nice! i was super lucky with the way i spent mine, since the npc i only wanted to stop blocking my way to a bonfire turned out to be
a merchant trading weapons for boss souls
Dood Trigger™
Yeah, I saved that guy too with my recent item! I bought all the sorceries 'cause I know I'll want to check them out in the future.

I'm keeping track of a bunch of big doors that are closed. I'll figure out how to open them tomorrow. For now, I'll explore some old areas and call it a night.

i haven't attuned a single spell yet lol

instead i'm now rocking things with the pursuer's ultra greatsword. with 293 base damage at +2 i'm finally really doshing out some real damage!
Dood Trigger™
I was thinking about trading for that weapon but my Great Club+10 has almost 500 base. That ultra is probably more powerful fully upgraded, but I don't think I have the stones. Good to know it's reliable!

Played for a short time this morning... I didn't do any major progress, but I solved 2 things that were bugging me: the bonfire at lower Brightstone (SO EASY, I hate myself), and an item high up in early Bastille. I'm still not sure I reached it the right way (with a series of jumps and tricky falls), but at least I got it.

Tonight will be a very long session, I hope I can make some real progress.

but I don't think I have the stones

lol yeah, i don't either. i'm still stuck at +2. maybe it's possible to trade multiple smooth & silky stones for the upgrade items...? i doubt it, but i'll try later.

the damage it does is, yeah, but it doesn't seem as good as ultra greatswords were in the previous two games. :/ it hardly stuns enemies and the range doesn't seem up to par either.

boss progress:
the last giant
dragonrider
old dragonslayer
royal rat vanguard
the pursuer
ruin sentinels
belfry gargoyles
flexile sentry
skeleton lords
covetous demon
scorpioness najka
the lost sinner

it seems you haven't found some places that i've been to. i'm just gonna drop a hint here, since this stuff is pretty esay to miss
after you talked to the woman in heide's tower of flame, warp to the bonfire in majula and physically backtrack to heide's tower
Dood Trigger™
That's a great hint. I feel like I've exhausted all my options at this point. Also thanks for not spoiling anything huge. :)

By the way, the Crestfallen dude at Majula actually describes all the places you can visit as soon as you arrive there. Just talk to him enough times and he'll describe the places we were talking about earlier! Pretty cool detail.
hmm doesn't he only talk about the areas you can access at the beginning from majula? at least that's what my impression has been so far. i'll try talking to him some more!
Dood Trigger™
Yeah, that was poor wording on my part. That's what I meant, because we were talking about that earlier.
he's the beginner's guide after all
so i just had to check the gamefaqs boards to figure out how illusory walls in this game work:
you have to press x in front of them, even though there is no prompt to do so. AND if there's a message telling you of the illusory wall - pressing x will only trigger the message and never open the door!
Dood Trigger™
About the contraption secret path:
I had already talked to the woman, and I also backtracked to Heide via normal path while searching for clues... maybe I just never backtracked after exhausting her dialogue? Weird. It's no big deal, though.

Finally, the beta areas! I'm pretty familiar with this place so it was no big deal. I'm also very OP for this part.

Bosses defeated:
1. Dragonrider
2. The Last Giant
3. The Pursuer
4. Old Dragonslayer (LOL)
5. Flexile Sentry

12. Magus + Congregation
13. Duke's Dear Freja
14. The Rotten
15. Skeleton Lords
16. Executioner's Chariot
Dood Trigger™
Covetous the Hutt... LOL
...huh?

the part you're in right now(?) is one of my favorites in the game along with
huntsman's corps
Dood Trigger™
I dunno, I just thought Covetous Demon looks way too much like Jabba the Hutt.

And yeah, that part was awesome. I think I still have some to do, though. Also I never explored
those poisonous holes there.

ohhh.. yeah i was thinking that as well lol (i already remember the character as jabba though)

you should eventually go back and explore the area fully

Quote:
Killed the Black Gulch boss. That was the easiest boss in the game for me so far.

you didn't melee him, did you? i beat him on my first proper try, but wouldn't call him easy still :/
Dood Trigger™
I'm playing melee only, so I had to. :\ Maybe he didn't use his stronger moves on me that often. I was also dealing a LOT of damage with 2-hand Great Club R2. I think it only took 6 hits to kill him.
Dood Trigger™
18th boss killed. First try! Okay, this next area
looks too much like Bowser's Castle, haha. It must be where the last primal bonfire is. I'll continue tomorrow 'cause the place looks enormous.

Bosses defeated:
1. Dragonrider
2. The Last Giant
3. The Pursuer
4. Old Dragonslayer (LOL)

13. Duke's Dear Freja
14. The Rotten
15. Skeleton Lords
16. Executioner's Chariot
17. Covetous Demon
18. Mytha, the Baneful Queen
Finally managed to beat the Flamelurker in DeS, so I moved on to 3-1. This place looks like something out of a survival horror game if you take away the silly looking Eldritch abominations guarding the place. I got killed by that huge freaking arrow trap in the later part of the area. I thought I could tank it with my shield but nope! One hit wiped my stamina and the second one shot me. aiwebs_009
i think you're only supposed to get an item at the very edge of where it shoots the arrows.

you can skip a lot of the stage by rolling through the arrows, but i wouldn't recommend doing that on a first playthrough.
Dood Trigger™
Oh man, the
Iron Keep was SO good. It's like exploring a hardcore dark version of Bowser's Castle. Oh, you want the mid-level bonfire? Go ahead and kill this freaking optional boss then!
Insta favorite stuff there. I gotta go back there later and explore the parts I haven't seen.

Pretty sure I'm at the end game now. But I don't want to finish yet. Tonight I'll do some exploration, maybe farm souls to buy stuff from vendors for NG+.

Bosses defeated:
1. Dragonrider

heh, yeah that stage seems rpetty awesome. i only explored the first few areas, got stuff like
the iron key and that ember
and decided to leave that part for later.

did you get those two treasures in the first area of that place? that's some sadistisc stuff!
i tried getting the one where you need to jump across fiery platforms for a while, but always died mid-air after i jumped off the first burning plat. i just hope leveling vigor will actually help with that lol
Dood Trigger™
I died once trying to get that item and figured I'd need that fiery ring from the first Dark Souls! Or something similar.

Now I'm exploring the final dungeon, and it is fantastic. I want to play until right before the final boss just to see what I can find in this place.
so you haven't found such a ring yet either? i only found a ring that increases fire prot, but it doesn't seem to help at all lol

good luck not accidentally triggering some point of no return, if there is one that is
Dood Trigger™
Thankfully, there is no point of no return. I looked it up just in case. After the credits, you warp back to Majula and you can explore the land. Then the option for NG+ will appear on the bonfire. Great stuff. But I've reached a point where I should probably stop for now and go back to old places.

I only have that ring that increases fire protection. And there are so many items on the lava! O_O There has to be a trick.
i think you need 99999999 points in adaptability to gain more iframes from rolling than there are rolling frames!
