awright, haven't been here in awhile, but i'm back with a demo for my unamed super hack!
let me tell you some things about it:

halfly, it's for a headered rom
first, this is an early demo that i wiped up, so alot will change.
second, i don't have a name for it, so if you have an idea, go ahead and say it.
third, i'm trying to use tile sets that aren't used alot, specifically the one for the statues room.

download and tell me what i should change, and what's good. samus'  suit color and the ship's color WILL change, i was just messing around and was to lazy to change it. =P
i'm open to ideas, so please tell me them!(nicely >=])

oh, and thanks to insom who did some asm(that's not in the demo).

edit: forgot to mention, but the intro and space station isn't in the demo only because it's under construction atm. but it WILL be in the game, and i'll have a new intro story, so it won't be boring.

This patch is for a headered ROM. Generally a good idea to mention that. ;)

My first impressions are pretty good. You've really changed things up. Personally, I think Red Zebes could use a palette change, as it's a bit too... red. That's up to you, just my opinion. There's obviously some bug-busting and graphical errors you'll want to work on later, but I didn't find anything game-breaking. The part with the turtles and the spikes was pretty cruel, though, since you don't have any E-tanks at that point (although I guess I might've missed one, I'd only found morph, bombs, and a missle pack).

I'm impressed. Take your time on this and don't rush--you've got a good hack here.
The green portions of Crateria seem somewhat plain, but I guess not much can be helped there since that tileset doesn't have many options. I like the fact that the bluemetal and darkblack version of red brinstar will get some use - I'd wanted to do something with it but it never really fit into any ideas I got for areas, so I never ended up using them. One thing though: right now Crateria feels like sort of a mishmash of different random tilesets so you might want to focus more around a common theme for each area. Other than that I didn't find too many problems beyond the occasional random tile/map error that can be easily fixed up later. What I can see of redcrateria looks somewhat nice as far as tiling, especially the rightmost portion of the ship room that's only accessable once you get the morph ball.

And speaking of red crateria, that brings up an old issue. I always wondered why they stuck that palette in there and never used it. Perhaps one of the most awesome palettes in the game. I assume they were planning on using it during the escape and then making it flash oddly from there but ended up putting all that into an FX2. If it was going to be used for anything else, I'd be weeping in agony that they never got the chance to do it.

But anyway, a random silly potential name that kept echoing through my brain while playing it was Super Metroid: Bizarre Tilesets Edition

Oh and btw, scrolling sky error got ya (although I assume this is just because one of your later roomstates for the landing site room still has the sky in it and you'll remove it later and throw in the cave bg):

this looks really ambitious  :-D but as acheron mentioned the graphical glitches are pretty nasty and will have a tendncy to put players of but the tilesets were used is awsome but their is a few tiling errors in the room with the two claws tho but still this looks good Very Happy

BT, i forgot about the other states, thought i had the ssbg bug fixed, but it continues to ruin my life. =/
yeah, there are alot of graphical problems, but i'm concentrating on level design right now.
and thanks Acheron86, i made sure it was headered JUST so i could say that, but i forgot. ](*,)
i might try and fix all the graphical problems before i move on to the next area (which is probably brinstar, though i might go some where else, or replace brinstar with somewhere else aiwebs_008).
oh, what'd you guys think of trozo? i wanted to do something different for him,
so i made him invincible Twisted Evil

but i might change that, like, you can't get to MB without beating him, so you have to come back with the plasma or something.

Well, if I believe there's supposed to be colors in different areas, I suggest calling it Super Metroid: Full Colors or something like that. I may know it sounds peachy, but meh.

You should probably wait until your further into making the hack to name it if you can't think of anything.  You'll want something that goes well with it, or has multipe meanings!  Names are important, and a bad one might push people away, while a great one will lure them in!

Oh, and good job so far!  I'm liking the branching idea you've got going on there!

progress is a little slow... hope I can really get alot done this summer, but with all the stuff going on then....  aiwebs_016
It's also going slow because I've come to the first really big room.(besides the ship room, but i think this one's bigger.) it's the west entrance to the wrecked ship, and it's taking forever, especially since i want to have a scrolling sky background, but it messes up when i enter.

This is true. I just got lucky with my names.

A possible name for yours could be Super Metroid: Roots.

Correlates with the whole branching thing, and is also playing on the fact that you use some of the most basic tile sets to great effect.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how that'd all work out since there's not that much of a variety as, say, Norfair's tile set, whish is like three in one. But it's good to know that you like it.  aiwebs_004
