They use the enemy descriptions from the bestiary.

Hammer's shop is unlocked the usual way, by beating the armor boss in the library. But then the contents are totally random. You can get Claimh Solais there or just... knives and a bunch of rotten heals, haha.

ok i'm warming up to horizon zero dawn. i still hate the camera, but i'm starting to have fun
red chamber dream
also finished tales of zestiria which lost a lot of steam in the last several hours. the combat was pretty good though

It's done! Finished Castlevania: Bloodlines as Eric Lecarde.

That was really cool. Took me a while to adjust to Lecarde's spear, because OMG do I miss being able to whip diagonally up in the air like John does. Having multiple hit directions on the ground is nice and all, and the spear has good reach, but there are so many enemies in this game that are positioned just right to hit diagonally above you.

The super jump is sweet, though. It makes several rooms a cakewalk, most notably the clock tower-esque gear climb in the factory. I was also surprised that the super jump makes you invulnerable. I had no idea. Pretty helpful during boss fights to dodge some of the more nasty attacks.

Eric's special sub-weapon is also great. It seems more generally useful than John's lightning snake thing, in a 'panic button' kind of way. But the snake demolishes bosses.

This game probably has my favorite final stage theme in the series.

Marathon is over! Not sure what I'm playing next but it might be Mega Man 11.

What did you think of Alisha's role in the story?  I've heard some people criticize that.
red chamber dream
i couldn't care less haha. yeah i read about that controversy, and it sounds like the only people who were pissed were those who were misled by the marketing. apparently they made it seem like she was one of the mains, when she's not

i never saw any of the marketing so i had no clue
red chamber dream
i also skipped through most of the story...

Congrats!  I've always wanted to play that game.  I don't have a genesis and I can't get emulation to work right on anything except NES and SNES

Hey Opi:
Get Bizhawk. It is a magical thing.

ok horizon zero dawn is awesome. i can't put it down. it takes a bunch of great mechanics from every other open world game and combines them in a way that makes the game not get boring
One shall stand, one shall ball.
How did you make fighting shit not a chore? I started losing interest once I got a bunch of purple tier weapons and fighting anything was still felt like more trouble than it was worth. Maybe the inventory management just annoyed me too much to let me enjoy playing after a point or something.

i'm playing on easy which probably helps. i try to avoid combat unless i'm running low on items. i'm about halfway through the game and still have a couple of purple weapons to buy, but yeah i suppose the combat is getting kind of boring. if i start to not enjoy it i'll probably just forget about 100% and finish the story
I just got really bored with it after about 12 hours.  I just don't like lot's of dialogue or cutscenes.  The only times I had any fun was when I jumped into a group of enemies.  The game just didn't have enough action to keep me interested.
red chamber dream
huh that's interesting because once you get to the true open world part, it's all action with very few cutscenes
red chamber dream
but yeah the intro stuff is boring as shit

I don't know where I was, but I had just activated my first robot-giraffe map creature thingy.  It was more than being bored because I wanted more action.  I felt like after so many hours I still didn't understand how the game works.  I'm just not a fan of big open worlds.  I can't pass anything by and just focus on the next story goal because then I feel like I'm skipping part of the game, and I always try to 100% everything.  So I feel completely overwhelmed with choices and I never actually get anywhere in the game because I'm too busy trying to figure out why the devs went out of their way to put this or that thing in the environment, or what's on the other side of that river (even though it's not the direction I should be going), and so on.

Another thing I didn't like about it was I kept buying all kinds of weird complicated weapons, and found them to be practically useless compared to the stick I got in the beginning.  What's up with that?  Why some big expensive gun with all kinds of powerful sounding ammo, then when you go to use it you find it's shit.  This happened with every weapon I acquired in the game.  What's the point of getting more weapons if the stick works far better?
red chamber dream
it really doesn't. the most expensive weapons are soooo much better

i skipped most of them and saved up for the most expensive one, the shadow blast sling. it destroys anything in like 3 hits heh
red chamber dream
but yeah the game is a very typical open world. no idea how anyone thought this was a better game than breath of the wild, but hey

Yeah it's kind weird, tier 3 equipment doesn't really do more damage than the base version it just lets you do more stuff with it, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but it feels odd to find your new weapons aren't appreciably better at killing a Sawtooth than the stuff you had when you killed your first one.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is really fucking good. Probably my favorite game this year.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
lol yeah I've been playing it uhhhh.... too much. Only recently got to Chapter 3.
That's when the story really picks up. You're gonna love it.
red chamber dream
i can't wait to play it when it's half price
red chamber dream
it does look great

Man, I'm looking at all these people I don't know from Red Dead Redemption and am scared for their lives once things start to go bad, lol. Except Micah, he's an annoying prick who I will not miss.
