They are on Rare Replay. I just forgot to mention
OK, but they're not improved in any way vs. the xbla ports?
red chamber dream
it's the same exact game. all rare replay does is give you a pretty presentation wrapper around the xbla games. it literally just downloads them from xbla.
Thanks.

Speaking of pretty presentation wrappers, I ordered megan man legacy collection.  The describe it as 8bit with HD flair, whatever that means.  I'm excited to try the new modes, the random challenges, and some other cool stuff.

Quote from Serris:
And DK64 exhausted me on the genre for the rest of my life.

DK64 is kind of a cautionary tale in collect-a-thons. That game has way too many items on the shopping list. Banjo-Kazooie is a much more compact game with better pacing and more creative worlds.

Fungi Forest in DK64 was supposed to be a BK level IIRC... no wonder it's the only really creative level in that game
Yeah, but the elements are still the same. BK is an exploration platformer, but it's neither platformy nor explorative enough for me, and stupid minigames that are neither get in the way all the time.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

Are there any Mario 64 clone kickstarters? I don't keep up with this stuff at all.

Look into A Hat in Time.

Quote from Opium:
When is it coming supposedly?

Currently Bloodstained has a March 2017 release date. So far away. :(

Yeah A Hat in Time should be more platformy and less of a treasure hunt than BK (at least from what I've seen of it)
red chamber dream
aw, bk's minigames are great. some of tooie's went a little overboard, but dk64's are fucking legendary. easily the best part of that game (i think dk64 these days is underrated as a whole).

i like collectathons. don't see what's wrong with them—they're basically just a reason to explore everywhere and see the whole world, and for devs to hide stuff in cool places. that's everything i want in a game.

I like turtles.
The only problem with collectathons is that the first Jak and Daxter game decisively ended the whole genre, or at least made itself very difficult to top.

Like, even the sequels didn't want to even try and aspire to their own predecessor.

yeah, the sequels went in a different direction, but i think that was because naughty dog got bored, more than anything.

jak and daxter may have been the pinnacle of the genre, but i certainly don't like it nearly as much as either banjo game. those are still the gold standards of 3d platforming imo. have never been close to being topped.
red chamber dream
jak 1 greatly lacks personality ... it's two flat characters + gorgeous environments, and that's it
red chamber dream
banjo is fucking oozing with humor and funny characters and quirky music and all this other great stuff besides the actual gameplay
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I was not impressed much by Jak and Daxter. It's alright but I would never call it the pinnacle of collectathoning.
red chamber dream
i mean pinnacle as in it marked the peak of those games being developed

before and after, they were never as popular
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Oh okay, yeah that's probably fair.
red chamber dream
that said, i'm not sure how you couldn't be impressed by that game in at least some respects. the entire game is one seamless world with no load screens. in 3d. in 2001.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
It's technically very impressive. I just wasn't thrilled with the gameplay mechanics.
red chamber dream
oh, yeah i totally agree

moving horizontally was super fun, but that's it

one of the main reasons i love banjo is all the movement options you have
I like turtles.
Maybe I should attempt to play that game at some point.  I do appreciate good movement...
red chamber dream
it's so good dude

seriously one of the best games ever made

Found the Star Fox 2 translated beta and I am effin' hyped. I'll come back later with impressions if (hopefully) the game works and I can beat it.

Yay!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Star Fox 2 is a neat little Star Fox 64 prototype.

Too bad all of them are accompanied by annoying sounds. HOO HOO SQUAK SQUAK HOO HOO HOO HOO HOO
red chamber dream
haha i legit fucking love that
red chamber dream
it's so funny, every sound banjo or kazooie makes in that game is burned into my brain
