That latest Sunset picture looks incredibly fantastic. The pink overlay seals the deal. It looks great. :P Really looking forward to Super Metroid: Volta. :D More than any other!

The reddish tint is more realistic. It gives the surrounding area that.... glow. Very Happy

I like the other one too. They compliment each other very well.

I have no set date for the project. The earliest I can think of it possibly being done is summer 2009, but I won't restrict myself to that, just in case anything comes up that slows down my progress.

So today I re-did all of my Space Pirates' palettes. The results came out as so:

Go ahead and take guesses as to what each of them is like. The upper-right isn't very clear, may have to re-do his palettes to make more sense.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!

I like most of them. I'd only add that the blue and green ones are perhaps a little bright, whereas the purple one looks a little dark, which means that its colour is close to the red of the eye. Good work, though. :)

Didn't manage to catch you in IRC, and I can't log in from the college, which I'll be at all day today, so here goes (and with smileys!):
Purple/Green: wub

(I wub the Fusion look!)

Black/Red and Black/Teal: :D (Just your average, menacing looking Space Pirate. Perfect!)

Yellow/Teal: :) / :| (I think that it's pretty ok... the yellow could be a bit less bright.)

Blue/Orange: :| (Eh, I just don't like him as much as the others. Just not the greatest mix of colors, there, as least to me on Space Pirates.)

BlueGreen/Magenta: :( (Not exactly [<uNsane> Minty poo], but I just don't like it at all.)

BS: We already went over this :P I had no thoughts of the pirates from Rev. EX. in my head when I paletted the the black pirates.

Zhs2: The yellow one's colors are pretty much the same as the old yellow pirates colors. Also the "Fusion" pirate, I wasn't even thinking of Fusion but now that I look again I guess it is! :D

In general, I do want to mention that the reason each pirate is colored the way they are is because each one is vulnerable to a different weapon and I wanted it to be easy to tell what each one can be harmed by. That's why the green one is so bright; because Plasma Beam is the same color generally.
Also, addressing the brightness comments on them, I've been slowly redoing a lot of palettes in the game and adding saturation. I started with Gaia Heights' palette and it's working its way into the enemies.

Anyways, I also changed around the palette of the green-yellow-gray KiHunter:

I like it much better. Comments on him and more on the pirates appreciated. (Hmm, the darkest value for the wings looks a bit too dark...I think I'll play with that a bit more...)

As nice as blue themed colours for the icons might be, and I wouldn't actually mind that in another hack, I have to say that I see aboslutely nothing wrong with the colours FP is using. I've been following the Volta hack for a while now. I think he has some bloody interesting ideas, and so far he seems to have been managing to execute them fairly well. If he thinks it looks/feels good, I'm totally fine with it as long as it isn't impossible to see and doesn't change the blasted physics.

Good on yer for defending some of your colour decisions, man.

Also, about the Pirates, I think they look fabulous. They clearly indicate what they're weak against, so I see nothing wrong with them. They're not glowing neon signs, nor are the bleached with colours faded to obscurity.

Yes, but it's also worth remembering that these things are usually posted here to get this kind of feedback.

There is absolutely no reason to change them just because people don't like them, but if the suggestion is a good one, then it was worthwhile asking for the feedback.

I think the Ki hunter looks great. :)

I like the colors of that Ki-hunter, even though I DESPISE them as an enemy xd

About the space pirates, they look awesome, but the black/red and black/blue look out of place compared to the rest of the oh-so-shiney family of pirates :o

And about the item selection color, Greyed blue always looks good ;D

I want to apologize if I came off as angry. Yesterday wasn't the greatest. I was stressed about my Calculus test and I kind of took it out on my post. It's just that the item selection colors to me are such a minor thing compared to the rest of the game I was surprised that I was getting as much flack about them as I was (most of this "flack" was in IRC.) and they weren't even the main point of the picture.

Minor other palette changes:

Minor fix on his coloring, made the wings less dark.

Saturated the Kago a little bit more, now it looks more "organic."

I added some color to Cyclonia's background. It felt too desaturated to me before.

But a suggestion on the kagos... maybe changing the red color to something else? Yellow maybe?

I hadn't thought to change the red. I was just trying to brighten the game a bit. I could try playing with the colors though, see if I can come up with anything.

On a side note, I think yellows are the hardest colors to work with. If you make pure yellow darker, it's a nasty yellow-brown-gray-green color. So you have to add a bit of red to prevent that. That makes it start looking orange after a while. Yellow is truly frustrating.

It looks okay, but I feel it could be better. The yellow doesn't quite fit in naturally with the feel of the area... It seems like a poisonous tree frog but nowhere near a rainforest. I like it when enemies blend into their environment, the eyes are good as they match the color of the grass close enough. I'd try matching the color of the body to the color of the dirt, giving a sort of natural camoflauge, and just see if you like that better. If you don't like it, at least you tried it out.
