I seem to have forgotten the cheat to active the debug mode. Could someone tell me?

Also, I know a debug mode is when a game still hasn't been checked for glitches and stuff like that. However, what does the debug mode look like in Metroid?
Thread title:
Debug mode is:

BOMBS MISSLE
SCREW ATACK

Make sure to put a space after bombs and screw and make sure that atack only has one "t".

And also invincibility:

NARPAS SWORD0
000000 000000
Armor Guardian
Actually, NARPAS SWORD0 000000 000000 is the debug password. The BOMBS_ MISSLE SCREW_ ATACK_ password is just a password that does crazy stuff and coincidentally spells some words.

I still don't know whether the NAR stands for North American Release, or the Password System manager, who's last name was Narihiro?
red chamber dream
No, see, it really means just what it says: the Narpas Sword. If you haven't gotten it yet, just use that password and you'll get the weapon eventually.

It rocks.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
Har har.
Is it better than the Wood Beam?
Probably, since you don't need the pipe boots to get it.
Nevermind I found it.
After I completed Warfair, I saw the Green Chozo was holding it.
yeah
I'm not sure if this counts as a "special password", or if it's already been discovered, but if you input the password

000000 00000_ 000000 00000_

It will cause the game to crash violently, and might erase your saved data (on MZM, haven't nor will try with MP). I learned that the hard way (now I gotta get all those endings back!  :(  ).
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
You sure it isn't a battery issue?

And by battery, I don't just mean for the system.
yeah
No, because when I started a new file and saved, the save data stayed and didn't erase.
isn't this a special password too?:

SAMUS8 RIDLEY
444444 444444

Gives samus a new colour to her hair...
Stuffs. Yar.
No... that one's just a coincidence. The only "special" (i.e. hard-coded into the game) one is NARPASSWORD00000. Other funny coincidence passwords include:

some-1 set-up
us-the B0MB11

999999 999999
KKKKKK KKKKKK

gunpei yokoi?
X11111 XXXXXX

(taken from the MDB)

Of course, there're many others, this is just a short list.

Hrm. I just find it hard to believe that those are coincidence... Perhaps the programmers made the password system generate those as valid proper passwords as part of the password engine (meaning that a particular spelling (gunpei yokoi? , etc) contains the proper parameters for a password)...
Pi-Face
The password system in Metroid is very loose, as in almost anything can become a working password with a little tweaking. I don't even think there's a checksum.
yeah
Code:
some-1 set-up
us-the B0MB11

Hmmm, never heard of that one. Of course, I did experiment with the password generator by typing in naughty words as passwords and most of them were valid, but didn't work when I put them in the game. Also, what weird things does BOMBS_ MISSLE SCREW_ ATACK_ do?

Oh, there is a checksum... It's just the last two digits of the password. Given how many variables the passwords have to keep track of, however (i.e. current/max missiles, max energy, which items you have, which items are there, whether or not you've killed Ridley/Kraid, whether or not you've raised Ridley/Kraid's statue, which doors you've opened, game time, where you start, etc.) the odds of hitting a valid one are pretty good. (1/256, IIRC) (of course, by "valid" I mean "having the proper checksum"... many "valid" passwords still reset or crash the game...)
yeah

Like I said, the dirty words I put in the password generator turned out to be valid, but they crashed the game when I entered them in.
however, the "samus4 ridley" code gives you a new colour to your hair, something that doesn't happen anywhere on the entire game O_0. I'm not saying this one is hardcoded, however, it may be on purpose anyways, I mean, the colour! THE HAIR! OMG!  Shocked Shocked
yeah

Actually, Samus's hair color is red when she has the Power Suit and green when she has Varia. I know. I tested it.
:X, you solved the mistery, congratulations  :D

Very Happy

I actually solved it a while ago. I was playing with Samus with her red hair and got the Varia, and her hair turned green. I also entered the 000000 000020 000000 000020 code and she had red hair, then tweaked the password to give her varia. Voila, green hair. So yeah. Varia = Green hair, no Varia = red hair.
Really, all it is is because the varia suit is a pallette swap.
It also decreases the amount of damage given to the user....i think.
