I think I found a little speedtrick in Gathering Hall. When you use the Morph Ball cannon, before you hit the plate, jam the X button like mad and you'll unmorph before you hit it. Looks cool and saves like 3 seconds...

>_>

Dunno if this works everywhere, I'll try as soon as I use the next one.
I've found a faster route for crossing Sanctuary Entrance coming from Power Junction headed in the direction of the temple entrance. You hope into the orb cannon, which fires you up to the ring where you can go up to the vigalence cannon or go down to the orb cannon. Go up to the vigalence turret, and space jump in the direction of the temple entrance, landing on one of the suspension cables. These cables don't hold you up, but you can use the landing on it part to give you a little extra distance to let you land on the slanted, broken bridge, which you can jump from onto the main ground if you're quick. It saves a lot of time.
I beat Quadraxis a couple of days ago in a 21% game, and I'd be interested to know if anyone has experimented with a way of powerbombing the antennae on the head - it might save time and who knows, you might even be able to get all three at once. You can't lay a bomb on the ground, as it doesn't seem to reach high enough, so you'd probably need some sort of crazy banzai jump onto the head, roll off, and then bomb on the way down.

It would help the low % game as well if it were consistently obtainable, as you'd be able to burn up all your light beam ammo in the first round instead of relying on supers as I did.
You can spider up the legs during that part, right? Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to boost off like during the last part and drop a power bomb on the head, or in its path.

No, you can't spider up the legtracks until Quad's head is in it's final stages. The tracks are there, but they're not lit up and you can't grab onto them.
Speedy grapple guardian fight by me. 45 seconds: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1993
you should add the whole shoot him in the eye when he trys to grapple you thing to the wikki
Hey, I found a faster way to get the missile expansion in GFMC compound. Go to the back of the ship (where you can fall down) Ghetto up on the little ledge there (on the back of the ship!), you just need to stand there for a millisecond (you only need to touch it) Then Morph and boost down into the pit behind the ship(you dont have to boost, its just faster) Youll respawn right on front of the missile expansion. (if you touched the ledge thingy right) Good for speedruns! I will upload vid today I think. Or someone else could do this and do a vid, dunno...

Even though this doesn't really have to do anything with speed tricks, I thought it might be interesting. It's sort of... a glitch.

I was heading to the Save Room in the Hydrodynamo Shaft (Torvus Bog), after I got some Sky Temple Keys. While jumping onto the first of the 2 rotating platforms, a preed hit me and knocked me down. I jumped back up, and then tried to jump to the second platform, but it was out of reach, but it seems I slightly landed on it, slid off to where I would fall, but then it was pushing me in mid air! I didn't fall off either! I waited for about 10 seconds, and then I did fall off. Anyone notice this?

Enjoy or something Wink
so I know that there are a bunch of post about this already...
I have thoroughly read through all there is to read about the WSA scan jump. I understand it fairly well. maybe someone can help me pinpoint what I am doing wrong. The second half of the jump looks exactly like kip's movie, and I keep checking it on the map and I make it to about 3/4 of the way exactly when the crosshairs disappear. I can do this every time, but I never make it.
Im thinking the problem lies in my initial dash to the left. It seems in the movie, Kip's screen freezes before mine does, because when mine stops, I am always farther over to the left than he is. I think this might cause me to slow down because I then hit the wall harder.  What can I do to remedy this? Anyone have a similar problem?
oh, I have tried varying my second jump time from early to mid to late and it seems like I always make it about the same distance. any ideas?
also, has anyone tried messing around with the position that you stand in before you do the jump? I have tried standing as close to the edge as possible, and some other spots, but that doesnt seem to help either.
red chamber dream
Ahh! When I saw your name, I thought you were "kip."
sorry about that.... those are my initials! :)
jng: I can't see anything that's happening in your video, although the explanation was good.

kp: If your dash freezes later than in kip's video, then you start the dash faster than he did. After you start scanning, that is.
About where to stand, just stand close to the edge on the pipe/wire thing.
I can no longer count the many hundreds of times I have tried this jump... its pissing me off sooo bad! I have got my initial dash down perfect. Everything I do looks exactly like kip's movie. I have tried varying every aspect in one way or another, and I can not get it... its so frustrating!
I read that I need to be approximately 3/4 of the way across to make it. Well, when I check the map at the instant that the crosshairs go away, the center of my arrow certainly looks like it is 3/4 of the way across. I dont know what else to try.

Hey, I know it's bad quality, it's captured with my webcam. But you dont see anything? Eh..It's not that bad!? You can see what happens can't you? :? I hope you were sarcastic. Well, if you really have problems, use my explanation...
i dont think he was being sarcastic,  they really are bad videos,  you really should invest in a tv capture card

Omg, you really mean a vid captured by webcam is bad? I didn't know that Shocked

>_>

Though, they're NOT that bad that you cant see! And yes, I'll buy one soon (not that 3 videos would be worth whatever a CC costs. Will be usefull for my speedrun later though...)
Eh, I thought the video quality was pretty good.  Excellent considering it's a webcam...

Yeah, still no one have "verified" if it really is a speedtrick or not? Now is it faster or not? I quote what I wrote over at SCU:

"Which is faster, if you come from the same room I did? Boost to ship, jump on, or boost down to the back of the ship and do the "speedtrick"?
(Remember you can do the trick a few seconds faster then I did in the vid, just jump, slide off, boost down, respawn, walk forward and you got it!) "

EDIT: Oh, got an answer over there to:

"Just saw the vid, jng's way is faster for a speed run, if you're low on health, use the normal way though."

What can I say...YAY! I discovered something usefull for 100/200% speedrunners! :D
kp, the WSA dash gave me hell too, and all the advice I can offer is try turning to face the energy tank during your second jump. This goes completely against how the dash should logically work I guess, but it was only by turning to face the energy tank that I have ever made the dash.

I don't know if it's just that I need to update some decoders or something, but at any movement, I get a large coloured square at the area of the movement. It can also be the decoding that's not-too-good. Either way, it has nothing to do with the webcam, at least not for me.
I probably should update my decoders...

yea somethings wrong with your stuff then, i can see everything in the video perfectly clear
always move fast
i posted these in another topic, but as they are the fastest (that i know of at least) ways of killing these bosses, i figured i might as well post them here.  They are from my old never-finished run about a month ago.

Chykka larva - 1:42.27
Chykka adult - 2:17.67
Grapple - 52.82
Alpha Blogg - 40.00

They can all be found at: www.metroid2002.com/bartendorsparky/mp2/boss_fights

a little trick i found for grapple boss: when it does its downtime thing, if you jump on the little ledge near the door where you came in, it will not do its grapple attack, and go immediately into walking mode, so that could save a second or two from the video time.
jng made a topic with a link to his 7.82 second faster Grapple Guardian fight...
