i remember when i first got there i was like seriously??? this is just like sanc fortress

I still don't see any similarity beyond the fact that there are places you can fall from.  Skytown is bright and airy with a steampunk feel, sanctuary fortress is dark and foreboding and feels like a scene from tron.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Sanc was pretty bright in the lightworld as I recall. And full of senseless pitfalls and robot nonsense. Comparison checks out imo.

Skytown just added the lovely super compressed level design that made the map indecipherable along with the new Steampunk Brown finish. The pirate lab part was pretty alright though, I think. Even if the metroids in that game were trash.
I forgot to say this in my earlier posts

Enemies shouldn't snap out of lock-on with such ease

IIRC I always played with the auto-lock on turned off. Makes more sense in a motion controlled shooter to have as few restrictions on your aim as possible imo.

I still don't see it.  Skytown is organic in shapes and colors, sanc is full of right angles, black, steel, and neon.  They look nothing alike, and feel nothing alike.  What are you smoking?  The music is opposite as well.

It's like the difference between versailles and yoko ono's apartment.

ryu, I play with free aim. But you can still lock on to enemies, and they snap out of it pretty easily (sometimes you HAVE to lock on in order to grapple for example, and they just forget I'm there).

Definitely understand the Corruption criticism. I guess a lot of the game is like that, lots of "solve this problem" objectives that don't reward you with new items. But overall I'm having a great time. This game just feels great to play IMO.

I like how each main planet in Corruption has its own themes, and how they translate those themes into gameplay. Bryyo is a very 'elemental' planet, so naturally there is a lot of fire/ice interaction with the Ice Missiles and later Plasma Beam. Elysia is supposed to evoke a feeling of being in a grandiose, mechanical place, so you get all the ziplines, Plasma welding and cannons that cross huge distances. And Pirate Homeworld is all about infiltration, full of tunnels everywhere and a little bit of stealth. Even Phaaze has its own unique elements later.

Did my first Bryyo sequence break ever last night: bomb space jump to skip the satellite fights in the Thorn Jungle area. The trick is very easy, but for some reason the game still made me destroy both satellites. I was under the impression that skipping right to the second fight would make the game think both fights were done. Oh well. At least the AI gets confused and those rocket pirates don't seem to even notice I'm there.

Their both fortresses up in the sky, filled with robots. I guess Sanc Fort may not be a floating place, but it's still pretty high up.

Omg. Sorry. Guess it shows I haven't played the game in ages

basically this. "city in the sky". for a metroid game, that's a HUGE similarity given that all other levels are on a planet surfaces

wow you're right, the lock-in is really annoying too, man i forgot about that

SkyTown and Pirate Homeworld are done.

Skipped Hazard Shield aka the easiest sequence break in the trilogy. I wish the testing for other items was as sloppy as this one, haha.

Omega Ridley is great, I just wish he wouldn't fly as much as he does. I love how you can cancel almost all his attacks by shooting his mouth (Meta Ridley is like that too I guess). Very rewarding fight. I also destroyed Gandrayda with Screw Attack, always feels good. Helios was kinda dull.

Only Valhalla and Phaaze left. I like leaving Valhalla for the last moment 'cause it's such a moody place, and it gives me an excuse to do a big final session with two areas (and maybe some backtracking for Energy Tanks).
Valhalla is the only thing I really like about Corruption

It's absolutely where Corruption feels the most like a Metroid game.

And the Phazon crisis is over! Finished Corruption in 6 hours.

Final bosses, Jeez. Big spike compared to everything else before (I am rusty, though). I understand why people find the (real) final boss disappointing considering how epic the other final bosses were in Prime 1 and 2. But I do enjoy the fight. It has the right amount of strategy and danger IMO. Dark Samus is the only part that I dislike because it's just chaos. Between turning X-Ray on/off, keeping track of all the clones and mashing the button before she (it?) heals, I'm always about to lose my mind. And they don't even heal you after it. No idea how I beat this on Hypermode, and those extra 3-4 E-Tanks I grabbed sure made a difference today.

Items skipped: Hazard Shield, 2 Energy Cells. I was watching a video on the Spider skip and I'm tempted to try it next time... maybe.

Other M next! *thunder*

To be fair, I remember a lot of disappointment in the air for Prime's final boss, even at the time. Oh, more shockwave attacks? Good thing that hasn't been overused so far!

really? i thought that was a great fight, how you had to use basically all your weapons and gear

Prime phase 1 was always well liked I think but phase 2 is more of a let down.
phase 1 also has the best music in the game, imo

^ I can agree with that. Maybe not the absolute best but one of the best for sure.

I love the exo Prime fight but not so much the final form. Especially when I get there without Thermal... >_>

Played 20 minutes of Metroid: The Baby. Paused when you (are authorized to) enter Sector 1. I pretty much can't play this game during the day because the glare in my room is insane. It's funny 'cause in Corruption I can usually aim at any time but Other M's first person view just spazzes out.

The cheese in this game walks the thin line between hilarious and cringy. I love making fun of the story but at the same time I just don't want to see any of it, haha. Wasn't there a project by someone who wanted to mute the narration and leave only the dialogue? The cutscenes do look pretty at least. That Zero Suit Samus... Team Ninja knows their boobs.

20 minutes isn't enough to do much but I still enjoy playing this game. Don't get me wrong, every complaint I've read about Other M makes perfect sense. It's just a game that I somehow enjoy in spite of all the trash in it. The gameplay is fast, the combat is flashy and free, and I just like the idea of controlling a 3D model of Samus. The post-game is really good too, but I don't know if I'm gonna stick around for 100% this time.

If I were to compliment Other M, it would be to say that Samus's movement looks and feels great. If it had analog control it would probably be really fun just to move her around. Ah, what could have been.

oh yeah, the parts (few and far between) where you're running around shooting stuff, platforming and getting collectibles are actually pretty fun in that game. they're the only part that's fun though lol
Dood Trigger™
Yeah, there's no reason they couldn't at least give you the option to play with the Nunchuk. So many backwards decisions in this.

I finally figured out why I don't like Yoshis Woolly World.  It's too fucking hard.  I'm at the end of world 5 now.  I've only achieved a perfect score on 3 of the 39 levels I've completed, and many of the later levels have a very low score despite my most careful searching.  The level design is really complicated.  Well done nintendo.  It appears the phrase 'be careful what you wish for' applies here.  Don't let the cute style fool you, this game is serious.

So played Prime last night for the first time in a long time.  I played the eshop trilogy version and noticed a strange difference.  In the disc trilogy version, you have the option of pressing 1 after you scan something in order to access the logbook.  Not so on this digital version.  Why?  Or am I crazy?  EDIT:  I'm crazy.
Dood Trigger™
Probably the first time I hear Woolly World is hard. I thought the consensus was that the game is insultingly easy. I guess just beating the game and going 100% must be two different beasts.

Near the end of Other Cheese (Nightmare encounters). This game is shorter than I remember.

Man, the story gets worse every time. Samus makes zero sense in this game.

Still having an okay time, though. I did practically the whole thing in one sitting, which to me is always a good sign about the pacing. Really wish they didn't restrict exploration so much. There are moments in Other M where you almost feel that Metroid-y desire to go back and grab a few items, but they literally lock the doors to previous areas and you can't go anywhere but straight ahead. Even Fusion didn't do that, I believe.

I also think the game would have been better (even with all its problems) if it had some optional upgrades. Things like Diffusion Beam, Seeker Missiles and Screw Attack could easily be optional, and they can definitely be useful in combat so it would be great to go out and hunt those on our own. I do like the Accel Charge, but maybe it would have been better as just one item that cuts charge speed by 70% or something instead of a bunch of mini upgrades.

I like that new feature where if you defeat all enemies in a room, item dots are revealed on the map. I think it's good incentive to stick around and clear the room. Too bad 50% of the time you won't have the upgrade required for that item and the game will lock you out of it until hours later.

I'll finish tonight. I'm thinking about playing Super Metroid right after this, which should be... interesting, haha.

Fallout 4 is everything I hoped and more. I would elaborate, but that would be time spent typing and not playing Fallout 4.

i'll be joining you in a few hours. cannot wait

And it's done! Finished Other M in 5 hours plus change. I'm leaving the post-game stuff for another time. I'm planning to do another 3D Metroid mini-marathon with 100% items in these games. It's been forever since I did 100% in the Prime series. Should be fun and different enough from the any% route.

This is still probably the weakest Metroid (I only say 'probably' because I haven't put much time into Metroid 2... but I wouldn't doubt M2 being better than Space Baby), but still pretty enjoyable IMO. I'm gonna do a quick Super Metroid run tomorrow just to see how crazy the difference must be playing these games one after the Other.

And after that, back to the GameCube for my first Viewtiful Joe playthrough in like 8 years. Henshin a go-go, baby!
