Custom Edition is still worth looking into because theres a metroid mod. Some of Tallon IV has been recreated with the proper weaponry, it's for online multiplayer.
Ha I guess I like the violence. I talk to the monsters I'm killing, and say shit like 'You want some of this? Die, cunt! Oh you want some of this too? Eat shit! Die you fuck. That's right, I'll fucking kick your ass. Bitch.
I played and beat The Order 1886. What a joyless slog that was. I didn't have high expectations at all going in and it still managed to let me down. In terms of sheer graphical fidelity it looks great, very clean and detailed. But everything looks so drab and washed out in sepia tones that it doesn't even matter. The gameplay is just basically steampunk Gears of War with the very occasional werewolf fight thrown in (and they somehow manage to make fighting a werewolf drab). The story shows promise with some neat ideas, but ultimately focuses on the absolute least interesting parts of the setting. Just a failure through and through.
I also played a little bit of Hatoful Boyfriend, and once you get passed the "haha, I'm trying to fuck a pigeon" aspect of it, it's just a typical romance visual novel. Kind of a bummer.
Just finished Deus Ex. What an amazing fucking game, man. If you like old school shooters and/or first-person RPGs and haven't played this game, you are missing out. It's soooo good.
Finished Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge for the first time. I kinda hate that this game is good after being tortured by vanilla NG3... but yeah, it is good.
I noticed that many enemy waves are much shorter in RE (less waves too?). Sure took 'em a full game and a half to realize that no one wants to fight 85 enemies in a row with a slow paced, repetitive combat system like the original NG3's. Definitely a change for the best. Same with the faster Kunai climb and other dumb QTEs. And of course, the combat itself is much more fluid and open now.
Playing Xenoblade Chronicles X. It's great so far, easily living up to my fairly hefty expectations. It's also huge in scale, almost overwhelmingly so. I think I have a handle on things now, but they throw a lot at you very quickly and don't always explain it all. It's addictive as hell though.
It seems like every time I finish a massive open world RPG there's another one right around the corner. What a great year it has been.
Man, Undertale really is very nearly as good as its hype. Which is saying something because usually no game is as good as that level of hype. Highly refreshing change of pace, makes my own aspirations as a game dev seem shortsighted and petty. Several of the boss battles are also surprisingly difficult (and one of those, to a ridiculous degree).
I must be about halfway through my first 2016 game: Metal Gear Rising.
Still feels like I'm learning the basics, despite being in File 05 now. The combat is rewarding and clearly it has a lot of depth, but several hours into the game I'm still adjusting to the parrying system and the Ninja Run. It's just weird coming from similar games and suddenly not having a proper dodge or lock-on. The latter throws me off all the time especially because (from what I understand) the parry requires facing the enemy, so I often have to move the camera before I can do something. The camera is also a major struggle vs. the bosses because most of them are fast and they dash all over the room.
That said, the game is really cool. I love the cutscenes and the crazy combat. I haven't played MGS2, but based only on this game I don't get the Raiden hate. He looks awesome and he's a ninja. His voice actor sounds kinda whiny at times but it's no big deal. As far as gameplay goes, I don't understand very well yet when exactly you're rewarded with a QTE, but I'm slowly getting better at cutting the weak spots. Compared to when I played the demo, I definitely made a lot of progress. Getting grabbed in this game sucks though. My control stick doesn't deserve all this punishment.
I also like how you can usually approach the missions either with stealth or just Ninja Gaiden everything. I probably fail the stealth stuff more often than I should, but I like that the option is there. \o/
Da Dood, you are playing Raiden post-badass upgrade, which he received in Metal Gear Solid 4. In MGS2, he was a whiny brat with a whinier girlfriend. The reception might have been better if there wasn't that bait-and-switch though (if you're not aware, you were led to believe Solid Snake was the protagonist of the entire game, even to the point where they doctored screenshots of Raiden's portion to feature Snake as the playable character).
Personally I never got the hang of the parry system. It felt far too picky in its timing and positioning for something that is absolutely required to master to beat the game on normal difficulty.
Yeah, the parry sure is picky. So far at least I can afford to make mistakes. I imagine the harder difficulties won't be as forgiving.
True about the Snake trickery in MGS2. I guess I would have been mad too, haha. But having only played this, he's just a really cool looking character that does flashy moves, which I'm okay with. :)
Finished MGR. I loved the game, it is awesome. The combat is rewarding, the pacing is great and the cutscenes/bosses are as crazy as I expected. I'm sure people yelled horrors at the game's length (I finished in about 5 hours), but just like Platinum's own Vanquish, there's definitely enough content and variety in one playthrough. It was also easier than I thought it would be, so next time I might jump right into Hard mode.
The one thing that still pisses me off about this game is when I have to hammer the control stick to get out of a grab/stun, but it's the kind of thing that must get better in replays.
Anyway, great game. Will play it often for sure. I kinda want to rush through NG+ to get the rest of the upgrades, maybe I'll do it...
I'm not sure what system you're playing it on, but you might want to check out the marketplace/psn because I was able to get all of the dlc for free on the 360. There's some neat stuff there.
Playing Lords of Shadow on Hard Mode. This game could be so much better if it weren't for some glaring issues. It's like they released it before they were finished polishing it. Most notably is how you have to let go of the control stick and re-orient your direction every time the camera changes views. Damn shame.

It's hilarious how much of a middle finger to hype media MGS2 was.
Started Alien: Isolation last night. I don't think I'm very far considering that the Alien has only appeared once, but the way this game does suspense I wouldn't be surprised if I'm already like halfway through the whole thing. 95% of the time nothing happens, but I'm always scared that the next moment will be part of the other 5%. Well played, game.
from what i've heard that game is way longer than you would expect. 15-20 hours. that's actually the main complaint i've heard—it's good, but outstays its welcome. interested in hearing what you think ... i've always wanted to check that game out
Yeah ark, I heard the same. That the intro of the game is like 4 hours long. I don't know if I like the idea of such a long horror game but so far I'm having a fun time. I'll play some more tonight.
