Quote from Da Dood:
And when you say "if you know everything about everything, the game gets easier", well, grass is also green. But that doesn't happen as quick as you say, you still need your quick fingers, and the sense of accomplishment is unbelievable.

In a fighter it means nothing for deep gaming.

Quote from Da Dood:
you still need your quick fingers

Quick reaction has not to be quick fingers. Requiering "quick fingers" is worst thing which can happen to combat-design, even for a fighter.

Quote from Da Dood:
we're way past the time when fighting a group of enemies was cheap

A cheap thing always stays cheap. Having the control over the camera like in third person you can organically go more into depth with your character and combat, it would give you control over more dimensions at the same time(better for mouse, but still possible for controller). You would feel more accomplished. But this way it is still flat, it is potentially still the same cheap thing.

I've never in my life read a post that said so many things with absolutely no reason or sense to them.

Wow. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Just saying the game is 2d despite it looks like 3d. (2D is good but 2D pretending to be 3D is another thing)
So you are still fighting with a horde in 2d.Yes, you can jump in the third dimension, as much as in terranigma on snes but there is no control over velocity/view-direction relationship. The depth is resolved when you are surrunded. It is cool if it doesnt feel like it to you. I wonder how good the A.I is. All I saw are Primitive patterns if you ask me.

Realized I missed a ton of weapons and accessories in Bayonetta. The claws, the ice skates, the rocket launcher, and there's this thing for parrying attacks... no idea where they are. Must find all the secret Verses I guess.

Will play some more tonight.

Good luck finding the purpose of all such things.

It is because you are just playing another shallow game without getting rewarded. Talk over.

I believe he was just talking about your need to throw all sorts of weird phrases into every post, when there is just no need.

I'm also curious to how much you consider yourself a gamer.  It seems that with such high expectations, and every game falling below par (in your opinion), do you ever enjoy that many games? (other than Metal Gear)

Currently just finished downloading Dirt 2, looks promising.

The last game I truly enjoyed was Tekken4.
(despite some balancing issues, for example brian had a too small confusing-potential but I am stopping talking about it since I think no one is interested in such deep issues).

If we are talking about games we have to distinguish between games just for quick and flat fun and games where you can grow and express yourself. Now I am all about the second part. I dont think it is me who sets high standards once you are there. It is the nature of the thing. Imagine you drive a bycicle and the chain is broken at one point. It is just a small cause but your bycicle is useless now. You can hardly reveal its potential (means drive). I can take countless examples. Just Taking Halo3 as example. How can you play this game to its potential if aiming isnt sticky and doesnt go fluid in simple but sweet harmony like in timesplitters. A small cause can ruin the whole thing for a game for those who actually want to get rewarded and grow in it. And to remain honest, I really dont know what the devs were thinking. Just shows how much they love their game over the money. Probably they thought halo3 is a fun shooter for flat burger kids anyway. I dont know.

I am also speechless how fanboys are hyping up Killzone2. Now put the visuals aside and regard the character-mechanics (this is one major part what sets the meats and bones for the whole game). Not only the cover-system is inconsistent and unrelyable. I have no problem to say it is designed without having any brain used since the results are speaking the truth. Clumsy aiming and running needs also work. The thing is just if show something up as massive action packed thing then you have to make sure to provide appropriate complementary things so that your game can drive, just like a bycicle. Otherwise the game tends to be broken quickly.
Did you like Tekken 6?

I think I am not qualified to talk or judge about tekken6 now. But I can tell you one very simple but ugly issue that really bothers me. I dont know it is my version but to make a throw(at least with paul) I have to push the buttons
"too simultaneously" what often results in kicking or punching instead applying a throw-attempt. Something like this never bothered me before, not in SF4(simultaneous hitting works with perfect tolerance), also not in  VF5.

Geez, what's with all this hate for DMC-style games?

My problem with those games is that the "style" they go for just looks boring to me, as a result my interest in buying those type of games stays pretty low. Keep in mind that I never had any interest in playing one of the Max Payne games because I didn't care for the "Hay guyz we got bullet time it's cooool!" angle. It comes off as some kid trying really, really hard to be cool, it just ends up looking lame.

I use the word "not authentic" for it but your wording brings it better to the mind. I absolutely agree on this and existent trend of coming up wannabe cool kids cannot be overseen. If you want a man then MGS-series is the reference. It sometimes may be a subjectiive and arbitary issue though. For me Killer Instinct is still a really cool and "authentic" game although you might think it wants to be cool. I think it is still in the right portions while KI2 totally exaggerated and was clearly a crying kid that is to take less seriously.

Just finished playing Dirt 2 for half an hour. When I first started I tried playing it like Burnout Paradise (my most recent racing game) and COMPLETELY failed the first race. After retrying the first race 5 times I finally got second, and got the hang of sliding and off-road races.

This game looks pretty promising so far, I like how it has achievements, exp, and stats.

I just went to the game store and I passed on Bayonetta.  I did pick up a used copy of Nights for wii, since I should never have traded it in years ago.  It's not a great game but I have been thinking about it alot since I used to own it.

Apparently there's a way to trigger some 8-bit songs in Bayonetta, including the main theme. I have no idea how to do that.

Starting my Hard mode run. I figured I'd look for missing stuff on new game+. It's too bad that on the hardest level they take out Witch Time, which I think is the defining feature of the game.

And I will someday do this to Jeanne.
Played Nights for a while...now I remember why I traded it in.  Guess I'll give Spirit Tracks another go.
red chamber dream
speaking of which, i'm at the ocean temple and the game's starting to get really boring. temples are fun enough, but the in-between stuff is the exact same as in phantom hourglass:

- solving a puzzle dealing with the snow dwellers (were they called anouki in ph too?)
- finding the crossing point between two lines of light
- drawing the symbol formed by random lights spread over an island
- 435908109 puzzles involving hitting four switches in a certain order
- the boat. er, i mean the train ...

these were all done in ph, only now they don't feel fresh anymore. in fact everything in spirit tracks feels really fucking old. it's seriously like they took ph and cloned it as much as possible because they knew zelda fans would gobble it up. i consider myself a zelda fan, but come on. even the train doesn't really bring anything new to the table – so far i've had no problems avoiding all the ghost trains, so it just feels like a more restricted form of sailing, minus the pretty ocean scenery. instead we get loads of shitty, low-res pine tree sprites!

btw what happened to all the good things i heard about the puzzles in this game being clever? i'll finish the game, but i'm not expecting much anymore. :/

difficult for me not to compare spirit tracks to majora's mask, but only to show how it should have been done. i don't mind all the repeat characters if they're used in a new and interesting way like in mm – but they weren't. the anouki are the same people used in the same way. how is that fun?
mm also had some totally new and different gameplay mechanics, some of which had to my knowledge never been used before in a video game. spirit tracks is literally just the [i]same fucking game[i].

fuck zelda. if the upcoming wii game isn't any good, i think i'll be done with the series.
What if Zelda 2014 is awesome?

I just watched that, and can now say that it's DEFINITELY not for me.  It is one of the many games that falls under my ever changing title of WHAM-BAM-HUGE SPECIAL EFFECTS-CAN'T SEE WHAT'S GOING ON-BOOOOOM-EXPLOSION-AWESOME.
I just watched it and it looked awesome.

If you like that style, then you should consider Darksiders.  It appears to play in a similar fashion, but I think it looks much better.

Went back to Arkham Asylum to finally continue my hard mode run, it's a little weird jumping back in halfway through after not playing for a while and forgetting that those attack indicators wouldn't be popping up when that guy behind me is about to kick me while I'm busy punching this other guy is not pleasant if you enjoy not getting kicked around.

So I was a bit rusty as far as combat went, even got killed a couple times but then everything clicked and right after the second death I went completely untouched on the retry and it was incredible.

I also learned that guys do sometimes look up during stealth segments on hard. I saw the guy doing it but swung over to that gargoyle anyway because they never see you up there on normal. It worked out about as well as one would expect.

Bayonetta on Hard is, well, damn hard. Like most games of the type, in higher difficulty modes you fight late game enemies earlier. I couldn't even handle the Prologue tutorial for Torture Attacks, made some items for easy magic. I made it to Chapter 2.

But since I'm missing so many items and weapons (my health bar is barely over 50% max), I'm gonna start another Normal run tonight and backtrack for lost Verses.

I'm glad Kamiya made the jukebox work exactly like Okami's. Blood & Darkness (the theme from that fight video I posted) plays on loop as I type this. ^^
