My NG+ progress: 3 out of 4 major souls. For the most part, it's not that big of a jump in difficulty. I even used a Bonfire Ascetic to fight
The Rotten
a couple more times while keeping Lucatiel alive. His attacks were OHKO'ing me by "Fake NG+++", but the pattern and AI were the same as usual. And that goes for almost all bosses that I fought so far. The only exception is...
The Lost Sinner. Jesus. As if the fight isn't brutal enough, they decided it would be a fun idea to spawn TWO pyromancer Black Phantoms in the middle of the fight. I focused on the Sinner and ignored the pyros. Pretty sure I just got lucky at the end because it's damn hard to keep track of 3 aggressive enemies in one fight. It's hard enough to hit the Sinner when she's alone!
Other highlights:
I killed The Pursuer before the official fight. Nothing special happens, you just get the reward earlier, and you don't have to fight him later. I also landed the most ridiculously satisfying plunging attack vs. one of the Ruin Sentinels. Half HP gone in one hit!

oh man. did you attack one of them and take a look at their health bar? i bet they take forever to kill like most phantoms. sounds tough.

i tried that as well, but got killed when he used his multi homing spell. he probably only uses that when he gets to curse you i think.
I attacked one of them 'cause I figured I could kill them in 2 hits... not the case. :\ With Great Club 2-hand R2, which is a pretty damn powerful attack, it took me 7-8 hits to kill one after the boss was dead. So I was forced to focus on the boss.
Really? I would have guessed people would be crushing NG+s at this point.
I need 30 Sunlight Medals for the Sunbro covenant ranking up. Even though my internet sucks, I'm considering going online for this one 'cause the drop rate for these items offline is like 1%.
Well, I ended up farming all 30 offline. Took me a couple hours and a LOT of ascetics burned. I think the Betwixt bonfire is at +9 or 10 now. Seems that like DeS and DkS1, the difficulty caps at +7 or so. At least I've been dealing the same damage to these enemies for a while.
Shrine of Amana in NG+. I didn't explore much, had to take a break. If this place is annoying in NG, I better be prepared and not as tired as I am right now for its NG+ upgrade.
Still, I'm surprised at how easy the NG+ bosses have been in general. There are exceptions like a certain Great Soul sword duel, but overall, I can even sort of tank them sometimes.
I can also confirm that it's possible to inherit
Benhart's equipment + achievement by killing only one boss 3 times with ascetics. I feel terrible for the players who didn't know about this and had to protect him vs. the final bosses.
This Platinum might be the most satisfying of the 3 IMO. I got lucky with Pure Bladestone and other rare items in DeS, but even with Sunlight Medal shenanigans, DkS2 is the least grindy of the three. Don't need all upgrade paths, don't need unique weapons, and more importantly, don't need all rings. How fun would that be, beating the game with no deaths AND with no bonfires for those two rings?
People are trying to incorporate Bonfire Ascetics into the any% route to kill only one boss over and over and enter
Shrine of Winter early (with 1 million Soul Memory).
This stuff is so much fun. :) I absolutely love how open this game is.
I got all the achievements in the game and beat NG++. The jump in difficulty really isn't that bad, but NG+ is still interesting for the new enemies and loot. Will probably take a break from Souls now, though I'm already itching to start a fresh character and see how powerful I can get before fighting any bosses.
By the way, about Lost Sinner,
it seems that if you light her room she gets slower. That would be SO helpful.
i'll get back to the game once they've patched the hell out of it and maybe added some cool dlc. apparently there's an upcoming patch that's supposed to sort of fix how long the menu takes to appear and stuff
about your spoilers
i know about that thing with the shrine of winter, but i don't see how beating 1 boss over and over can be much faster than rushing through the way game like you'd do normally. is the NG+(+++ etc) increase in soul drops that high?
i read about lighting the lost sinner's room before. can't believe i missed that!
Yeah, they made the calculations for souls already. Running to the lava boss is really fast after you kill him (I suspect Rotten is even faster, but maybe the soul count isn't that high?). It's just a matter of getting a good run now.
I read about that patch! Hopefully it'll make the loading less obnoxious.
