It's hard to notice the lack of dungeons in WW because there's so much to do besides the temples.  I find myself super busy between temples getting all the charts and filling in the map.  There's hardly a moment where there isn't a bunch of things to get done.

Couple more NES games done:

Circus Charlie -- Super early Konami title. I used to play this as a kid on some multicart with 40+ games. Pretty simple round based platformer where each stage focuses on one circus event. There are 5 events total (rings of fire, tightrope, rolling balls, springs, trapeze), and as per arcade tradition, they loop endlessly until you die. My goal was to beat the second loop with the increased difficulty.

Rockin' Kats -- What a cool surprise. In this Atlus game, you control a cartoon cat equipped with a novelty punch gun. What sets this game apart from the usual platformer is that depending on where your punch lands, you get a different effect. Punch the ground and you jump higher, punch the wall and you'll get launched in the opposite direction, grab certain surfaces and you can spin and jump out of that spin move. It's really satisfying combining all these moves and getting creative with the movement.

The main stages are mostly quite easy and you can get a ton of lives in the bonus games. The secret level after the credits is where I was forced to experiment and think about the best strategy. Punching walls at an angle to climb faster... timing the spin jump to cover more/less distance... it's just a really cool mechanic. I kinda wish the main stages were on the same level of creativity as the secret one.

Great game. My only real complaint is the music, which sounds a little too boring and generic for how exciting the gameplay is.

Sweet!  Binding of Isaac Rebirth is on WiiU and New 3DS.  (only new 3ds because it uses ZL and ZR buttons)
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
That seems like a dumb reason to restrict the game. They can't map anything to the touch screen? Also, Isaac didn't really seem to require a ton of buttons in the first place, but I only played for like 15 minutes so maybe there's stuff I don't know about.
Club 27 Goals
its not because of buttons, it's because of CPU power
Club 27 Goals
it also suffers from a lot of slow-down apparently int he heavy parts of the game after getting a plethora of power-ups. Not anything to make it unplayable of course, but it does kinda show the 3DS's lack of power

Well yeah, the thing is outclassed by budget smart phones these days.
Honestly, controls are pretty much the only thing keeping phones from killing the dedicated handheld market completely.

To be fair, controls are kind of a huge deal. Most app developers don't even want to design their games for touch controls and just slap on a virtual control stick which NEVER WORKS.

On a semi related note, I used to wonder why there weren't more fps games released for Vita, it seemed like a great platform for them. But then I played Far Cry 4 through remote play and now I get it. Those little nub sticks are beyond shitty for anything precise. FC4 even goes through the trouble of having a custom Vita control scheme that is miles above most remote play control options, and it's still barely playable.
Nothing really beats the precision of mouse and keyboard controls for FPS's. On the other hand, nothing beats the functionality of a console controller for third person action games.
Club 27 Goals
except for third person action games that actually require precision, eg Tera

for Hack'n'slash action games, yeah

Never tried mouse and keyboard for fps.  Wiimote is best thing I've used for fps.
Imagine the Wii's aiming but better. That's mouse aiming in a nutshell.
In other news, bad night in Dota tonight. Lost 3 games in a row for various reasons. feelsbadman.jpg

Randomly found Metal Gear Rising super cheap and sealed, at a supermarket of all places. Just couldn't ignore it. No idea when I'll start playing it but I'm glad I found a physical copy at such low price here.

You should like it Dood. Picture Bayonetta without a dodge button and instead combat focused around the Moon of Mahaa Kalaa. That's basically what you're in for.
Dood Trigger™
Nice. I did play the demo and I enjoyed it a lot, although not having a dodge is something I will have to get used to.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
There is a dodge but you have to unlock it.

I am still not using the first smartphone I got so I haven't played on smartphones. Is there really no one who gets at least virtual NES-like controls right for simple platformer games?

I barely play phone games so my reference pool isn't super huge, but I did play one called Gunman Clive (which has since been ported to 3DS and I believe Vita) that used a vritual NES-style control scheme that came very close to being as responsive as an actual controller. However, it still has the ubiquitous problem of 30% of your screen being taken up by thumbs.

I think a PSP Go-like design would be ideal for a cellphone/handheld hybrid. You'd have a normal touchscreen phone setup from the get-go, but you can turn it on its side, slide out the bottom portion, and have a video game controller setup ready to go.
Just finished WWHD hero mode playthrough.  Am I a sap for crying at the end of a video game?  It's not sad, it's just so cool.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Emotional response to quality work is normal and fine!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Also WW's Ganon fight is rad as fuck.

BoI is not what I expected.  It's lots of fun, though I keep finding so much crap and I have absolutely no idea what it does, if anything.  Things I've found that I can't figure out what purpose they serve include a wiggle worm, a broken remote control, various pills that don't seem to have any noticeable effect, the ability to leave water trails, the ability to leave blood trails, a band aid, a sheep head. Most things I find seem to have an obvious and apparent use, but some things don't seem to have any purpose at all. Also have no idea what black hearts or gray hearts do.
Each play is so different.  It's like a box of chocolates.  I haven't made it past the 4th floor.  Even if I make it all the way there without being hit once, I usually end up losing all my health very quickly in one room, like if there's something in there that I didn't know would hurt me or if I have a terrible weapon that's practically useless against the enemies I'm faced with. I'm thinking that I should be able to use the things I've found but at a loss as to how.  The manual only has control map and story, that's it.  Sometimes it says that something has appeared somewhere, but I look everywhere and can't find what they're referring to.  Some doors are open, some closed, can't figure out what opens/closes them.
The funnest play I had was when they gave me 99 bombs right off the bat.  There was so much stuff revealed by the bombs that I wonder how anyone would ever find it unless they had 99 bombs.
