DKC2 is easily the best in the series. I think I enjoy playing Tropical Freeze more than it these days, but I can easily say that DKC2 is the better game.
Dood Trigger™
I got Tropical Freeze but haven't played it yet. Heard great things about it!

You don't need to shake the controller to roll, hopefully, right? >_>

Only if you play with the wiimote. But there's no reason to at all.

i still need to finish that game. i'm on world 6 so i gotta be getting close

world 6 is the last one iirc.
red chamber dream
isn't there some secret unlockable world too? think i remember reading that

Yeah, I think so. You pretty much need 100% to get it I think.

I've done it but I forget the details. It's been a while.
red chamber dream
oh then i won't bother lol

that game has way too much bullshit to 100%

I thought it was pretty fun getting all the things.

Understandable. Those bonus levels can be pure hell.
red chamber dream
yeah, some people really love it but it's my type of difficulty

it seems more like just memorization
red chamber dream
it's super fun when you can just zip through it after practicing, but i'm only interested in the fun part haha

it's a video game, i don't really want to work for it

That's one of the reasons DKC2 is so great, because the levels are pretty fair to navigate, and there isn't a whole shopping list of items that you need to find compared to other games. I've been meaning to replay DKC Returns for like... 5 years now... I did enjoy it but I don't know where to find the incentive to go back.
It's good to hear that your characters gains EXP by forging and enchanting. The grindy aspect Toozin described reminded me abit too much of FFXIV, in which secondary skills were so grindy it killed the game for me.

[...] but for me I think the issue is I just haven't played a game like that before.

It's definitely something you need to get into. I've had problems with Skyrim now although I've played and thoroughly enjoyed Xenoblade before, consider that. But maybe the big difference for me is just the setting and the fact that I have a full time job now and am juggling playing 5 different games and being productive. >_>

Quote from Toozin:
Just do what you do in real life and ignore the things that don't concern you.

Heh. That's actually a bit of problem I have with Skyrim now. I started to enjoy the game more when I began thinking like that, because I could just ignore all the NPCs as that's what I'd do in real life. Who talks to everyone in the streets, or listens in on every conversation between strangers? That's be nuts! However I've already had a change of heart when I considered that the worls of Skyrim is too different from RL. I feel like in Skyrim I have a bit of a reason talking to people, even if only to figure shit out. And asking strangers on the street for the way is something that feels natural even in rl.

Finished DKC2, 102% complete.

Wow, that was fast.
I haven't played the game in years. If things work out well I'll get a new Super Famicom sometime later this year and get to replay the game as well.

Exactly. People in Skyrim concern you because many of them have shit for you to do for cash money.

Just because the world isn't built around you doesn't mean there isn't still an obscene amount of people that rely on you and no one else to get things done.

Yeah, it's fairly short for 100% completion. I think it took me about 4 hours but I wasn't rushing or anything. I played it in a couple of sittings.

I started Final Fantasy Tactics and I'm not totally sure I'm not cocking everything up. I tried to get through the tutorial, but it's long, text-based, and non-interactive, which is just the worst kind of tutorial, but I more or less get how everything works. It's the finer details I'm not sure on. I class changed most of my squires into knights, but I'm not sure if I should do that. Knight should be better than squire logically thinking, but there might be some benefit to keeping them squires that I'm not aware of. I'm also not 100% sure how death works. I know if they turn into crystals they're gone forever, but what if the battle ends before they crystalize? Are they alive, or do they specifically need to be phoenix down'd before the battle ends to save them?

Feeling extra stupid because I had no idea that you can use Shinobu and Henry in No More Heroes 2's Death Match mode (aka boss rush). Gotta try that later.

Finished NES Legend of Zelda with 3 hearts. Like all my recent 3-heart runs in Zelda games, these aren't meant to be the ultimate hardcore challenge or anything. The only limitation is 3 hearts, everything else is fair game. I can still grab the rings and shield and potions and such. Very tough run here, even so.

The worst part about 3-heart in this game isn't even the damage, it's the swords. You need hearts to upgrade swords, which means that you're stuck with the "It's dangerous to go alone" crappy wooden stick for the whole game (there is one exception later). At least I could grab those 4-5 free potions instead of the Heart Containers in the caves.

Dungeon log text below.

Dungeons 1 through 5 were reasonable, outside of 8 hits to kill Blue Darknuts. Order was 3 2 1 4 5. I had to reset once at Level 1 because I killed the dragon at the wrong side of the room. Pretty sure there's no way to avoid collecting the Heart Container unless you finish off the boss at the right-most spot.

Dungeon 6 was the usual nightmare. I hate Wizzrobes... so... damn much. And the irony about this level is that you do collect a very good item inside, whatever that magic wand is, but it doesn't affect the mages at all. I made progress slowly, one room at a time, and took every possible shortcut to avoid fighting the Wizzjerks. Still, once I left Level 6, the wand proved to be quite useful because it is essentially the Master Sword with a perma beam.

Dungeons 7 and 8, as always, were a breath of fresh air after 6. I explored them fully and got all the items inside, including the bomb upgrade. I actually finished 8 before collecting the skeleton key, and I still had 13 keys on me, which might have been enough to deal with Level 9, but I decided to backtrack and grab it anyway. I also went back to Level 5 and got the other bomb upgrade which I had missed because... I had no more bombs to access the room.

Level 9... Jesus. I think it took me as long to beat this dungeon as all the other dungeons combined. The "Go to the next room" fight was a giant pain because it's the only way to Ganon + Silver Arrows, and no matter what you have to kill the Wizzrobes there. At least other rooms despawn the mages/mini-bosses permanently, but that one would respawn 5 or 6 if I died anywhere after it. And then that one room with Wizzrobes and bubbles in a cramped space... ugh. I only got through it because one of 'em dropped a clock. Like Like ate my shield too, because why not? The good news is that I learned how to deal with that insect barrier mini-boss. Both patterns are pretty easy to handle if you watch where the boss goes. And Ganon was cake even with 3 hearts.

Fun stuff, anyway. I learned a bunch and I enjoyed most of it. Next 3-heart run will probably be Twilight Princess. I've done LoZ, OoT, MM and SS so far.

You should wait until Twilight Princess HD comes out and do a three heart run on hero mode with the Gannondorf amiibo scanned in so you take 8x damage. That's the test of a real man.

Now that's true!
Beat Final Fantasy V for the first time this weekend. Pretty fun game. I barely had any clue what I was doing when it came to planning and leveling up jobs, but oh well, I made it through either way.

oh boy oh boy! I love that game. And yeah from what I remember playing it onthe PSP many many years ago I just skipped the tutorial and google'd all my questions. The tutorial isn't fun.

This will come in really handy for you. The way the job system works is a bit convoluted but hey, it's a neat system.

When a character is downed, there should be a timer indicating how many turns it'll take before they perish for good. If you don't pheonix down them in time, they're dead forever. I honestly can't remember if the battle ends before the timer stops if they're dead forever, but I'm really sure you don't want anyone on a timer when the battle ends.

I'm having a pretty hard time with it. I'm on a fairly early mission and getting my ass kicked by enemies two or three levels above me. I can't wrap my head around how to approach battles. I think I'm too used to Fire Emblem. Do I have to be grinding? I really don't want to be grinding.
