So Bethesda released The Consequence, second of three The Evil Within DLCs yesterday.
I finished it a few hours ago. It was quite enjoyable. Like The Assignment (the first DLC), this one is kinda restrictive in its design (pretty basic stealth mostly) and lacks strategy compared to Seb's gameplay. But you see and do a lot of memorable things. The tension is there at least, even though the difficulty isn't high.
I thought we would be using a gun more often, but the few moments we got one felt like sweet revenge. I'm also bummed that they seemed to be hyping up a certain light source but you barely get to use it.
Overall, Kidman's DLC chapters are a nice side chunk of the story that complements the main game and feels appropriately different. It might be fun to alternate main game chapters and DLCs (chronologically) for a change of pace, I think. I'll try that one of these days.
And here's hoping the Keeper DLC is worth playing offline...
Xeno. I'm getting into some tougher fights and I'm dying a lot even though the enemies levels are not higher than mine. I was really hoping that I could just keep it simple by doing what I've been doing from the beginning - playing as shulk and sticking to a few basic strategies. That's not working any more. I have so much crap, so many arts etc and I just don't want to LEARN any more shit. I just want to play. I definitely prefer action/adventure over rpg.
I keep dying every time there is a vision with red and white text. I've written down what to do when it's white and when it's red, but not both and I can't find anything telling me how to counter these visions. I've run into them a few times and they seem unpassable. I have tried both the red and white strategy, and neither work, so is this a whole new category?
I never read any strategies online on how to deal with certain visions. As such, I'd recommend not to get hung over fixed strategies you've read on the internet. Personally, I always considered my situation and figured something out by myself on the fly.
That said, I'm pretty sure there can't be red and white text in a single vision. It's always either or, but the red text IS white text with a red outline. Using the Monado skill that protects from talent arts (white text) - Monado Shield - won't do anything in this situation. Red means it's a normal physical skill, so there's some things to consider..... for example:
Who is the target of the attack? Using Monado Speed is likely going to help if the target is only one character, and if the monster is certain not to switch it's target to another character after you've applied monado speed on the current target.
How much damage does the attack deal? If Reyn's the target, just healing him up or telling him to use that move that greatly increases his defense for a while _may_ be enough.
It's possible the attack does area of effect damage (aoe), meaning multiple characters may be hit. Visions don't really tell of you that I think, so once you know it's an aoe attack you should use the monado skill that increases everyone's defense (monado barrier).
The gist: Monado Speed is not a surefire way to survive red-labeled attacks. Monado Shield however is a surefire way of surviving white-labeled skills if the shield is still in effect when the enemy attack hits.
Thanks. The ones I'm talking about are white letters that are outlined in red. I could have sworn that I saw another one where the letters themselves were red, so I didn't consider the white/red to be red.
I should start fixing on story more and leave the quests alone for a while. The places I'm dying in aren't even on the path of the main story. Besides, I'm getting bored. I want to know what happens, though. That's been happening to me for months now. I play half or most of a game and I start getting bored with it, even if I liked it in the beginning.
definitely gotta balance the story and sidequests. it can be easy to get caught up doing quests for hours and hours then realize it's not actually that fun. that's ok though - some people get into that sort of thing which i guess is why they include so many. but there's no reason to do a lot of them if you don't want to.
Lately I've been focusing on them because the rewards. I swear I leveled up like 5-6 times doing the colony 9 quests. They're a better grind than fighting.
I did find a huge spider on the bionis leg. It was extremely powerful so I ran away, but that shit creeped me out! I also have a giant's key that I'm supposed to use on the roof of the swamp fortress, but I can't figure out how to get up there. I can only find two ways to get into a throne room there, where I end up dying. I also have my eye on a locked warehouse door deep in the tephra cave. I want to get inside!
For now forget about the tephra cave warehouse, that's optional endgame content you need to be roughly level 90 for.
Getting to the roof of the swamp fortress is indeed somewhat difficult. I think I always used guides for that part of the game. You say you got two entrances to the throne room, so you found the secret side-entrance? With that you should be able to proceed without having to fight the enemies in there. Chances are I'm mistaken, but I think you need to check the wall behind the throne to proceed to the roof.
Yes I did find the secret side entrance. I wouldn't be surprised if I was unable to see the way to the roof every time I was in the throne room because the textures kind of all run together sometimes in this game. Things can be hard to see.
