started up donkey kong country 3. it's the only one in the classic trilogy I haven't touched in years

super underrated game. i think people give it crap for being different from the first two, but it's just different, not worse. i enjoy it more than dkc1 for sure.

stages are more like puzzles than platformers, and the overworld is the best in the series
spot on. i'm honestly surprised that I haven't played this at all in the last 7 years wtf

I agree with ark. 2 is still my favorite though. 3's level design gets a little too gimmicky sometimes. But it's definitely a great game... I just beat Tropical Freeze and I'm kinda craving the original trilogy

ok i'm really getting into steamworld dig 2 now. guess it just took some time. i like how the map is more of a metroidvania type thing, you're not just digging down but rather there's a lot of horizontal movement too

Started a 3-heart challenge in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. So far I've done this in LoZ1, OoT, MM, TP and SS.

Wind Waker is very easy, but I'm playing on Hero mode where you take 2x damage. Let's see if we actually have to avoid things now. These aren't meant to be super hardcore challenges for me, though. I usually allow potions and such. It's just a fresh way to play the game.

Just cleared Dragon Roost Cavern. I had my first death to a series of poorly timed jumps (into lava). You usually do this dungeon with 3 hearts anyway, so it was pretty much the same. The only difference is that Hero doesn't have any heart drops whatsoever. But it does have fairies. I don't remember where other bottles are located (or how to make potions), which I guess is a nice opportunity to do some exploration and maybe find stuff on my own.

IMO this game is never not going to look incredible. The art style is so pretty and colorful. I also love the improvements of the HD version, like gamepad shortcuts and fast sail. This is definitely my favorite version of the game. Too bad WW has so much filler... I'd love to wait less than 4-5 years to feel like playing it again.

Will continue tomorrow.
the hd remake completely ruins the art though. it's weird that people at nintendo even let that happen

agreed :(

i do think the other changes largely make it the better version to play (unlike say, majora's mask 3d), but i pity anyone who only played the wii u version
I never played the 3DS remakes. What's the problem with Majora 3D?
The only "problem" would be that it's only on the 3DS

In other news there's now a Switch version of Toad Treasure Tracker ... but not of 3D World, which is one of the best Mario games and no one played it
I'm currently playing......nothing.

I can't get into anything.  The last game I tried to play was Dragon Crown Pro edition, and it's just not clicking with me.

Is Resident Evil Revelations any good?

they changed the zora swimming controls and made it much less fun to swim as zora link, which is one my favorite parts about that game

they also changed all the bosses and made them worse in every case. i have no idea why

all the other changes were great though, like the bombers notebook is way more usable

I actually like the changes they made to gyorg and twinmold.  the fights are longer and better.

I don't mind having to use magic to swim fast as zora because there's magic containers everywhere.  Or use chateau romani.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The Gyorg and Twinmold fights abso-fucking-lutely do not need to be longer.
Opus Magnum is a really good puzzle game and you guys should play it.

Half the game is a throwback to the RE classics (big environment, key fetching, at least an attempt to create tension). The other half is made of very action-y missions with set weapons in linear rooms. I personally find the slower paced sections much more enjoyable, but I've seen people feel the opposite.

The big source of replay value in Revelations is Raid, an RPG-like extra mode where you go through mini missions killing enemies and earning money/parts to build better weapons. As you level up, you unlock harder missions that require a bit more grinding to have a chance. The 3DS version was fairly balanced about the grind-to-chance ratio, but the console versions of Raid are pure Grind City. If you're OCD about completing games, expect to sink 60 hours into this one mode on consoles. 3DS Raid took me about 12 hours to complete.

Rev is also clearly a budget game, and you can see it in the recycled levels and fights and such. I like the game, but it's not for everyone.

Wind Waker HD, Forbidden Woods done.

Died a couple times to the boss. Respect, Mr. Neon Tentacle Flower.

I found a bottle on the path to Forest Haven (submarine hanging out in the ocean). It's helping a lot. I also found a potion maker in the forest. He makes blue juice for 4 Boko-whatever items, which are easy to come by. Pretty sweet deal.

And holy moly, I got the Swift Sail. This is what Wind Waker should have been since 2002. Sailing/exploring is much more satisfying when you don't have to constantly change the wind. Plus it makes the boat noticeably faster. Best improvement.

I'm having a blast. This game is so interesting mechanically... like, the combat is smooth and all the items interact with enemies and the environment in multiple ways. It's not like Twilight Princess where everything feels kinda automated and items are a bit too situational. Maybe I should look into TPHD?

They're basically different fights in the 3DS version so it's a moot point

It's like the 2nd best 3rd person RE so that's something.

How did they change Raid on console? S-Ranking everything on 3DS already took a while, but if I was only playing solo I wouldn't even care to touch Raid Mode. It's worth playing once just for the campaign
Dood Trigger™
They added 10 or so exp levels beyond the 3DS's max that are super grindy, and the damage values/part rarity were altered as well. On 3DS you shouldn't have to grind a ton to beat the next few missions, but on PS3+ you really gotta work for good weapons and damage.

Someone discovered that if you sprinkle forest water on that boss then it dies instantly.  I keep meaning to try it.
Dood Trigger™
Yeah, I always say I'm gonna try that but I forget...

Just cleared Forsaken Fortress mk-II.

That was some ugly gameplay in Tower of the Gods. I got stuck in one of the rooms, ran out of magic too. No idea how you're supposed to deal with those laser statues... if I get very close while aiming the Bow I have a tiny window to shoot, but that seems too risky for an intended strategy. +1 to "enemies I probably just tank in regular play".

I was scared of Hyrule Castle 'cause it's a big gauntlet room, but I got it first try. The parry QTEs are OP, and of course having the Master Sword speeds everything up.

Forsaken 2 was no big deal. It is a nice feeling going back there with an actual weapon to kill things.

Now that I have the warp song and Skull Hammer it feels like the ideal time to explore. I know there's a Great Fairy island somewhere that requires the hammer, and the double magic upgrade has something to do with... birds flocking, IIRC? Let's find out. I also want to grab some of grandma's soup (2x attack power until you get hit).

Bombs work iirc.
Dood Trigger™
Pretty sure I tried them... maybe they have to explode when the crystal/laser is out? I was too weak to try that, haha.

Yeah from how I remember I'd throw the bomb, the Beamos would wind up to fire at me, then the bomb would hit and blow it up. I think it works out so that your throwing range is right around its firing range so it should go active just in time for the bomb to blow up in its face.
