Cool now play Golden Dawn
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Opium, I know you've played through both hacks a lot, so have you considered doing a speed run?

Even if you didn't get what you consider to be an amazing time, I'd still like to see an average run through the game.  It's also one of the best ways to learn where all the items are for lazy peeps like me that  don't want to X-ray every room after completion. Razz

In fact, I'd like to see any normal run through more of the hacks here.
I'd like to, but first I need to get schooled on recording.  Maybe later today I'll do some reading about it.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Well, recording isn't an issue, as everybody has access to snes9x, so only an .smv file is necessary.  If you wanted the extra work, to convert it to an .avi (or whatever), then you can do, but I think an .smv would be more thna sufficient.

As far as recording goes, I'll try to tell you as much as I can:

Load snes9x, and then the ROM. Rolling Eyes
I'd recommend recording from the planet, as most versions of Ceres are similar anyway.
Click on File > Movie Record...
It will then begin recording what you're doing.
There are two types of save states, those in-game, and those in-movie.
When you're recording a movie, save states work exactly the same as normal, so you just save, play a bit, and if you make a major cock-up (wouldn't worry about the little ones), then you just load and replay, and your recording will be as if it never happened.
When you want to take a break (like overnight), pause the emulator, and save state.
Then when you want to resume, load the emulator, load the ROM, click File > Movie Replay..., select your movie, and then load state.
You should then be back where you left off, with  the emulator still paused, so just unpause, and resume.

You may also want to set up easier shortcut keys for saving and loading states.  Personally, I use the keypad 'Enter' for save, and 'Backspace' for load.

If you need any more help, be sure to ask.  Possibly PM me too, rather than us hijacking this thread.
Hey guys,

I am in Prototourian trying to get the Plasma Beam. Can someone please give me a hint regarding how to get this thing? The only "opening" I can find is one on the lower right hand side of the room (you can bomb there and drop down under the center of the room) but once I am in there, I can't find a way up to the middle of the room to get it. I have bombed and power bombed everywhere I can and can not find where to go to get this thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maddog~

I believe that you have to enter that room from the bottom.  Did you enter prototourian from the northeastern side of brinstar and use power bombs on the ceiling yet?
Yeah, I have explored most of it. I think I am missing 2 or 3 rooms (on the game map, there may be hidden ones I haven't gotten to yet.) The only entrance I can not seem to use is the one from Crateria, it is a one way metal door. I have used the other 2 from Brinstar however. Looking at this map http://www.dubreuil.ca/mapstation/Maps/SM-Dependence-2.0.png it looks like there is a way in from the left, but I can't figure out how to get there.

It may be a door that is used in the final escape, or it may be a fake door.  If memory serves me, there is at least one totally fake door in the game (I think its a green door in Prototourian).  As far as plasma goes - as long as you enter the room from the bottom and you arent in the upper portion of the room at all, then plasma is quite attainable.  You probably have to bomb jump through an invisible block. X-Ray doesn't always reveal those openings so don't rely on it at all.
After I had finished Golden Dawn I decided to find this one and play through it as well. I got as far as Prototourian on the path towards Draygon and I got completely stuck, but I picked it up again today after letting it sit there for a few weeks and managed to find that one Speed Booster block hidden in the room with the recharge unit attached to it and I was able to continue on. I'm now at the point where I'm ready to head into New Tourian (since I had done Lower Norfair first on accident since I couldn't find a way out of the area without being forced to take down both bosses) but I can't figure out how to get inside. I know exactly where the elevator is located in Crateria thanks to the map, but I can't get past either set of SB blocks to get to it. Please tell me I'm missing something obvious.
Ok, so I guess I don't need help after all. Looked up how to do the Quick Charge on the site and I was able to break through the speed booster blocks in the room above the elevator on my first try. Still think that making it required to proceed this late into the game, when the only other place I can think of that you need to do that is to get X-Ray (which I didn't get since I didn't know how to QC at that point.) is kinda stupid, but whatever. Now I can finish this thing properly.
hey i am against the golden thing statue thing and i can't kill it how can i kill it
I'm not 100% sure because I haven't played Dependence in a long time, but I think he takes damage the same as the golden torizo in the original rom.  He's just really hard because there's almost nowhere to stand.  Save states are your friend.
can some body tell me how can i get speed booster!?
i already saw it just right there! but not able to reach!!!
tried so many time and different way to go.
i don't know what's the right way!
If I remember right you need the spring ball in order to hop over those crumble blocks leading to its room. It's fairly close to that area so look around a bit to the west of the SB room and you should find it. If you already have it though the only thing I can tell you is to keep holding the jump button as you go over the crumble blocks and use save states if you need to since it can be a pain even with the spring ball to get over there. It was for me at least.

I went looking for a video of someone getting it and found this. The sound is really off but it shows him collecting SB. It's around 6:21 to the end.

Okay this one is driving me nuts...There's an energy tank in the crateria right near wrecked ship. The area with the water at the bottom and the room at the top that you can't get through until the power is on...

I discovered the E-tank with a power bomb, but its surrounded by blocks that can't be bombed, grappled, or anything. I'm thinking freeze glitch to get it, but there are no baddies around to freeze. Anyone?
What'd you say?
You could always open it up in SMILE and check it out for yourself if you really want. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help but it's been at least three years since I've played this hack.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You have to do a mid-air spark from below.  Get yourself to the top right-hand door.  Now walk left along the ship style tiles until you find the crumble block in the floor.  The blocks stright above are speed booster blocks.  Build your speed, then mid-air spark upward above the crumble block.
