Ok so I know I'm super late to the party but holy shit Saint's Row 3 is amazing stupid fun.

i really wanna play it, one of the few last gen games i have left to get
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It's almost weird how much fun I've had with it. Like it's pretty basic for the most part but then here I am whacking a dude upside the head with a giant floppy dildo and giggling like an idiot and missile kicking motherfuckers while I Need a Hero is blasting in the background and it's incredible.

Saints Row 3 was like delicious candy. Like a nice chocolate candy, like Reeses or a kitkat bar. You only needed to play it for little bites at a time, and it was super fun, got you wired, you enjoyed it. However, I made the mistake of binging out on Saints Row 3 for like 7 hours straight one day. Just couldn't get back into it after that.
Shit...I was going to play Lords of Shadow, but then I played 15 mins of Guacamelee and it's super fun.  What do I do?  Choices...

Guac is pretty short. You can probably blow through it in a day or two.

Really?  That's stinks.  Oh well, it only cost me 33.3 cents.  I went with LoS first anyways.

Have you ever played a game and thought it was good, but not good enough to finish it, then dusted it off much later to try again and had a totally different opinion about it?  That's how I feel about LoS now.  I just played it for a few hours and it felt totally different this time.  MoF also felt much better this time around.  I like both of them much more this time. The combat feels better now, more natural. The controls are nearly identical despite the fact that the games are so different (2D vs 3D).  Also, the story makes total sense this time.  The first time I played MoF, I was totally confused about the whole Gabriel/Dracula -> Trevor/Alucard - > Simon story sequence, but this time it's as clear as day.  Same with LoS - the premise and story seem clear now.  I was doing opana almost daily the first time I played LoS, but I don't know if that has anything to do with the difference.  Drugs can dull or intensify a gaming experience.

Also, I noticed that pressing both sticks simultaneously is in the Guac controls.  I hope it's not required often.

I don't remember ever clicking both sticks in that game. I may have just forgot though. Or it could be a Super Mega Hyper exclusive thing

I've been playing Witcher 3 nonstop since launch, and by most accounts I'm around 2/3 through. I know everybody says it's huge, but it's so huge you guys. It doesn't even feel like it's dragging on yet either, which is incredible.

Of course, I'm doing everything, so that extends things. Every little side quest, every point of interest... Gotta do it all! It does something kind of odd with the quests; instead of scaling to your level like in Skyrim, all quests have a recommended level to do them at. If you're 6 levels above recommended, you don't get any experience reward from the quest. It prevents you from getting too over leveled, but it also kind of encourages you to do all your quests in order from lowest to highest instead of just doing what you want. I mean, I would do that anyway because I'm OCD like that, but it's kind of weird nonetheless. I like it better than Skyrim though, because I'm traveling all over the world instead of sitting in one spot and clearing out quests in and around a single town before moving on like I usually do.

Do they give you anything as a bonus to completing the quests that are too low? Extra monies or supplies?

I've been playing it at as well but haven't over-leveled content yet, been having waaaay too much real life to do.

You'll get money and items if they're part of the rewards, but nothing extra is added on. You'll still get exp from whatever you kill during the quest though, of course.

So I'm currently starting that big June marathon that I've been doing the last couple years. 30 games to beat in 30 days. I definitely won't have as much time to play this year, so I picked mostly retro games that I can beat in about an hour/during breaks.

The list:
Batman
Castlevania
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
Darkwing Duck
** Double Dragon 2
DuckTales
Mega Man 3
Super C
Tiny Toon Adventures
TMNT3

Aladdin
Donkey Kong Country
** Kirby Super Star
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Magical Quest
Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems
Mega Man 7
Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse

Banjo-Tooie (Superbanjo%)
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Castlevania 64
Contra Rebirth
The Evil Within (speedrun Trophy)
Mario Kart Wii
Mega Man 8
Metroid: Zero Mission
Ninja Gaiden 2 360 (1-weapon run)
** Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

(** are blind games)

I've done Double Dragon 2 blind (pretty fun game, despite control and platforming shenanigans) and Mega Man 8. I think today I'll have time to play one of the longer games. :)

You are a crazy person, Dood.

You should record that if you have the means. YouTube kids would eat that shit up.

Really wish I could record or stream live, haha. My PC sucks :\ But I'm working on it for the near future, hopefully.
Almost happy

I finished it yesterday, Steam tells me it took 52 hours and after the first 10 or so hours I pretty much did nothing except the main quest and the major sidequests (basically all sidequests with major characters/sidequests picked up during main quests), probably skipping way more than half the content in the game and not even touching the card game. Suffice it to say the game is gigantic. And also pretty fantastic.

I don't know if it's just on Super Turbo Championship Edition, but clicking both sticks simultaneously activates something called 'Intenso'.

Yeah that sounds new. So it's probably completely unnecessary.
Playing LoS.  It's a good game, but not a great game.  The flaws are the reason I never finished it the first time.
When the camera pov changes while you're moving, there's no compensation for the directional input.  Like if the camera is on you left and you are running left, then the camera suddenly changes the pov to above you, your character suddenly starts running towards you even though you're still pressing left.  This is extremely annoying and it the reason for the majority of my deaths.  It's so bad in some of the climbing places that you have to plan to press up when you really mean to go right because the pov changes in the worst place possible.  I try to let go of the joystick everytime the pov changes but it changes constantly.
The other major flaw is in combat. There's all these great combos, but the button sequences take 1 second and the enemies are very fast so you usually don't have 1 second to pull them off.  The 'solution' is to time a block to stun them, but the blocking is horrible. You have to press R2 to block, but it only works if you aren't touching the joystick, because if you're touching the joystick then R2 suddenly becomes evade instead of block. This makes it so many block attempts fail because you accidentally evade.  In fast combat, it's not easy to stop moving, not even for a tiny moment, esp when there are multiple enemies. The same button shouldn't be used for block and evade like that.  GoW let you use the right stick for evading and it was perfect.  The camera also screws up combat because you'll be trying to move to the right of an enemy to avoid an attack, then the pov changes and suddenly you're moving straight towards the attack.  You have to lure enemies away from areas where the pov changes, which is bs.

LoS was the first time I played a game and realized that camera angles actually have to be designed. It's not just pointing the camera at a pretty angle, they have to make sense and transition well.

There's one room in the swamp level where you're literally running in a straight line, but the way the angles are set up it looks like you're in a maze. It's pretty dumb. Totally made me appreciate classic Resident Evil and God of War a lot more...

LoS does feel like a giant adventure though, I'd at least recommend beating it once if you can endure that stuff. But I can't tell you those will get any better.

Marathon update:
Day 3 - The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (awesome, awesome underrated game by Konami. Very Japanese-y and adorable)
Day 4 - Rescue Rangers (I just didn't think I'd have a lot of time to play today. Took 30 minutes to beat all levels)
Have you played LoS 2?  Is it improved?

LoS 2 has a free camera, so it's improved in that regard.
Dood Trigger™
I played it and a lot of that stuff is fixed (you can control the camera and the combat is a bit more refined). But it adds other problems like a confusing world layout, questionable traversal (sometimes when you're backtracking you can't walk 2 steps without having to fight a bunch of enemies), and some very unpopular stealth sections.

I liked LoS2 in spite of all that, but I don't know if I'd recommend it to anyone sane, haha.
Mystical Ninja is one of my favorite franchises. Too bad it's deader than Silent Hill :(
Dood Trigger™
I really should play other games in that franchise. :)

Goemon's Great Adventure is maybe my #1 underrated game. Such a great platformer.
Dood Trigger™
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll play it (hopefully) after I beat the first one for the N64.
