Dodging is way more important in Bloodborne sooooo yeah. That's not super appealing to me.

Bloodborne's HP regaining mechanic is its answer to a lack of damage absorbing shields. Difficulty-wise, it's probably easier than DS3 for the most part (aside from a few DLC bosses), and the games runs at 30 fps so by nature it can't be that twitchy.
Could also just play Nioh first to ease you in, it's fast but has a really good block that's better than most Souls shields

You'll get better at action games that require you to time your dodged if you play them enough.

You would think that, but my skill ceiling is very low! I am what we in the biz call... "Bad at video games."

I really don't like that mechanic though, is the thing. Might be better in practice, like much of Bloodborne. But it doesn't really matter right now cause there aren't enough PS4 games I want to justify paying for one. Nioh seems like it could also be neat but whoops that's a whole two games I'm not sure about liking! This console gen has been lacking, an okay-ish graphics card cost less than a PS4 and let me play the whole two games from 2016 I wanted to play lol.

Running around with a second character I had running along with my main one and went with killing Dancer instead of fighting Pontiff because fuck Pontiff. And yeah it's like 100% the correct move, Dancer is fun and snagging the Chunks from the Garden and Castle to make a boss ass weapon is great and Lothric Castle is a good area.

Ariandel is a much better experience on a second run through with a +10 weapon. So Kill Dancer > Raid Castle for Chunks > Head for DLC, Ignore Pontiff as long as possible is the correct route through this game.
*unpatch > airwalk around Pontiff to Aldrich >  patch > DLC

Rip game open > Delete Pontiff > Enjoy life.
I'm playing Dark Souls III online without a PS+ subscription.

How lol

Maybe you only need PS+ for PVP/Co op?

Not sure how all that works.
Well, I got invaded and there are summon signs all over...
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Huh. Maybe Sony's doing a free trial?

Enjoy(?) while it lasts, I guess.
Yeah, no idea lol

Was thinking I may have signed up for another trial without noticing, since the game always starts witht he "dude, get PS+!" popup and I tend to just mash confirm at startup.

But iirc you get the PS+ logo during trial, which I don't have near my avatar.

Lol killed Friede, killed Oceiros, ran through the graves for a few more Scales: +10 Friede Fun Scythe. Pontiff still waiting for me to show up. It's great because I know Pontiff is still gonna ruin my life cause he sucks but ignoring him feels so good.

Also I highly recommend trying out Friede's Scythe if you haven't, it's pretty fun to mess around with. Beatin up a poor snakemin with a bunch of unnecessary jumping and spinning is great.
Yeah the scythe is nice, I used it on my sorceress.

Got my moonlight greatsword last night. Dancer was tough as always this early, but I managed to solo her before heading into the catacombs.

I'd like to make a Sorcery character but I keep hearing about getting Sorcerers started as being kind of a nightmare, and now FP and Attunement effecting number of casts it I don't really know what to do with it all, lol.
Building a pure caster is painful, but if melee is okay you can just use a Raw Astora Straight Sword or something while gathering your caster pieces

Attunement is pretty straightforward, you want 35

Yeah I don't really deal with pure casters cause that seems like a really annoying restriction to put on yourself. Started fiddling with a Pyromancer first because I have a better idea of what Pyro spells are at least useful as opposed to Sorceries. I figure it'll work like my DS2 casters where I just use all sorts of spells and maybe I'll figure out which ones are good.

The Raw Astora is really good, yeah. Found that out. :v
Practical sorceries are the same as ever, Soul Arrow + its Great and Heavy variations and then Soul Spears forever. Honorable mention of Soul Stream for being a giant laser.

The most important thing about a caster playthrough though is knowing where all the buff gear is. Crown of Dusk, Scholar's Candlestick, Sage Ring, Young Dragon Ring, Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, Magic Clutch Ring. The last three all have equivalents for Miracle and Pyro casters, so any kind of caster has to wear a lot of crap to do good damage.

Is there a recommended split between Estus/Ashen Estus? I mean obviously it's going to depend largely on how much you melee vs cast but, like, I'm in this weird spot where I would probably be more effective if I was casting more but I also want my heals because I am bad and get hit a lot. Spells all drawing from the same resource vs individual charges is really throwing me. I guess it gets easier when you get your Attunement up. Right now it's like I'm always debating whether or not I should throw a Fire Orb.
I think I went fifty-fifty with my sorc

I have found it, I have found The Special Torch:

Praise be to this most powerful of torches.
lol what?
The famous Bloodborne sky statue that survived a year of patching could kick that torch's ass
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Joke's on that statue, torches ain't got asses.
Oh lol, now I'm seeing it.

I wasn't the only one who saw that? Is it still in the game?
