Time bomb set get out fast!
I've just merged Guardian Garr's "Thanks for making Redesign" topic into this one.  Thus, if you missed that topic, there are several "new" posts on the previous page.
Hey guys, I'm new here.  I've been trying to perform the patch and it still has not worked.  I originally had the german/french version, which actually worked until samus gets hit by a projectile in the cutscene facing mother brain before the game starts.  I then downloaded another german/french file that just crashed zsnes after being patched.

Then I heard that I should download an english japanese file, but this crashed zsnes after being patched.  I have tried patching each of these three files with three different ips patching files, with headered and non-headered files, and attempted to run them with zsnesw1.51, zsnesw1.29, and zsnes9x1.51, and I have had no luck.

Any tips?  Maybe I need to find a better english/japanese file?  I'm running 32 bit vista.  (Maybe someone can just help me out with an already patched file in an email if all else fails..?)
What'd you say?
Try finding this rom:

Super Metroid (JU) !

It's an unchanged japanesse/english rom, also, make sure you have the right patch (headered or unheadered), also, I suggest using the lastest Snes9x emulator, I personally can't stand zsnes.

Also, welcome to the forums.  grin new

Yeah, it sounds like you have a bad dump or something.  First of all, forget the European files, they won't work at all.  Second, redownload the JU and make a bunch of backups before patching.  (Always do this when you patch something; you can't unpatch it afterwards or fix a bad patch with a good one.)  Check the sticky threads for how to tell the difference between headered and unheadered ROMs; that'll save you some wasted time.
So how about that axeil edition, huh?  You didn't forget about it, did you?

man its been a minute since i played this again.

where do i go after i get the gravity suit? do i stay in Maridia?
You got gravity in crateria, not maridia.  Maridia is where you need to go next. Try to get to extreme lower-right of crateria.

So, I managed to hit the chozo guardian first before the game detected Samus on the PB expansion. GG low%.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Chozo Guardian: Pick me!  Pick me!
Power Bomb: Move over, Chozo, I'm first.

Power Bomb: Me sad. Sad

How do you get to the bottom floor of the lost caverns?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Legitimately, I believe you reach the top, and then go back down, but to glitch it, I believe you have to have some speed, and just drop below the central platform.

I've been applying the .ips patch (tried both of them) to Super Metroid (JU) [!]
Headerless crashed zsnes 1.51 and header wouldnt load it. Any ideas?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
The water rooms before Kraid are all just jumping from platform to platform, and there isn't much to it.  The only one that can be a pain is the last one (where just your feet are in the water), and you just need to run to the left, and jump as you reach the end of the platform.  You should spin-jump out, and onto the ledge above.
My mistake on that last post, thats why I edited it out. I had two forum tabs open. One was for Redesign and one was for Precision. Got them mixed up, sorry!
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I have no problems using 1.51 or 1.43.  Double-check you have a clean ROM, and then check its size.  Unheadered is 3072, and headered is 3073, so apply the relevant patch, and you should be fine.
Alright, so I have been using Super Metroid (JU) [!] and not Super Metroid (JU).
This was probably the problem. Anyone know where I can grab a rom from a website that doesnt require me to register?
No, [!] means a verified good dump. If there is a problem somewhere, it's definitely not that.
Alright, here we are:

SM_Redesign_v2.1_Header.zip
892kb
Metroid_Redesign_Headered.ips
1,092kb

&

SM_Redesign_v2.1_Headerless.zip
892kb
Metroid_Redesign.ips
1,092kb

Using:
Super Metroid (JU) [!].zip
1,536kb
Super Metroid (JU) [!].smc
3,073kb

Just tried applying both .ips to two different Super Metroid (JU) [!].smc copies, both of them are 4,096kb
Header doesnt load. Says Chksum Fail and "Bad rom" (which isnt true cuz I can load it before the .ips)
Headerless crashed zsnes.

WTF!!!
Which ZSNES version? Anything past 1.36 (iirc) isn't considered stable with SMR. Maybe you should just try SNES9x 1.51 (it doesn't have all the cool filtering and shit, but at least it always works).
zsnes 1.51 & snes9x 1.51 are NOT working, tried both .ips again.
I've done this many times before with many different games, I dont understand what is going wrong.
At this point would anyone be game for emailing me their file or is that against forum rules?
Time bomb set get out fast!
Posting such a file is against the rules, and so is asking for one.  But of course, if someone were to send it to you by means other than a public post, that would be their business.

Likewise, linking to somewhere you guys could download an excellent collection of pre-patched Super Metroid hacks would be non-kosher.  But a casual suggestion to visit 4chan's /rs/ board and search for "metroid" would be legit.
Thanks for the help, I will follow the rules.

Okay, so I've read through the first 14 or so pages and spent about three hours searching in the game, so sorry if this was already answered but I'm completely flummoxed.

So.  I just got the walljump boots.  Earlier hints in the thread indicate that I need to find some sort of "acid room" to get the bombs. I... have no idea what this acid room is. I was trying to backtrack to my ship, but there are some oddly spaced walljump surfaces that seem to be impossible to traverse without High Jump, and my only other routes are blocked by green doors or a bizarre pipe that lets me shoot through it but not roll through it.

Haaaaaaalp!
You do have to wall jump to get back to your ship.  Walljumping in Redesign takes a little getting used to, you just need to rapidly wall jump back and forth across the shaft.  From your ship you need to travel to the right as far you can go.
