Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Quote from arkarian:
ok, now i'm not sure what you mean again lol. the forum index does not update live, so if you open the forum index

What I mean is I'm not keeping the page loaded.  I load Firefox, click on my m2k2 link, which brings me to the index.  If I've been away for an extended (as in a couple of hours, or overnight) period there will usually be marker icons indicating new posts, as well as the 'unread' displaying the number.  However, if I then close Firefox, load it again half an hour later, click on my m2k2 link, and once again reach the index, the 'unread' will (almost) instantly show the number of unread posts, but there will be no icons reflecting this - they're all just grey still.

I understand what you're saying about the 'unread' part updating live, but that would only apply if you kept the page loaded, which I'm not doing - I'm not even keeping Firefox loaded! =D

I think it auto-updates once you open the page again in Firefox, but perhaps Firefox is caching the page in the past half-hour so that the icons are still grey?

If I've been reading it right, it fixes itself if you refresh, right? It's only if you're gone for less than x hours that the icons don't update? I think Firefox likes to try to remember everything.

A problem I've noticed recently, but cannot be quite convinced is taiga's fault: These past couple days I've been avoiding the forum because of the fast-paced chat like nature of the forum. It could just be me, though.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I haven't noticed any particularly fast chat-like pace of conversation, but I'm not here in the morning so maybe I'm missing it.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

I've also noticed that posting time seems completely arbitrary.  Sometimes my posts appear within about 2-3 secondes, and other times, I can sit for an age, and end up manually refreshing.

EDIT: Another idea: The 'Viewing' and 'Online' lists would probably be better in alphabetical order.  It's not so bad at the moment, with relatively few people active at any one time, but if you had a greater number of users online, the list would seem completely random.  Perhaps keep the mods and admins at the top.

quietus: that sounds like a caching problem. nate'll have to take a look at that.

i wholly agree. i also agree that mods/admins should be at the top, just like irc.

Not impossible
just highly unlikely
This forum definately isn't active enough yet to have a real live-chat feel. It might happen over the weekend briefly in certian topics, but overall I don't think this really dramatically changes the forum dynamic.

When Other M comes out it may be a different story.

EDIT: Auto scrolldown doesn't seem to be working in wiiopera.

does it work during normal use eg when a new post comes in?
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Don't think so. In fact, it seems to really fight to stay in the middle no matter what's going on.

sounds like a javascript problem then ... not sure if there's anything we can do to fix that.

Yo all. First time poster here. Been noticing a lack of links which you can download the patches of Super Metroid hacks. This wasn't an issue before this was apparently taken over by Taiga overnight.. anyway, been wanting to DL Pantheon, but there's nary a link for me to DL in the Pantheon topic (believe me, I've scoured through the whole thread). Can you fix this ASAP so I can get my ROM hack fix? Thanks.

Thanks, Gamma. Must've been fixed while I was making this post. That or the color scheme hid it so well. Either way, thanks.

Is there going to be a separate icon for new posts in a sub-board or are you just leaving it until we get samus icons back?

EDIT: Stiles, you can find the .IPS file at the bottom of the first post in this thread.

Stiles{00A0 is in the topic. Good ol' space bugs.

Also I'm guessing unless they decide to hire a theme design artist, they're probably going to hold off on cosmetic updates for some time, but I'm guessing it's definitely on the (really long) list.

this is just a conspiracy to make sure fork's name is always first in the userlist.
just pushed out a new version. changes:

- users viewing and users online sorted first by group, then by username
- spaces in usernames showing up as "{00A0}" in the userlist fixed
- no more bizarre colors in the userlist when loading a user profile

Just curious, but what's up with Acheron and Ryu in the list?  I thought they were moderators of certain boards, but their profiles list their 'User Group' as 'User', like the rest of the minions.  If they are still the mods of one board each, shouldn't Acheron be first?

I'm sure they're just being classed as different things, but it just looks out of place.
good catch ... it's because their individual mod groups are in that order. i'll fix that asap.

there will be eventually. wasn't high enough priority to include in the first public release.

pretty much. ;)

Hey, can you guys make it so a user's current location on the forum shows up in their profile? Would be handy, methinks.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Still having issues with the length of time it takes to refresh a post.  Seems completely random.  Some that I've made recently have appeared within 2-3 seconds, and then earlier today, I posted, took a phone call, which the phone displayed as over seven minutes, and my post still hadn't appeared, so I had to manually refresh again.

Could possibly be the time of day. Had the forum been very busy at the time?

I never had the problem Quietus described. Maybe it's your isp making you lose connection every now and then?

It happens both at home, and at work, and at any time, so I'm fairly sure that's not it.

Also, seven minutes seems excessive, even if they forum was waaay busy.
Merry Christmas

Just noticed that it appears that everything under the 'unread posts' section shows as zero replies, despite there obviously being some.

That's weird. When I loaded this page, it loaded the top first. Then it went to your post, and 5 seconds later it went to the second post of this page (Quietus one), without touching anything! And it decides to stay there (without touching anything). Looks like my wiiopera likes Quietus' post Laughing
