Well, it's easy like doing an avi off the emulator, then using your movie maker to splice with photos and somesuch (there's no photo/mini-video dump to put in SMILE, so picture splicing is done through custom movies, or else some serious photoshop ASM).
Okay I can work SMILE fairly good but i can't work hex at all or any other etc

So what 'm asking if anyone would like to come on board with this hack to help me with it?

and if you don't seem to understand this is a prologue! a prologue doesn't explain everything at once thats why you play the game to see what happens :P

I understand, however it isn't like a mystery when you write it. The way you write it, it seems more like bad explaining. The entire "plot" seems flawed. I just watched again, and I have another question. Why would Samus still be fetching metroids for the Galactic Federation after knowing that they were building a SUPER EVIL DERPERVATION MACHINE? And then why would she suddenly turn around and say, "omg I gotta stop the federation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"? It just doesn't make any sense, sorry. Even sci-fi fictions have some sort of real reason that everything's happening.

Also, if you want to learn more about hacking, you could make a few practice mini hacks and get a good hang of it before starting a massive hack straight off.

That's a nice one. And if you ever try to put a bitmap image in a background, ask a professional about how to do that. Right now I'm trying to do that through Tile Layer Pro, but for some reason I'm either just stupid of using bitmaps on tile editors, or it's not going right. :|

I was thinking of saying the same thing.  Your project seems very very ambitious for you right now.  Your questions seem so numerous that its as if your coming up with the ideas but needing assistance at every turn to try to make them happen.  I took about 7 programming classes in college (long time ago) so I know a few things about how computers think, and while I don't know how to make hacks, I DO know enough to know this: if I was going to try to do it I would need to practice and study for at least a year or two before I tried to do anything really special.

Some of your ideas are great though, but some of them seem either impossible or unfeasible. I do hope you end up making an excellent game in the end.

Okay stop criticising and either enjoy it or hate it when it's released and I work better if I'm put into the deep end :)

I got the impression the hatchling was the last metroid she delivered to the federation before learning they were putting them in some kind of machine.  Also, why can't a metroid power something?  A metroid powers Samus's suit at the end of SM doesn't it?  We also see in Fusion that other organisms can strangely give powers to machines (isn't it mentioned that she absorbs their DNA?  I haven't played it in a while).  DNA may not have been the best word, but why the hell not?

Thanks for the encouragement, i do admit its going to be hard to do this but hey tis not like anything bad can happen (famous last words :P )

I am reading up on some HEX tutorials just now so hopefully I'll be better in no time (obviously won't be a click of the fingers)

Realize before you get frustrated or annoyed by the comments of the other forum members that we've all seen many people who are very excited with lots of ideas who promptly get burned out and give up halfway through. Any advice given from people here is just an attempt to steer you away from that graveyard.

AFAIK everyone who knows how to do things beyond SMILE tools is either already doing that in their own hack or not interested in hacking at all. There is a stigma of sorts associated with collaborative hacking: it doesn't usually end well. Too many chiefs and not enough indians...

Learning hex is almost boringly easy and there's lots of helpful guides scattered around the internets (Check BT's basic SMILE guide for a good starting point, it's linked to in page 1 or 2 of the SMILE help thread). The truth is, if you really want to make a great hack you're going to have to take the time to learn that stuff on your own. The good news is that you'd never necessarily have to actually learn anything big like ASM to make a great hack. All you need is time and patience.

Alternatively you can just work to your current capacity on this hack and learn through experience. All the "great hacks" out now were precedented by average or even shitty hacks by the same authors (though some of them were wise and did not make them public, hardy har). By the time you finish your first hack you usually know if you'd want to make a truly awesome hack and if you still wanted to at that point you'd probably be excited about the prospect of learning hex/tiling/ASM stuff.

Again that's my 2c. It's hard to be different than the other dozens of hacks out there but it's worth it in the end I think.

Thank you for that and to clear things up obviously I couldn't put this in due to space restrictions but she heard of the GF' plans whilst retriving that last metroid and was doubting whether she should leave it or go against the GF!

Okay I see what you're saying and I am going to do what I can to not make an arse of this but you do have to admit theres a difference between bad criticism and steering me away from the graveyard  Wink

I'm glad my comments didn't upset you, because I do hope your hack is awesome.  And for all I know I'm totally wrong, I'm making statements based on nothing more than my impression.  Perhaps you are jumping the gun a little bit by starting any hype on this hack at this point, maybe this thread should have been started when you're near completion ?

Hey calm down. Now you're just going after me. Seems like you can't take criticism pointing out some observed mistakes in a storyline that will be difficult to execute.

Butterflyboy, it seems your comment didn't affect him, but my criticisms seem not to have the same fate. Very well, if my help isn't appreciated here, I will be leaving this topic and never looking back.

That probably would have been the best idea but I didn't know so many people would be interested in this tbh im happy they are but i believe its better people see what the hack started from to what it turned into if you know whatt I mean :)

Nah I'm not going after you it's just if I asked you how many films have you saw where at the start of the film you hear something you don't understand and by the end of it you know everything there is about it....thats what will be the same for this. I know already its going to be difficult to achieve but you can't take something by face value :)

I can assure you that your help is very much appreciated but you had already made big complaints without even asking about them.
Okay guys I have had some time to think and I have decided to scrap the Full hack idea and go with a half hack (im assuming a half hack is where the rooms etc are different but the story and "do this to win" scenarios are the same right?) but anyhooo I will do this instead as it will be easier obviously but with college soon approaching I won't have as much time to spend on this so half hack will be the best idea for now so everything will be scraped :)

however...........

You can all look forward to this half hack although won't be seen for a while im sure you all will enjoy it :)

So far Crateria has been completed so im going pretty steady with this!

Any ideas that any of you have don't hesitate to inform me :)

And a huge apology to Bolognab for anything i said out of line and I hope i've not heard the last of him  Wink
Almost happy
As far as I know, half hack means that the map layout is the same as in the original, only the rooms are modified. A full hack means that new rooms are created/ rooms are completely reworked and that the mapping is redone. Story and mission objectives does not really have anything to do with it.

Cpadolf is correct. Story doesn't really change whether something is considered a half hack or a full hack; that's based on how much the game is changed. Redesign, GD, and Cliffhanger are examples of full hacks. Soup or AMDZ are examples of half hacks. It sounds like you have ambitions for a full hack and I think you should stick to that--you'll learn a lot more that way.

Just, uhm, make lots of backups. Aegis has about 140 backups at this point. :D

Well the no-duh thing is, is well if you're making a story, you need to have the hack designed to somewhat coincide with it and have it make sense. On the other hand, room-by-room backups ftw.

Okies i will do that then :)

mind you I have to say it was seeing glimpses of Aegis that made me want to create my own :D
