I don't know if this counts, and it probably doesn't, but how to get across the magma pool without grapple beam is the annoying tbj.  Some people find that easy, but i can not do a tbj, and am trying to beat the game without grapple beam and spider ball, and gravity suit.  I know this is possible, but you should save before the attempt.

In the magma pool, there is a pillar that almost sticks out of the lava.  You can't see it, but it's there.  If you L-lock spring space jump you should land almost directly on it.  Stand on the highest point of it, quickly for you are getting injured, and L-lock spring L space jump yourself to a small lip to the left.  If done correctly, you should land on the ledge.  You are across the magma pool now.

Another way, that I am still practicing, is coming from the opposite direction.  Here i have two ideas.  From the main plaza, climb to the top.  Don't cross the bridge.  If you face the bridge there should be a lower platform to your right.  Jump on it.  Now, on an alcove further right, there is a missle expansion.  You have to L-lock spring jump L space jump onto the alcove, or onto the sand by the alcove and walk over there.  From here look across the room.  That is your goal.  If you can find a point to lock on, or didn't get the missile expansion, you can dash jump over there possible(haven't tried this), or you can try a L-lock spring L space jump (why do I use so many of these, and I have tried this one and failed.

My other method is to get onto the lower platform described above, and jump on top of the super missile plug on the tree that holds a missile exspansion.  From here, I have no idea.  I'm still trying to find a different place on this tree that I can stand on.

This may help in a 100% speed run so you don't have to come back, but it most likely will not.  Just remember that all above methods need to have at least half of the credit given to me, unless already discovered by someone else, and already posted.  If you post these methods and do not give credit to me, you will be added to the metroids hit list. doing magma pool that way is already known, but you need the gravity suit for it to work.

-getting into training chamber that way is useless, as there is no point in going back that way after you visit it the first time (everything inside can be grabbed in the first time through), and there's a chozo beak blocking it if you try to go in backward (it explodes, letting you out later).

Im sure you feel like I did when i discovered how to exit quarantine chamber (whatever its called... thardus' room) without spiderball... :P

finding something *OMGNEWOMG* that hasnt already been found by someone is ridiculously hard, as Metroid Prime has been out for 4 years...

when MP3 comes out, hound on it and check everything. Then you will be able to lay claim to at least a couple things. :P

the only thing that i discovered first was arcterra 2 early in MPH...
I got through magma pool like that without gravity suit *incredibly hard*.  Thanks for info about going in backwards though.

Yep, MPH is the only thing I can say things that I found. (skip piston cave, wallwalk, and having alinos 2 be your last octo so you can use the alimbic cannon right away) Wink

Although I did find a new glitch right now. At least it's not in the prime section.

i found wallwalk as soon as i got the game, basically, but i got the game 2 weeks after it came out...
some people may know this but to get the artifact of warrior before  the boost ball you can dash jump off the the puffer on the level below you to reach it.

I have a way that is fairly fast to get your first missle expansion. I think it is a little slower than the method used in the current videos but someone who is good at bending a scan dash could improve my method to make it possibly faster. Instead of jumping across the big room and scan dashing into the half pipe and ghetto jumping to the missle launcher i just quickly jump onto the tree to the right then jump from the tree to the platform to the left. while i jump i turn to line up for a jump over to the missle expansion in the left corner of the room. left corner being left from the direction you are looking when you enter the room. But if you are good at using the scan dash i believe you can dash from the highest part of the tree you can stand on over to the missle. I have come very close to getting the dash to give me the distance and height but i am not great when it comes to dashing either. The thardus dash still kicks my butt quite often.
a few days ago I was talking with someone on irc (sonic channel) who claimed he beat the game in 1:07 (I don't know if it's true or not, but that's not my point anyway). He was talking about a trick against Omega Pirate that would allow you to beat it in 2 rounds only with power bombs. Instead of just laying the PB as soon as you hit the phazon pool as you normaly do, he does a double bomb jump and lays it at the top of the jump. he said it was very hard to do.

I don't have the time to try it myself and see if it works, as I don't have any save file close to OP, so could someone else do it?
i believe this is known. however i've never heard of it doing anything differently than just laying it on the ground. if this could be confirmed it would probably guarantee 0:59 imo.

isnt that how the power bomb trick is preformed though?

I believe that what he is saying is that you DBJ and power bomb the OP, and it knocks off his armor, but it doesnt kill it.

it then goes into invisible form, where you need the X-Ray Visor to kill it with still (ive tried that method anyways and it didnt work, but maybe it was just me).

No, it's killing OP while he's recharging with power bombs. I heard that it's possible to kill him in 2 rounds with boost, but 3 without. Don't know why that is.

Alternate Crossway:

if jumping along the wall is too hard, you can jump straight across the half-pipe from where you would otherwise jump.

Floatyjump/sunchamber SW:

you can use the 3rd mirror (its easier) and you can get back in the room after getting floaty jump the same way you went out (easier than the bj up the sun tower).
The artifact of elder without the plasma beam trick is known, but I did a search and didn't see anything about a new method I accidentally found while attempting the jump from the crates method. This way is much easier, as you don't have to have perfect timing and split-second aim.

Get on the crates as normal, but instead of leaping towards the tower, turn and face the wall directly next to you. It's the section that the tower comes crashing through when you bring it down. If you space jump towards the barrier at that point, you can land on top of the wall at the base of the barrier. The landable stretch is about a yard wide, but easy to get to. From there, just turn to face the tower, aim down, and do a space jump straight up (angling slightly away from the wall on the first jump to avoid hitting your head on the barrier) and shoot. You'll easily clear the barrier, and if you miss, just hold L and land back on the ledge to try again. It's not faster, but it certainly is easier.

I don't have a VCR else I'd put up a video of this. I'll see what I can come up with though.
very cool. need to get a video for the site.
The video quality is horrid, but you can make out what I'm talking about at least. Clearly a better recording is needed, but this is to demonstrate what I mean.

Speed runners would elect to fall off the ledge after shooting anyway to be closer to the hole it creates, but it's probably a good idea to do it regardless since I found if you just stand there afterwards you can get caught between the tower and the wall and get stuck with no way out.
Nice!Would that save some time?
It's a sequence break that allows you to get the artifact of elder on your first run through of the Control Tower, so it's bound to save SOME time. I don't think it's faster than the leap toward the tower method, but it certainly is easier and not a terrible lot slower. I go slow in the video to show the steps more clearly. I'm sure it could be done as or nearly as fast as the other method, and it will save you hair if you're having issues with that segment.

i dunno if this is known, but to save just that little inkling of time, you can unmorph in the time between the "item get!" cutscene and the "this is how to use the item" text. I think it can be done at power bombs, but i dont know. it can for sure be done at MB bombs (you just have to jam X while the cutscene is going... you can take shots, turn, and jump during this time too but its such a small period of time that it can hardly be used for anything).
I'll be back. Maybe...
triclops pit:

the missile expansion can be reached without using the x-ray platforms, by space ghetto jumping from a small ledge behind the missile-breakable pillar. i am not sure whether this saves time, as it may be just as quick to jump on the platforms, even without x-ray on the first time through magmoor.

sorry if this is already known.
yep, was found by ummeiko before i found it in summer of 2003 iirc.

I have always thougt the method to kill flaaghra was a little slow so i have been trying to speed it up where i can. I have been trying to combat dash off of the light beacons instead of jumping out to the bomb placing areas at flaaghra's base. Its probably just a negligible amount of time saved when done right so i don't know that it will ever be worth doing. I just wish i could use flaaghra to dash off of to reach the area's to bomb but that is quite a bend but maybe not impossible.

Hey i just got an idea while writing this, maybe a dash off flaaghra can make it if i stand closer to the edge. Failure is probably in my near future but i gotta go try it.
I'll be back. Maybe...
a dash off flaaghra would work during the slashing attack, when the head is close to the ground around the edges, rather than in the centre.
