Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
I started this a long time ago, promised myself I'd come back to it when I had time and before starting any other large projects... and I honestly am just not getting enough time to work on it and I'm also stymied by the fact that, despite being great at programming, there are SEVERAL other game development areas I'm simply not good at. I still honestly want to finish this, but to be realistic that isn't going to happen. So instead of just stubbornly hiding what I have and basically throwing it away I'm posting it here.

The other problem is that it's been 3 years since I've touched much of this, and it was already the sum of about 3 years of work. So while I remember a lot ABOUT it, I'm pretty rusty on a lot of the details of how this work (and I don't reeeally have the time to dig through and fix things). The puzzle mini-game I'm especially sad doesn't currently work, though if I'm lucky it's not actually much more work than running the patch and setting up the room. As I said I don't have a whole lot of free time to work on hobbies, so I'm not going to go trying to fix things unless there's a particular need for it, but I'll stick around a bit in case people want help with something in particular.

About the contents:
First off, this will probably be at best teasingly interesting to non-hackers. You can play Ceres and a few rooms on Zebes and then you run into undefined doors (which trigger a fun thing that is only half-coded in before crashing the game). So don't go looking for anything too interesting here if you aren't a hacker, sorry.
The ips is the latest build, though there is a lot of stuff that simply isn't reachable from it (Like the changes to Draygon) and I'm not sure if I'm missing a lot of stuff either.
"Insanity Hack.txt" has the main plans and organized notes of progress. It's mostly self-explanatory, people trying to figure out how to export/use certain parts of Insanity will likely want to start from there.
There are several changes that make the game utterly incompatible with other games savestates and even SMILE itself. Further, Insanity uses its SRAM for maps (mapping got REALLY complicated with one of the changes I had planned), so even within itself you need savestates that store the SRAM or you will corrupt the map. In order to build for Insanity, I edited other copies of Super Metroid to generate the compressed map data as raw binary files, then wrote and tied those files and the room headers and doors and everything together in InsanityBank8F.asm (which is now MUCH MORE than just bank 8F). It actually worked out pretty nicely since xkas can handle pointers well enough!
ReadForInsanity.txt was something I was planning on putting on a website. I had some silly stuff planned for the release with some admin support. It'd happen on April 1st, with a text link that said the actual link to the game, and on click would take you to a fake link to the game which would open up to Samus's ship, without Samus. And just sit there. A plant would ask 'Is this an April Fools joke?' to which I'd reply 'That's a silly question, is today April 1st?'. Theeeeen, on April 2nd I'd have an admin delete the topic while I post the exact same thing (with correct links)... with the same plant question and same response. And utterly deny that anything happened the day before. I probably take my April 1 jokes too seriously :D

Aaand I think that's it. I'm almost certainly forgetting interesting files I should be uploading though, I'll probably be posting things as people bring them up.

Dang.  That's a shame.  I've known you to be working on this for years, but you aren't the first, and won't be the last, to hit that insurmountable 'no time' barrier. aiwebs_002

Kejardon are you finally back?! Have you seen the newest Glitched categories that me and few other guys created? for example 6% is halved down to 3% thx goes to door transition skip with pause abuse (which you once said would stay as lowest % forever) :P
I'm highly interested of the thing you mentioned several years ago: you wrote something about it being possible to explode zebes with power suit alone. current glitched tas (2% arbitrary code) and humanly possible 3% are really close to 0% already
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
Sniqq: I heard some about it yeah. I'm really surprised that pause trick works, though in retrospect it makes sense and isn't any more careless than half of Super's glitches. The oob magic block is neat though. I figured getting oob would be the key to the lowest percent possible, I didn't think that would be done before super missiles though.
I'm not really back, mostly just poking in for a bit.
The power suit comment is complicated. I was investigating how to manipulate the space/time beam without any invalid address reads so it would work on any console or emulator the same. That comment had to do with controlling an index via Samus's suit colors, first tests with varia or gravity worked and at that time I think I found an option with powersuit that worked too.

KEJARDON, it is absolutely great to see you here again (although you probably will not know me), and I am really happy about you looking into SM after so many years again. There have been massive discoveries regarding Super Metroid during the last year. I do not even know where to start telling the news...

First of all: There exist 9 different "non-major-glitched" (no GT-Code, no Out of Bounds, no Spazer+Plasma) 14% categories now, and the summarized results can be seen here:
https://m2k2.taigaforum.com/post/a_new_type_of_low__run_involves_ice_beam_and_x_ray_scope.html

Then, there is a categorized list of SM mechanics, details, glitches, physics, techinques and similar things:
http://pastebin.com/xs2zHG01  [1. Version]

Also, over at Metroid Construction forum, there is some exploration analysis that I started some months ago:
http://forum.metroidconstruction.com/index.php/topic,3204.0.html  [within the spoiler brackets there]

And then, there would be a lot of findings that were used to derive those results here (if you are interested):
https://www.youtube.com/user/eternisedDragon7/videos

Explicitly, those are:
Item-Tree analysis videos;
methods to create Blue-Suit (Crystal Spark [actually, there is a variety of situation in which one can activate a CF], Varia-Blue-Suit, X-Mode-Blue-Suit [which uses a mode that I call "X-Mode" which you found] , Reserve-Mode-Blue-Suit [which uses another mode that you found],...);
mid-air-Springball-jump techniques [with which one can even gain infinite height under water];
many applications of yet another thing that you found: Getting into solid blocks by freezing creatures slightly within those blocks (Freeze-GGG, Botwoon-Skip inbounds, Freeze-Walk, Freeze-Climb and Freeze-Sink);
a method plus applications for getting through thin platforms using a CF that both, Cpadolf0 and me found;
Grapple-Bombjump-jump applications;
Bomb-Grapple-teleportation using transitions;
NBMB inbounds analysis (maximum seems to be 83% without OoB or ST-beam);
applications of Reserve-Mode.
(...)

If nothing anymore can awake your interest for Super Metroid, then it is not my fault...
[There are way too few glitch finders/ sequence breakers for SM, so all kinds of help or even just ideas are appreciated.]

Kiiinda entirely offtopic to be honest but I'm too lazy to make another topic and everything for it:

This one's a bit old, I've heard of this before I even 'disappeared' :P

I've never really lost interest in Super Metroid. I've lost free time to experiment and pore over machine code to figure out new exploits. So I can only even skim through the things you linked.
The most interesting thing I'm seeing is that apparently you can force-stand during the greyout glitch (old name I gave it yeeeears ago), even during crystal flash and other things. I know I've triggered reserve tanks during then (see: Killing Ridley with chainsaw beam), but I never noticed that. It's pretty neat, especially since you can jump because you're in the standing pose no matter where you are. I imagine there's tons of interesting applications for that, just off the top of my head I almost want to go see what happens if you pull it on Draygon or chozo statues or other things that grab you.
Another random idea/curiousity; has anyone poked at full-screen murder beam and figured out how it works? Speedrunning into Mother Brain's first form after you destroy the cage is another thing that might be poked at. If there are alternate ways or places to use those it might lead to interesting exploits... but as always there's a million things I want to do and very few hours to spend in my day.

Ok. Well, it is true that my post was off topic, but for me (and probably for sniqq/sniqwc3 and others), the fact that you ´are here again´/ ´show that you are still here´ is kind of exciting, and since you are a top glitch finder, I thought it could be useful to keep you up-to-date regarding the latest things...
Since otherwise, this is off topic again, so I hide it:

And how should one know that you did not lose interest if there is nothing to hear from you for years, anyways? On the other side, of course, I am glad that you did not lose interest at all aiwebs_011 .

Hmm, sure you know about the topic of that thread and the corresponding category, but I meant my last post there (which is kind of off topic there, too, but the whole thread seemed to be dead and I did not want to open up a new thread because I thought the info I wanted to provide would fit in there) were the other 14% categories are explained. And those other categories are by far not that old
(for example the X-Speed and X-Powerbomb categories are at most 1 week old, since that is when I found the methods to generate Blue-Suit (or Shinespark-Suit respectively) using greyout glitch/reserve-mode [except those or other tricks that make those categories possible were already known by someone] ).
Next thing: Using greyout glitch and the force-stand to execute a(nother) jump (during a jump). I do not see the method that you have in mind to make it possible to use this force-stand directly for a jump, and I tested it already even with frame-advance but could not do another jump with it, and assume that this is impossible. Instead, one can maintain the momentum though. But you are right, in principle, a standing position (even above ground like for example during a Flatley-jump) can be used for jumps, as it can be seen during a Grapple-Bombjump-jump:

[Also, interrupting a CF or interrupting a delayed shinespark respectively is the key to generate Shinespark-Suit or Blue-Suit respectively (but I know that you at least know/knew this fact for the Blue-Suit.]
And yes, I know about that Ridley-Chainsaw-Beam-Kill video, which I watched recently [since I want to find all minimal item-combinations that are sufficient to beat the game ("minimal" not meaning "low%" but w.r.t. subsets instead), and it could be used to cut off ammo during the fight with MB2 when not having Charge ] and actually inspired me to find these applications for greyout glitch when I noticed the stand-force within the video.

I myself do not know too much about Murder-beam, but since quite brutal beam-glitches were used in one of Cpadolf0´s ACE (arbitrary code execution) any%(glitched) TASes where those things were used near GT, someone wrote down corresponding information regarding those beams in here, I think:
http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/SNES/SuperMetroid.html

I think, again one of Cpadolf0´s TASes does actually run into MB1 to gain echoes and even load a shinespark that way.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
There's some good looking stuff. I miss you Kej

Insanity Final.ips is doing nothing. I suspect you chose the wrong ROM selection order when making the patch
Ouuuuum
Holy crap. Today is just full of surprises.

As a rabid collector and organizer of SM hack info, Kejardon, I would beg that you dig through everything and post all unseen documentation, files, ideas and everything else SM hack-related that you have sitting around, no matter how worthless you think it is. Since I started hacking, I've gathered every tiny piece of info I could find, going as far as skimming IRC logs occasionally in case I've missed good discussions. I keep all of it backed up in multiple places, and I write detailed guides based on this info as I learn stuff.

tl;dr: please post everything you've got related to Super Metroid hacking for the good of galactic civilization!
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
Whoops.
Let's try that again. Actually tested the IPS this time too.

Kejardon since you're the out of bounds master I might need your help at one thing: I need a way to bring 01 door transition block to the main crateria plaza room's out of bounds area by simply visiting certain room and then reloading the save from 1st crateria save point (not sure if its even possible, but the similar way you used in the classic low% glitched tas to bring 01 door block to mother brain's out of bounds area to skip it). '

The current setup that is used for getting the 01 transition block there is using other save file and creating it with x-ray from out of bounds, but its pretty slow and takes time so i wonder if the block could be brought to that OoB simply by visiting some room and reloading save

I don't know of anything better than a brute force search, sorry. And I don't have the time for that kind of thing anymore.

In other news I apparently had a private version of SMILE that allowed for exporting the compressed tilemap to a .kej file. In 1.32 and 2.00 options. You might try renaming your favorite version of SMILE to SMILEK.exe and maybe it'll work too.

Specifically, by using SMILEK.exe (instead of SMILE.exe), SMILE will place a romname.kej file next to your rom when you open a room. That .kej file is a nice compressed tilemap that you can import directly into the ROM, which is what I did for Insanity.

Kejardon, I don´t know if you still look into this forum (or this thread), and yes this post is again somewhat off-topic (since sadly it seems that your interesting hacking ideas and concepts have not yet been implemented into released or currently developed hacks), but there are 2 major game mechanics that bug me, and I gave up on investigating those, although both would/could change the (inbounds) low% categories and the according TASes in crucial ways and could be used for general sequence breaks.
Explicitly those are:
1. Namespoofer´s (highly likely fake/hoax) bluesuit-keep after shinespark crash-animation [which one can see in this visualization of the savestate provided in his post:

] from a very long time ago in TASVideos (http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=550&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=3340)[which theoretically potentially could be used to traverse through all of Maridia and back out of it by chaining such shinesparks together (of course, depending on the required circumstances needed for that quirk) ]:

I'm getting extremely fed up with trying to get to this dam Plasma beam room..

Find all these fucked up glitches, and here is the weirded 1 yet..

And bluesuittttttttt

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/102453562/taco.smv

Gay transitions.. -.-

2. Dissolete´s (again very old) damage-boost through door-shells (maybe in PAL?) [which obviously would change a lot if it could be applied elsewhere in similar manners] which looks rather "legit"/trust-worthy, but I don´t trust the environment provided by the hack this trick is happening in:

I kind of doubt any of those 2 things are possible (and will handle them that way, just like the NTSC Red Brinstar GGG including that odd shinespark), mainly since both are so old and the TASers knew about those.

I assume you don´t have a lot of time to look into stuff like this again, but it would really help me if these things could be clarified. =)
