I finally got my horse in Darksiders.  The game just doubled in coolness.  Using your weapons while riding feels great.

Playing Darksiders2 now on WiiU.  I got the game plus all DLC for $9.99.  The game is much more complicated than the first one.  Darksiders 1 was an action game, but 2 is definitely an action RPG.  This threw me off at first because I really don't like studying a bunch of stats, attributes, skill trees, leveling and upgrading system, etc etc. But after watching a bunch of videos and reading a lot I think I understand it now.  Still wish it was more like the first one though.  Darksiders 2 immediately seems like Skyrim.

Darksiders 2 makes equipment management super easy. The on screen popup immediately shows if dropped loot is better than what you have, and you can instantly equip it with a button press without ever going into a menu. It's pretty elegant.
I just hate having an incredibly huge number of choices when nearly all of them are inconsequential.  I have over a dozen gloves to wear and none of them really make a difference at all.  It just seems so pointless and busy.

Just sell the ones you aren't using. There's no reason to keep them all around.
Sure, I'm just saying it's stupid to have them in the game if they aren't important.  I'd rather have silver and gold gauntlets like in Ocarina than 60 different kinds of gloves that don't affect any outcome.
I think some people just like to horde shit or fuck around in menu screens with numbers.

That's just how those types of games roll. I'm guessing you're not a fan of Diablo?
I haven't played it.

I think I just like games where I have to stay focused all the time or else I get bored.  The action has to stay live.  When I'm in a menu I feel like the game is on pause and I feel like taking a nap.  ADD maybe?
Even during live action I like shit to just keep coming at me.  Riding my horse across a barren field for 10 seconds without having to dodge or jump or fight even bugs me. I need to constantly be pushed.

Nothing wrong with liking something and disliking other things. Inventory management isn't for everyone.

Just use the quick equip liberally and you won't have to spend much time worrying about equipment.
Did you play through both darksiders games?  Which one do you like more?

I liked 2 better overall. I hear a lot of people say they prefer 1 though.
I like turtles.
It's been really odd hearing the Internet rave about AC:S the way it is, without my having played Unity first, because it seems clear to me that they're only receiving it as well as they are because it's not Unity - hard to go anywhere but up from there.

I mean, it's still good.  I'm enjoying the return to a single, focused game map as opposed to lots of little islands with nothing much to do.  Combat is fun, if a little unpolished.  Waaaaaaay too many collectibles, even by the standards of this franchise.  Painful pandering to Tumblrites in the writing.

Starting to think this series has about run its course unless they do a drastically different location/era, and/or make the modern day parts interesting again.

They need to rebuild it from the ground up. The mechanics are too dated by this point.

Syndicate apparently had the lowest week 1 sales in series history so hopefully that will open some eyes.

i just got unity for ten bucks actually heh, maybe i'll enjoy it now that there's patches

haven't played syndicate obviously, i'll pick it up when it's much cheaper though. agree the series isn't really going anywhere these days

Finished Circle of the Moon on Thief mode. 2 hours. That was the last mode I had to do on this cart.

This is like Luck mode from SotN. You get a ton of drops in exchange for crap stats. It's pretty fun to always get something when you kill enemies. I had like 40 potions at one point. All the Leather Armor and Wrist Band drops get old, but I often score the rare stuff too. The more important cards dropped ASAP, and I also got 2 Strength Rings from the bears. Great damage boost for that mid-game part. Wish I remembered the location of the enemy that drops the OP armor.

As usual I did the Underground Waterway early, skipping two full areas. I'm not sure that's a good idea in these extra modes 'cause it is so hard to get through the sewer at a low level, but I made it. Camilla was a joke with the poison shield. I don't know why I'm so afraid of this fight. Maybe I didn't know you can just crouch to avoid the laser... at least I don't remember doing that before.

Dracula was scary, but I killed him on my third attempt. The fight took forever, though. Easily 15 minutes. I was dealing 19 damage to him, and that was with the DSS combo that gives you 25% extra power. LOL. I could only avoid the meteor shower by pause buffering my movement. This attack is very cheap IMO.

Glad it's done. Still shaking after killing Drac. I might play an easier CV later to blow off steam.

Wow 2 hours.  Well done!

Which mode did you enjoy the most?

Thanks!

I think they all have the good and the bad. Magician is a lot of fun with all the cards. I don't normally collect everything when I play CotM (far from it), so maybe that was the most unique extra mode for me. I love how OP you are on Fighter, but not having cards is a pain sometimes. Shooter is a love letter to Cross spam, and Thief is good revenge on RNG. I like them all, but I probably still prefer just playing good old Vampire Killer.
What's OP and RNG?

I prefer Vampire Killer as well.  The other modes are kind of a novelty.  I think CotM is an underrated CV game.  The DSS system was a great and fun idea.  I'd love to see the game remade.

When I bought it new, the guy at the game store was like 'That's the best game ever!'  Then when I played it I hated it.  It had to grow on me.

It is a sweet game. Pretty ambitious too for the first portable SotN style Castlevania. The castle is huge and there is a crapton of content.

My biggest gripe with CotM is that you kinda have to fight the screen scrolling sometimes. The rooms are really big (relative to Nathan) and it's hard to see what's going on when you're jumping around. Gets pretty confusing during boss fights.
