i think those game are great, but not because of their gameplay. i actually enjoy asscreed gameplay unlike what most people claim these days, but the story and especially the settings were what got me hooked. stuff like rogue where it doesn't take place in a new setting doesn't interest me

I like turtles.
I liked Rogue a lot more than even I would have guessed before playing.  Something about how it actually addressed the Assassins often being pretty much just as brutal and arrogant as the Templars, and how one guy was just like "no YOU listen!" and then cut a swath through the whole organization.

Total meta nod to Haytham's popularity and sympathy with the fanbase.
red chamber dream
that does sound neat, i'm sure i'll play rogue someday

right now i'm enjoying having not played an ac games for 2 years ... now i'm actually super looking forward to syndicate
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The mission design just really doesn't hold up when you have a yearly release schedule. The fact that there are like two mission types suddenly becomes very apparent. And at this point the only mission type seems to be just the "follow guy" mission which is the least fun thing in the universe, the whole game is the end of Asscreed 2.
red chamber dream
ughhhh what i don't understand is how the devs think the following missions are fun. like, surely they play their own fucking game??
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Given how Unity ran I'm gonna guess they don't!
red chamber dream
well that's a case of having to meet a deadline, which i at least understand from a dev's point of view
red chamber dream
but purposefully designing missions that are the opposite of fun makes no sense
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I think 3 had the absolute worst follow mission ever, though. It like two dudes who stop and turn around mid conversation ever two fucking feet and right at the end some randos are scripted to come screaming around a little fence and run straight into you dropping the boxes or whatever they might have been carrying because go fuck yourself person playing this game.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Like those dudes are just there to piss you off. On a long mission that is already going to be pissing you off well enough on its own.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Actually thinking about it for a second, I wonder if those missions are just really easy for one team to make without stepping on the toes of the eight thousand other teams they have working on various random bits of game.
red chamber dream
yeah that's gotta be ac's biggest problem ... they really need just one team working on those games, and it should be ubisoft montreal imo
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
AC needs to take two or three years off to really deliver a great game again. They can only change the formula so much when they're forced to use the last game as a foundation due to time constraints.

And I agree that the series is infinitely less interesting without the overarching plot. The ending to 1 was just a stunning moment that seemed to have infinite potential, and I still get chills when Juno talks directly to Desmond at the end of 2. Those moments made it feel like the next one couldn't come fast enough so you could see how much deeper the rabbit hole goes. But now you know it goes nowhere, so who really cares?

That said, Syndicate looks like it has some cool stuff and I adore the setting, so... We'll see.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
To be honest I was too annoyed by every single thing I had to do at the end of Asscred 2 to pay any attention to whatever the ghost lady was saying because I just wanted everyone to stop talking and let me bonk someone on the head without a "no u didn't" cutscene sending me into yet another shitty fight. Then someone spouted some nonsense about solar flares flipping a magnetic field and killing the planet somehow and I just turned the 360 off and went to bed.

Brohood was great though cause it opens with everyone calling Ezio a fucktard and then you ran around Rome crossbowing idiots. Good game.
Despite spending 90 minutes reading the e-manual, I'm overwhelmed and clueless on AC Black Flag.  I have so many questions like:  What is this?  Why can't I interact with that?  Am I supposed to be doing this or that?  Why am I here?  Where am I going?  What does all this shit mean?  Am I supposed to be getting these things on the map?  What are all these things for?  Why are people attacking me for no reason?  Why does the control tutorial for my first battle not apply at all to my later battles?  Why do I go to an object on the map only to find that there's nothing there?  Why are the coordinates on the map always the same even if I change my position?    So far the only fun I've had was controlling the ship.  I think I just need to sit down with my sweetie for an afternoon and ask him all these questions as I'm playing so he can help me understand how the game works.  I'm really lost on all the menus, too.  It's just way too complicated.  I feel like I need to take a two-semester course just to understand the game, and by then it's not even interesting any more.  Maybe I should have started with the first one.

it's an open world game ... you do whatever you want

i would highly recommend starting with acii though. it's a better game anyway

Last of Us was on sale at only $10 on PSN, so I bought it! \o/

Gotta take a little break from games after that Silent Hill stuff, though, which I finished last night with Downpour.

for ps4?

PS3. PS4 is still a little expensive here in the jungle
Quote from Da Dood:
Downpour.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

I replayed that a couple of months back. Got as far as just after the mines, at which point I realized I was wasting my time. Atmosphere-wise the game is sooo bland and the combat is just annoying.
Dood Trigger™
The combat is really, really bad. I like exploring the streets, though. The side quests are fun. But this month I had a better time with Homecoming, which is saying something...

I ought to get Homecoming someday and play it by myself at least once. Last time, and only time, I've played it so far was years ago. In retrospect after having played Downpour it really doesn't seem so bad anymore.

I just think the first three games especially are so much better than the rest. If I had to rank the series now:

God tier - SH1, 2 and 3
Fake god tier - 4
Flawed but interesting tier - Shattered Memories, Homecoming and Downpour
Can't see a thing tier - Origins

I might enjoy Origins better if I can get my hands on the PSP original. The PS2 port is just too dark and buggy (it glitched out on me at the credits when I hadn't saved since the start of the Motel, 'cause I wanted to watch two endings...). Gotta fix my PSP too, that's probably kind of important...
Of the outsources SH games, Origins is the closest to the originals imo. I only played the PS2 version and thought the game was fine.

Man. I'm having more fun watching Super Mario Maker lately than actually playing games I own. Definitely going to buy it.

This game only makes me more angry at Capcom for canning Mega Man Universe. If I could create my own Mega Man levels with this kind of freedom and online sharing I think I would probably go insane.
