I have a couple n00b questions now.

1: Since there are going to be bosses, can you fight them multiple times? Say you fight Kraid on screen 100, would I be able to come across him again in another 100 or so screens?

2: With the boss fights, are you going to make sure you have to fight them every time you enter their room? (This would only matter if you can fight them more than once.) What I mean is this. Say you've defeated Ridley once. The second time you come across him wouldn't you come across the problem of the grey door cap not being there, allowing the player to meander off into the next room? I'm sure that is easily fixed by grey doors always closing when you enter the room, I just wasn't sure what you were planning for that in regards to fighting bosses again.

3: Is it going to be possible to fight two or more bosses in a row? Or are you going to make that impossible for the game to spit out Ridley, Kraid, Ridley, Ridley, Draygon, Phantoon, Ridley all next to each other? Because I think it would be very impossible to beat them all in a line without serious savestate abuse do to the relatively small amount of pickups left behind after defeating them.

4: My last question (For now!) is are you going to put special rooms in depending on how many screens the player has covered? Like after 50 screens would the player then get a special item like a new beam or more missiles/supers/bombs or whatever else at that point? I believe that way you would at least garuntee the player to get an item at a set time, and possibly not getting Screw Attack in the second room, but making them wait for a few thousand rooms before picking up such a powerful item.

It would be awesome if the environments in which you fight the bosses changed too, have multiple GT rooms for example.  You could take popular boss rooms from other hacks or make your own.

Refilling really wouldn't be too much of a problem, with the exception of successive Ridley fights or other bosses where you're not going to be refilling during the fight.

I forget how gray doors work, couldn't you just set them to open on a certain number of enemy deaths instead of setting a state change?  I don't know how bosses affect enemies defeated, but it's probably only a little asm to reset the boss state anyways...
Xaggoth :  shhh you'll ruin what I had planned!

1: no, you can't fight the same boss until you have fought them all, however the order you fight them is random

2: Yes, after beating all the bosses you get to re-fight the bosses again, in a random order.

3: that's answered in #1

4: You gave me an idea........ a HUGE hack to do.... but a great idea......
Are you going to be including all minibosses?  I think that fighting BT and Crocomire would be very very boring, especially if they came up often.  I don't know anything about SMs random number generator, but would you/do you plan to bias any of the rooms?

I was never a big fan of the new physics, with the exception of the speedbooster (which probably wouldn't even really come up in this?), but it'll be awesome either way.
I plan to alter physics, a balance between SMR's gravity fall speed, and original SM,  but either way I will work something out.  I hate SM's original float with a passion.

There will be a planned "blacklist of sorts.  once samus enters a room she won't encounter that room for, say, 30 more rooms until its even a remote possibility of entering again.

I think crocomire can be made into an interesting battle as well as BT, and as I said, you only fight them once.  until all of the bosses (minus MB and ceres ridley) are fought.

Thank you! grin new

I didn't really dislike the SMR physics, they were actually quite well done I think, but I played SMR for the first time in a few months on Sunday, and I was like, "How the hell did I finish this?!"

It just takes a lot fo time to get used to I guess. Since I've been playing with the normal physics for a while, edited physics kinda screw me over.

I have an idea you might be able to use.

Could you implement a "boss meter" for how many times you've defeated a boss? I think that would work well for a hack like this.
This hack will have huge replay value. I guarantee it.

Also, the Boss meter Metroid master suggested could be cool, but instead of a meter just have it as a number value. Each Boss defeated take 1 away. Like the Metroid meter in Metroid two. Once 0 is met it the doors should set to take the player to Tourain and then start the random door thing towards mother brain. Different path each play through.

I think the idea is that it never goes toward the end of any game, as it's planned to be endless.  As long as you live, the game will continue indefinitely.  Each time you play, it will be different anyway, as the doors' exits are randomly generated as you enter.

I loved SMR's physics the were so much better than the originals, I'd say almost perfect!

How about using a sort of zones concept, like one area at a time between bosses, so the game might randomly select Norfair, and you play Norfair "style" rooms until the first boss, then it could select say Maridia. It would be awesome if each boss had a different boss room using each areas tiles, so you could fight Kraid in Maridia for example.
Alright guys, I love the ideas, but seriously stop throwing them out in this post, PM me if you want.  because a lot of these ideas have already been discussed in private.

But no mother brain.  Sure there will be rooms of all environments.  but the idea is that its random and you have no idea whats next.

A boss counter is not needed since the goal here is not to see how many times you can beat a boss, it's to see how many screens you can explore.

We sorry - we just saw you make hack game and brain melt too excited. Razz

Are you looking for any users to help build the 'screens', or is it all going to be done by you? (Not that that's a bad thing, of course)
Due to, well, finally being in the real world and finding myself limited in time, I might get the help of 1 or a few others.  but before that can be done the engine needs to be completed, all the major hacks in place.  then have all the blueprint rooms completed

Am I right in assuming that some rooms will involve killing enemies, and others will involve puzzles and skills tasks?

Finally have a new Demo Video showing just how random the door code is.  All these rooms are in inside a single room with 24 screens acting as "separate" rooms None of the doors have any door definition.  everything is determined simply by the BTS of the door tile (00 being a left side door, 01 being right, 02+ being a boss)

Thanks again to InsomniaDMX

Lol doesn't unlimited energy kinda make the game pointless?
uh, he was just proving a point.  not actually playing the game =)

Is it just me or was Ridley acting different?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
He seemed to be the same to me, except for when he got stuck on one of the 'face' blocks, which aren't normally there.

This has to be one of the best ideas I have ever seen.
I would definatly play this being a Megaman Fan.
And I love the concept. Polo was right Survive until you die.
This will be amazing. Its kinda sad I never beat Redesigned... I just got back to it.
Anyway cant wait for it.
