. also seems like there's a lot more in rapture to look at. ironically it feels more alive 10 years later. just so much pretty stuff to look at, especially out in the ocean.
i haven't died yet (playing on medium/normal) but i hear the game is a lot harder than the first ... we'll see about that. i've also heard some complaints that it's too much like the first game. don't really know what to say about that except that i totally disagree that that's a bad thing. think the fast pace and being a big daddy definitely differentiates it enough from the first one, while still letting you keep all the cool stuff. makes me wonder what they'll do for bioshock 3 ... play as a big sister? ;)
You know the trailer's music won't be the same in the game? Wish the DS could pull that off, though.
Yeah, the remixes from the trailers just sell the whole thing really well. It's pretty much impossible to dislike what's onscreen when all that awesome is playing in the background.
Glad to hear someone who's opinion I actually trust say good things about Bioshock 2. I heard some bad things, but on a Gamefaqs forum you can never really take things at face value.
That is good to hear about Bioshock 2, I will agree with Toozin. I've heard similar things from reviews and such, but if the things they pegged have never bothered me in other games that are sequels before, I doubt it would for this once I finally get around to playing it.
And I am extremely thrilled to hear that being a Big Daddy is actually as fun as it looked, because unlike a lot of other people at first, that feature was one I was happy to hear about from the very beginning. Maybe I just like saving/protecting the Little Sisters or something? That part of one was definitely one of my favorite areas of the first game from what I've remember. (Really should play through that again one of these days - I've only played it once.)
