Ready and willing.
Guess I'm taking the high jump on hard then... But what the heck can I get rid of? My optionals are an E-tank, Screw Attack, an extra Missle Tank (besides the one you need), 2 Super Missle Tanks, and the Long Beam.

My advice to you, Yoshi, would be to nix the Long Beam, and trade in that extra missile tank for an e-tank or supers (both of which are infinately more valuable). I'd also forget the Hi Jump, but if you really want to take it I guess it'll do.

Skip the Long Beam? I'd figure it'd be better to have a Long Beam, but... you do use missles in the evil parts more. Still, that would make the space pirate ship infinitely harder, especially if those guys at the end turn out to be half as scary as I've heard...

And, simply put, if to get out of the first escape in time on Hard mode requires lots of bomb-jumping, there's no way in hell I'd get through it without the high jump.

I never had much issues with skipping the Long Beam. Those pirates at the end can be dealt with fairly easily, if you flee back up to the upper platform and use hit and run tactics (using the morph ball tunnel for cover).

The long beam is worthless.  I did 15% runs on both Normal and Hard without it and had absolutely no extra trouble (actually, I take that back.. Those hives of little gnat things were a pain to hit since you had to get close and the little gnats would fly at you, esp. since they are early game and before you get an e-tank.. but otherwise, yeah, Long Beam is a waste).
