I haven't tried BlargSNES yet.

Really?  What do you use to emulate SNES games, and is it any good at it?  I wouldn't mind playing MMX without absurd music slowdown...

Snes9x 1.53 is the best SNES emulator. This should be common knowledge?

I think we're just talking about snes emus for the 3ds.

I haven't tried to play snes on my 3ds.  The reason I hacked it is because I wanted to play a gba game on it. It ran like crap and was unplayable.  That's when I learned that gba sucks for 3ds atm, but snes and nes work great.  I kind of wasted my time.

"SNES works great" might be a bit of an exaggeration.  The compatibility list is spotty at best and most games I've tried have had major BGM slowdown.  Not to say I couldn't play them still, but I would never choose to on that platform when it's performing like that.
Is it at least better than snemulds?  That was the snes emu ds.  It was unplayable.

I never tried DS emulation, but I suppose you can at least say for BlargSnes that it's playable.  Again, it just wouldn't be my first (or even second) choice of platform to play SNES games as it is right now.

Borrowed Dragonball Xenoverse and played it a bit with a friend last night. Who thought It would be a good idea to lock the versus mode behind some solo player missions? Oh well.

Although in genreal it sure feels like they didn't care about the offline versus in this game. Real bummer. The game is a step back towards the PS2 era of Budokai Tenkaichi games, which is good because the games on PS3 weren't as fun, but it's still not quite there. The controls are just reprehensive. Guard on L1? Going down on L3? wtf. The combat itself is otherwise ok. It's Budokai Tenkaichi somewhat simplified. As for the single player mode, I can't say that I'm a fan. The combat is a bit too repetitive for that. It might get better later on when you get more items and skills though. However the part where you create and customize your own character is dope. We made a pink Frieza with a long nose and Cell-like chin, and then gave him sunglasses. The guy looked so hilarious we had quite a blast with the game just thanks to that.

But nevermind the single player. It's really too bad the offline multiplayer mode is so lacking. There's only 1 arena, no music, no character win or starting quotes and animations, no annoucner and you play both on 1 screen so you can't move towards and away from your opponent as freely as you could in the PS2 games. You can't can't make more than 1 custom character from the start so it's sad we couldn't create some other hilarious guy to have our pink Frizea fight against. :(

I would probably buy this for 10 bucks or so. No more.

Finished all episodes of Back to the Future (Telltale game). That was my first playthrough.

Pretty relaxing game. It's nice not having to worry about deaths or physical challenges for once.

I played at moderate hint level and with pop-ups turned on. Puzzles were mostly logical and easy to solve, despite the camera transitions sometimes working against you, and Marty refusing to face the right item (I eventually realized that the right stick cycles through all on screen objects). If I got stuck it was usually just a matter of exhausting all the dialogue options, which got a little tedious, especially in the bigger rooms with a lot of potentially important objects to examine. But that's true for most point and click style games.

Story started out slow, but in the end it had some twists and character development. Episodes 3 to 5 had the most interesting ideas IMO. Can't say I loved the 1930s Hill Valley they came up with, though I guess that was the last time period with any of the known characters alive. Anything with Biff sucked, which was a real disappointment. He was either a wimp or literally a robot. And most episodes were a bit too long with the same areas overstaying their welcome. But it was a cool ride regardless of the stuff that bothered me.

This was my first Telltale game too. Good to know they're carrying the old LucasArts legacy well. Made me feel like playing Grim Fandango again!

BttF was good fun. Telltale usually makes a good romp, but do note that from The Walking Dead onward their games are less adventures and more interactive stories. Still good, but a different animal. If you want more puzzley adventures from Telltale, their Monkey Island and Strong Bad games are both great.

Speaking of interactive stories, I borrowed Until Dawn from a friend and what a great ride that is. Fantastic sendup of horror movies with some genuinely tense moments. I was doing great for a while but lost over half the cast in the last chapter. I might have go through it again sometime and get everybody to live.

Heard nice things about Strong Bad. Thanks for the suggestion!

oh man i really want to play until dawn, but i've got plenty of other games to play first, so i'm waiting till it's free on ps+. because you know that game is going to be free on ps+ sometime soon.

I dunno about "soon." It did really well at retail afaik.

I suppose it doesn't sometimes.

i don't think anyone understands why certain games get on the list and others aren't. i'm sure sony's deals with publishers are very complex

Well there's rumors in the mill about some kind of follow-up, so I could see them putting it up on PS+ once that's closer to release to drum up .

So I tried Baldur's Gate Ascension (old console Diabl) and hey that shit's pretty good. Even graphically it was impressive, and the UI interaction on the console was so ahead of it's time.
Then we got drunk and played Portal 2 and got stuck
So then we booted up Halo 3 ODST and the campaign for that game blows so much cock for the first 45 minutes. Maybe it gets better but we didn't give it a chance. I might elaborate on this more but it takes a lot for a game to be boring and bland when you're two dudes hyped up on caffeine and buzzed
So then we played Peggle and beat a bunch of challenges and my friend wanted to pass out so I started up Infamous 2 Son something and it's actually really impressive.

My battle versus the Backlog Beast continues with LittleBigPlanet. I got this for free via Sony's Welcome Back program, and it was collecting digital dust on my PS3 since then. I finished the story in a couple of sittings, must have taken 4 hours or so. Pretty short campaign.

This game clearly has massive value with the level editor and what seems to be an endless amount of customization and collectables. The floaty physics and the platforming in general didn't grab me as much I imagined, though. I didn't fail too many times, but I often felt kinda cheated by the physics when I died. Depending on where you're standing on certain surfaces, and if/how they're moving, Sackboy might do a little hop instead of a real jump, or he might bump into the side of a platform. The last few levels (especially The Bunker) were hell because of this. And one time in the mines I was riding a mine cart and it landed on top of another cart that happened to crash upside-down right in front of me. Had to retry at the very end. Background/foreground confusion was also annoying sometimes.

It's a cool game, though, full of charm and imagination. I liked many of the levels like the car one and all the ninja stuff. The game looks great, and even though the platforming made me raise an eyebrow a few times, I do appreciate how literally everything is affected by the physics engine. And the level creator must be a ton of fun. I'll come back and give it a try some other time.

Really itching to try Deadly Premonition again, but I know I'll just get frustrated with the framerate...

Honestly I'm surprised Little Big Planet didn't encourage Nintendo to bring forth Super Mario Maker sooner. Surely they saw that, saw all the fan-made Mario levels, and realized how neat it would be to make something official. Maybe they felt like the wii just wasn't capable, or they already had the gamepad idea of the WiiU controller in the works and decided to wait on it

Nintendo seems to intentionally ignore everything non-Nintendo.

lbp: great music, shit gameplay
I may have totally gotten into lbp if I had owned a PS3 around the time the game came out.

Yeah I'm not sure how good Mario Maker would be on the Wii. The gamepad works so well for that game. Imagine having to do every little thing on the real screen with the Wiimote... nudging objects 1 pixel to the right... it would drive me insane for sure haha.

d-pad for pixel-precision seems pretty easy to me. (or nunchuck analog stick)
no point in a level editor unless you've got mouse controls or touch controls. making a level for mega man powered up felt anything but comfortable
