just completed new londo. didn't do so yesterday as i was too tired in the end.

you're right, the boss there's a joke. got him on my first attempt and hardly had to try. and i didn't even go out of my way to use one of the heavier armors.

there's only the dlc and giant's tomb (again) left now it seems
Dood Trigger™
Vs. the tomb boss, you can trade hits just as easily. How to make the fight even easier:
When you drop to the boss arena, don't run to the far back or you'll trigger giant skeletons. Instead, wait for Nito to come closer and fight him where you first land (or nearby).

DLC is great :) Have fun!
yeah, just got up to the
artorias
boss fight. i got wrecked since i was rather low on estus flask charges.

i really like the setting of the area so far, feels much more atmospheric and threatening than the darkroot garden wich i thought was rather bland.

what i don't like is how large and relatively open it is, but i think i've managed to explore the whole area up to the first elevator

and i finally upgraded my zweihander to enchanted+5, the thing's a beast!

now i wish i'd get how exactly stat scaling in this game worked. the thing receives a larger dmg boost by leveling int than the moonlight greatsword does, even though it has a lower int scaling rank.

it also says when switching weapons that the zwei has 183 less physical scaling than the moonlight greatsword, which doesn't make any sense since the moonlight greatsword has 0 physical dmg to begin with
beat
artorias and the dragon

i'd say they were the only legitimately difficult bosses in the game so far
Club 27 Goals
so are you guys pumped for Dark Souls II?

Becayse I'm fucking HYPED.

I'm going to play it on PC though, so pretty much I'm just going to stay off the internet until then because I want a completely virgin playthrough. I want everything to be a surprise. I really hate how much I spoiled Dark Souls for myself, and how quickly I turned to my friend for advice in Demon Souls.
i'm not really hyped, but i'll be preordering soon. no point for me to get the pc version as i no longer have a pc powerful enough to play games on.
looks like i accidentally triggered a bad end trying to leave the final area to get a weapon from the final boss' soul forged lol

XD

Congrats on beating the game!

And yeah, I'm super hyped for DkS2. I probably won't have the game for like another 10 days though.

thanks \o/

manus is pretty tough. i probably wouldn't have beaten him in just a few tries without the npc phantom summon the game provided. it kind of sucked for me that all three dlc bosses had high magic resistance, since my character relied a lot on magic for physical attacks as well. my sword strikes were pretty much useless against these bosses and i had to gimp around wielding my staff...

the actual final boss really surprised me, since i expected the battle similar to that of DeS. i eventually made the mistake of having sumoned an npc phantom though, which completely removed all challenge for the fight on my final attempt.

so i don't think i enjoyed dark souls any more than i enjoyed DeS. the wider variety of equipment is pretty nice, but didn't add all that much to my DaS experience since i just ended up using the same stuff for like 90% of the game anyways. along with the numerous options for weapon upgrades and the newly introduced pyromancy it does a good job adding replay value to the game though. i think i'll actually try replaying with a melee pyromancer next, although i'll probably not even get far into a second playthrough with DaS II on the horizon.

now it just would have been nice if the game had bothered to properly tell its lore.

i'll probably spend some time with ng+ as well, put some points into str and play around with dark magic
Dood Trigger™
Manus is tough, but a lot of fun. You can absorb his magic if you have the Silver Pendant, which does help a bit considering how bad that guy hits.

About the DLC bosses having high magic res, I think that's part of the challenge since the devs are well aware that people can cheese bosses with spells, haha. Pretty sure they also made them relentless to encourage people to dodge/roll instead of tanking.

I'll try my best to avoid the internet this week... at least the forums that talk about Dark Souls 2 a lot. I'm going in almost completely blind... 'almost' because I did play the beta network test back in november. I liked what I saw. The beta kicked my ass even with 500+ hours of previous Souls played.
i was thinking the same about the high magic res of those bosses. just too bad that also gimps characters that rely on magic for melee damage.

i watched the agdq2013 run of dark souls yesterday. watching it made me feel dumb about how i hadn't ever thought of using humanity for restoring health in combat. that would have made those dlc bosses a lot easier for me, especially since the game just throws humanity at you right before the fight with manus.

right now i'm doing the pyromancer run and it seems i'll end up finishing both this and the ng+ run before i'll get my hands on DaS II. with the pyromancer i'm only 5 hours ours into the game and have almost finished the entire first half of the game lol
i'm also hooked. if i had the time i'd probably be finishing this in one sitting.

sounds promising, but i bet the actual game will be much easier. making the beta super hard almost sounds like a marketing setup to target veteran players
got the gravelord sword on my second character. the titanite demon down in the catacombs was a real pain without any OP dmg potential :/
Dood Trigger™
Remember that the Catacombs are a late game area, so that Titanite Demon is really buffed. I come back to kill him when I have to actually beat the Catacombs later. I just run behind him, grab Eye of Death and enter the coffin. If I die it's no big deal 'cause getting there is so easy with the shortcut drop.

You can find enough Demon Titanite to OP your sword with the other early game demons + Anor Londo chests.
Dood Trigger™
Okay, it's official: Dark Souls 2 will be here on the 14th!

WOOT! \o/ 3 days... 3 days... now to play something else to pass the time!

well i did come fairly late i think. blighttown's the only place left for me to go before sen's fortress.

i'm gonna remember this for my next playthrough lol. the catacombs are kind of a pain and not even atmospheric enough to be a fun challenge.

looks like you got lucky with the release date, nice! 14th is the release date in europe as well, i don't think it's that bad compared to the us release
Dood Trigger™
From that platform where he lands on the video, you can also drop to the lowest level where Pinwheel is, essentially getting through the Catacombs in like... 15 seconds? These shortcuts are great stuff.
yeah, that shortcut is great as well. found and used it on my previous playthrough
i saved rhea in the tomb of giants and made it back out alive! that was a rough detour lol
uh, you need to do this stuff before killing the gaping dragon, otherwise lautrec won't give you his tip

i just wanted to complete this quest the proper way... oh well.
Dood Trigger™
I've never done a couple of the character quests... pretty sure I've never saved Solaire or Siegmeyer all the way to the end.
all of these quests pretty much suck without a guide though
i take back what i said about completing 2 additional playthroughs until DaS II arrives. at this rate i'll be lucky to get to complete the pyromancer run : / just entered anor londo
Dood Trigger™
Have you been upgrading the glove?
Dood Trigger™
This doesn't make the waiting any more fun! Hah...
