alright i've got 4 of the 8 characters in octopath traveler, and this game is really sick yall
red chamber dream
i can tell it's going to be fucking massive too

it's like, the most standard jrpg possible, but also not
red chamber dream
it's like they tweaked every single trope of the genre just enough to make it feel like something new
red chamber dream
as far as i can tell, pretty much all of the content is optional ... you really do pick your own path through the whole game
I started playing Chasm a few days ago and it's pretty fun.
Chasm looks nice, I might consider a purchase.

For now I'm still playing Hollow Knight. The game is pretty long.
red chamber dream
hopefully it isn't also... HOLLOW
I like turtles.

Really? I don't recall it being a particular slog when I played. Though I didn't go for "true" ending, and I did enjoy myself for pretty much the whole time, so maybe it just seemed less long to me.
I'm 14 hours or so in and nowhere close to the end. Metroidvanias usually last me this long (or much less) for 100% on the first playthrough.

Really liking the game right now. Lots of areas with creepy atmospheres.
I like turtles.
Have you done Deepnest? That probably took the cake for "creepy" through the whole game, though I liked pretty much every area.

red chamber dream
makes me want to try some of the older final fantasies

tl;dr hollow knight's really good. I enjoyed it despite some frustrating sections, but for what it is a 12 hour game would have been enough for me. the 30 hours felt kind of overblown
I finished Chasm.  It took just under 15 hours.  This game is pretty much a love letter to SotN, except the game creates a new map/seed for each playthrough so you'll never get to memorize the layout.  This keeps the exploration from getting quite as stale.
But there are so many similarities to SotN: same types of items, creatures/drops, stats, even an ever changing little image that represents your save file. You can definitely tell SotN was the biggest influence on this game.  Despite all my farming, I don't think I got 3/4th of the items.  I 100%ed the map but there were still some important things I didn't find.  Secrets are hidden well I guess.  There's even one door that that takes two keys and I never found the second key, so I don't even know what was in there.  I will definitely play this game again.

[pc] trails in the sky duology/trilogy: in progress

Great trilogy. You should also check out the Crossbell duology once you finish that. I could hook you up with English versions of those games.
At the rate I'm going, XSEED will finish official English versions of the Crossbell duology before I finish Sky Third.

Re Zelda

I basically haven't played any of the 3D Zeldas yet, but I watched a good bit of Twilight Princess, and that's currently the one I'm most interested in playing.

ahh finished shantae half-genie hero 100%. that was a pretty fun game, think i'll have to check out pirate's curse now

the only other shantae game i've played is the first one
Doesn't Risky's Revenge come before Half-Genie Hero, story-wise?

I have such a big backlog at this point that I haven't been as worried about completing stuff, unfortunately it's almost out of a sense of obligation so I am sometimes concerned that's not a particularly healthy way to approach a hobby. I guess I get slightly guilty because some of these are games I'd otherwise likely put in more time into for full completion.
Ah, the big backlog problem.

I try not to think too hard about it, try to tell myself not to bother making lists even though I inevitably do.  Because making lists sorta reminds me "you have this other thing that you meant to do", which detracts from getting lost in one game and enjoying it itself.

I wish they at least named it Octapath so I woulnd't have to think of octopuses every time I hear the name
I think of Splatoon every time I hear the name, instead.

just beat dkc3. man the endgame kinda sucks. the boss fight in the submarine is terrible and all you get for collecting everything is a cutscene...
DKC3 didn't impress me much; DKC2 on the other hand did.

yeah, half-genie hero is the latest one. i don't really care about story in platformers, so i have no problem playing them out of order

What's the trick for getting through fungal gardens?  I haven't had any trouble in this game until I got to this part.  It's like the difficulty went from 0 to 100 instantly.  Am I missing some kind of upgrade?  I went to fungal gardens after getting dash.

Have you learned that you can bounce off the mushrooms with a downward aerial attack? The game seems to think that's obvious but I was stuck for a good few hours with no obvious way to progress until I looked it up and learned that dair attacks are even a thing in that game.
red chamber dream
just got my first secondary job in octopath. think this is the first classic-style square rpg i've played, believe it or not. it's so good
red chamber dream
it's ridiculous how much free money you can get in battles with tressa's collect ability... so glad i picked her as my main

but then, all the good weapons are expensive af so it still balances out
