The graphic for the glowing targets is the only part of this that isn't reused content, so enjoy them!
I didn't even know you could go into the area where the targets are without loading some kind of game/timer or whatever.

The waterblight ganon fight completely sucks.  Once phase 2 starts, there's no way to damage him.  The arrows do a microscopic amount of damage and there's only 10 of them. You can't hit him with your spear because he's so high up, but you can throw your spear.  It breaks instantly and does a tiny tiny amount of damage. The only thing left after that is bombs, and you have to get hit by the bomb since you have to be so close to him when it goes off.  you die way before he does, because again they hardly do any damage.  What's left after that?

you can hit him with a spear if you jump then attack in the air, but it's tough to aim. i killed him using urbosa's fury. does a good decent amount of damage and stuns him so you can use your sword
100%ed Hat in Time now, it's good but way too short for something that calls itself inspired by SM64 and BK. The number and size of levels is fine even, there's just a huge lack of (meaningful) collectibles. Just put a bunch of purple notes and green stars everywhere, there's so much wasted space! If Odyssey overdid it, this is like the other extreme.
Finished the revali and mipha stuff.  Some of these shrines are pretty good.

After revisiting the GBA Metroidvanias, I thought it'd be cool to end the year with a DSvania mini-marathon. Starting with:

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
This game is awesome, but holy moly it can be grindy. Just beating the story doesn't require much farming, the problem is if you want... any cool weapon. The best stuff is locked somewhere at the end of the forging paths, so either you settle for less interesting weapons or you spend a LOT of time farming souls. Drop rates could've been a little bit more forgiving too (pre-Soul Eater Ring), especially because in DoS the soul's effect is enhanced the more of it you stack. I remember I was more patient about drops in my last run, but meh, I don't wanna go through all that every time I play this game. RIP Claimh Solais.

I'm not as familiar with DoS's castle as some others... I know you can sequence break the bleep out of this game with Cutall specials. I tried that once, but I ended up doing the areas I skipped anyway because I needed souls for my weapons. Gotta sit down sometime and learn that fast route.

Will take a break for a few days and then I'll start Castlevania: Jonathan of Charlotte.

PoR is a great game and I've been itching to play it again lately.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it <3 Haven't played it in years...

it's the only good cv game

ok i'm just trolling but it's the only one i've enjoyed
I enjoy it more now than when I first played it because when I first played it I didn't fully utilize all the options for combat.  You essentially control three characters at once, J, C, and J+C.  At first I just went with what felt comfortable and stuck with it, but subsequent playthroughs had me experimenting more with the options, and I'm STILL not fully realizing it all.  The game is deeper than it appears on the surface.

And the music is great. I have the collectors edition that comes with a soundtrack. So many great tracks.  This is the one I think of first

The Gears Go Awry is one of my favorite CV tracks ever

way more interesting than i was expecting
The botw dlc dungeon was more fun than all the others combined.  Got my motorcycle but don't really have any use for it.

Been playing portrait of ruin for the past couple of days and loving it.

I've seen a lot of posts on twitter about the motorcycle

ughhhh the english voice acting in xenoblade 2 is SO. BAD.

pisses me off to no end that they don't just offer the jap track. i'd be willing to pay up to $10 just to not have to listen to the god awful english
red chamber dream
and it sucks because the story seems pretty cool so far, yet the voice acting nearly ruins it

xenoblade x's va was WAY better in comparison

WAIT

there's a japanese voice pack on the eshop!! ok nvm this just made my night
they just added you to their weeb list son
I like turtles.

PoR has definitely grown on me over time. I do like how potentially breakable it is, and Charlotte is interesting just because of the versatility of magic compared to the more vanilla melee combat. I'd say OoE's combat is slightly better (more balanced) but that might just be based on my memories of attempting both on Hard Mode Lvl 1.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on that wagon. There's a ton of stuff that isn't subbed outside of story scenes and quests. The game also relies on audio cues, so not being able to understand what's been said could be a significant handicap.

Actually, that's an understatement. The most important combo system in the game relies on audio cues. Sure, there's visual feedback to it as well, but considering how much shit goes on in this game's battles, you'll want all the feedback you can get.

oh wow that's even worse then
