tooz unfortunately there's a lot of that in borderlands, but after a while you'll be driving everywhere anyway

of course, you get attacked while driving too ;)

I mean, you could always just ignore it. iirc they shouldn't even pose as a threat to you at that point.
red chamber dream
yeah it's usually not a problem. i don't remember getting annoyed with enemies attacking very often after the first main area
red chamber dream
eventually your weapons become so fun to use that you don't mind :D

Finished DT Remastered in 2:40 with $20 million. What a cool little game. :) Wall of text ahead.

I played on Hard. The levels are pretty simple, and the bosses are clever, but easy to read. Guess where my one game over was...? >_> That volcano escape at the end was just brutal. Even the trademark race with Glomgold was tricky 'cause I kept hitting my head on the ceiling.

Unless the hidden treasure at Transylvania and Himalayas is the heart container, it looks like I missed two big collectables in those levels. Also, I recall seeing gameplay footage of a map. Was that only on easier difficulties or did I miss a button?

I loved the game, but I understand why people felt ripped off, especially if they weren't familiar with the original. This is pure fan service, but as far as the game design goes, they didn't exactly put a ton of effort into creating new things. The maps are mostly a carbon copy of the NES original (even hidden passages), and despite mandatory collectables breathing more life to the levels, they're still super short for a $15 title. I would have gladly paid that price, just saying I totally get why someone wouldn't want to.

Still, amazing game. The graphics are gorgeous, music is fantastic (IMO easily on par with the old OST), cutscenes/dialogue delivered. And there's some replay value ahead with Extreme, high scores and gallery. Devs were pretty smart putting the music unlockables at the end of the gallery. Obviously I'm going to unlock all that crap just to have the music tracks. You win, game... Not now, though! Taking a break, and I'll move on to a new game in a couple days. Which hopefully I'll finish before TEW Keeper DLC.

I'm enjoying Borderlands more than I thought I would. I don't even know why I didn't think I'd be into it, but whatever. I'm definitely gonna get the Handsome Jack Collection when the price drops.

I'm really enjoying the Hunter class. I found a sniper rifle with explosive rounds and everything is dying quite nicely. I've never even considered trying to use a sniper rifle as a primary weapon in any other game, and I wasn't even planning on it here when I picked the Hunter (figured I'd focus on the pistol track), but here we are.

Pillars of Eternity is cool and good and people who like good RPGs should play it. This is my totally unbiased 100% objective video game opinion of the day.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!

I found that it tended to go like that, where you'd have a struggle against some enemies, then you'd get an amazing gun, and the tables would turn, until you move on a few areas, and the gun's not cutting it any more.  Still, it was fun.  I always used the combat rifles, since you got a lot that dropped with a 1.6x zoom, so you could essentially snipe with it anyway, but it also saved your arse in a sudden firefight.
Played more Axiom Verge last night.  This game is amazing.  It seems like I've been playing forever and have found so much hidden weapons, abilities, and power ups but apparently I'm less than 1/3 of the way through it.
The description 'dripping with style' was used by a reviewer and I concur.  The art style is great but the element I love the most is the music and sound effects. I've wished that metroid games had similar audio.  It just works better with a sci-fi alien biomechanical world.  I like to listen to the soundtrack while I'm working.
Almost happy
Just finished it myself. Very impressed with it overall, everything about the world, atmosphere and gameplay is pretty much Classic 2D Metroid. I tend to be very picky with that style of game but there wasn't much I could complain about. There was one instance towards the end where the only way I could find where I was supposed to go was to basically comb through the entire map for unexplored squares which was a bit frustrating, but otherwise the progress felt smooth without being too heavily directed and there were a lot of great powerups that had use throughout the entire game (although despite there being loads of weapons I stuck with one for 80% of the game). I also appreciate how it saves progress (item acquisition and map exploration) even when you die and respawn at an earlier savepoint. Finished it in ~8:07 with 73% items and 93% map exploration according to the post credits stats. Found 14 of I think around 20 weapons.
Do you think you will go for 100%?  What about speed running?  This game feels like it's made for speed running just as much as, say, ZM.

I might try speedrunning it a bit some time, it definitely feels like there's a lot of abilities that are very well suited for speedrunning, as well as the potential for warping back to the last savepoint while keeping all the progress either through death or possibly by "resetting". Don't think I'll go for 100% though. There seems to be some items and secret paths hidden in innocuous walls and similar stuff, I found some of that almost by accident but the last few % (unless going by a guide) would probably be combing every inch of every room which isn't much fun.
I've found some pretty well hidden stuff so far. I haven't gone over each room with a fine tooth comb, but I have been half ass searching each room as I go through it while backtracking.  I might try the drill on half of the floor the first time through, then the other half on the second time through, the third time I'll go through it as a drone, etc. It reminds me of the first time playing ZM.  It's easy for me to forget how hard it was to find some of the secret areas in that game, but I seriously did enjoy searching for them.

Did you try Divinity: Original Sin?

Thinking of trying PE out but just haven't gotten around to it.

Not yet. I went with PE because I am fanboy. :v

i've heard divinity is really good too, but i want to play pillars first. but i have very little time for rpgs that are dozens of hours long so who knows when the fuck i'll find the time for it

Yeah there was a time I would have just played both and not even thought about it. Now it's like ah fuck that would be a horrible decision.

I played Divinity for like... four hours, I think? I was pretty into it, going through everything one night, etc etc. Next day I went to play and couldn't load my save. Pretty sure they fixed this like a year ago, but haven't had the urge to pick it up again.

Borderlands is going to have to step aside for a bit because WITCHER 3 BITCHES!

I haven't started it up yet but I have to say CD Projekt went above and beyond with the package by including a physical soundtrack CD, a game world map, some stickers, and an honest to god paper manual. That shit is usually reserved for collector's edition nonsense, it's nice to see it for no extra charge in the basic package.
I thought that Witcher 3 deal was like $80+ though.

I think that's just if you get the season pass with it for the dlc.

Honestly the physical goodies are the biggest reason why I wanna get the physical edition than the steam version.

Also it was released on my birthday, so that's cool.

Happy birthday nate

Yeah, I didn't get the season pass and only played $60 and got all that nice stuff. Honestly I can't really imagine needing the season pass if the talk of 100+ gameplay hours is even remotely true. Plus there's the 16 free DLC CDP is giving to everyone. So paying for more on top of that seems silly.

But whatever, WB Games is WB Games. Gotta have dat season pass.

Playing a crappy game just 'cause I was curious about it 4 years ago!

Duke Nukem Forever, Chapter 11. I was pleasantly surprised with DmC and Lords of Shadow 2, so I guess three in a row would have been too much to ask... this really is a mediocre game. Wall of text below.

DNF would have felt like old news if it came out right after Duke 64, even worse in this era of FPSs. The design is bland, gameplay is extremely lazy, the "humor" is juvenile, graphics are laughable, and even Duke's trademark interactions just aren't very interesting here. I spent a good 15 minutes on the pinball machine 'cause I wanted the Ego boost, and there's the occasional slightly interesting reaction from Duke when you examine something, but most interactions are just weak. Turn something on/off with no effect, ooooh.

For like 2 minutes, I do sort of like the weird segments like the RC car and the shrunk platforming (Duke's chipmunk'd voice is adorable, I'll give 'em that). And the Hive areas were pretty enjoyable. But a lot of the levels are all about straight up shooting, and there's just not a lot to the gameplay to justify the repetition. You can only carry 2 weapons (which are for the most part very cookie-cutter for this series), the AI is dumb, and the big encounters so far (excluding bosses) were mostly ambush situations. Sometimes the game tries to be cute by presenting you with a '90s physics puzzle, which is usually as clumsy as it is brain dead. But these moments are actually kinda fun.

There's still half a game to see, and judging how I suck at FPSs... I'm sure the later levels are going to be ugly. On the plus side, if there's one, the stages actually go by pretty fast, which is how I'm already halfway through in like 3 hours.
