I like the way that social media is starting to become poisonous for a lot of companies

the BBC recently sent some internal email that its news employees were no longer allowed to express political opinions on social media
now I think the BBC has entirely gone to shit in the past 10 years and its writers now all basically seem to think it's their personal blog, but I'm looking forward to watching them try to hire and retain employees now they're basically banned from expressing political opinions on social media

that's not going to go down well lolol
too late for me, I cancelled my TV licence a couple of years ago and just stopped watching TV altogether

fuck em

good man

fuck em is the right attitude in this case
dude wish I could cancel my TV licence
how does that work in germany? do you have a state broadcaster too?
red chamber dream
the whole concept of a tv licence is hilarious to me, just fyi

like wtf
over here everyone has to pay because the licence is required if you own a device that can receive internet and radio signals as well, it's not just about tv.
ark yeah that's a common reaction from americans lol
ah okay yours is radio too

I think there used to be radio licences in the UK too, but once TV became the dominant format they just dropped the radio one, and we haven't got to the point yet where they've extended it to internet
at some point they will have to come up with something else

MPs were talking about all sorts of stupid bollocks at one point, like placing a tax on every computer sold to help fund the BBC

when they revamp it and finally come up with some other source of funding that doesn't involve TV, I will be fucking angry if they don't provide a way to opt out of it

right now I can choose not to fund the BBC by not using my TV
ark yeah so it's 100% about funding a national broadcaster

I wonder why we need one ... I suppose it's a holdover from the days where there was a british empire so we had to distribute propaganda and also stuff like provide the world service for the colonies and so on

the world service is still a thing and we broadcast radio to all sorts of places where we probably no longer have any business broadcasting anything lol
there have actually been points in history where it's been very important, so for people behind the iron curtain in the eastern european nations and so on before the berlin wall came down, the world service was effectively the only media they got that wasn't state controlled

and there was a whole thing about how some people would manage to send letters to the BBC out of the country, and the world service would always read them

it was a big part of the anti-communist propaganda network or resistance or whatever you want to call it
and it was totally illegal in those countries to receive the world service or send letters to the BBC, the secret police were really aggressive about finding people who tried to correspond, even doing things like examining the saliva used to lick the envelopes
not much longer till we're back in those times
ryu yeah, except I think the BBC are on the wrong side this time :(

it's really interesting to see how the eastern european countries are quite anti-EU and a bunch of them have very strong right wing parties, and it's probably because a lot of them still remember what living under communism was like ... stupid western kids nowadays don't understand how precious liberty is, or the endless sacrifices that people have had to make to get it
I remember talking to a doctor from poland over here and she was talking about what it was like growing up in a country with a secret police force

crazy stories
we just seem to keep on having to learn this lesson over and over again
yeah...

This hits very close to home. A lot of Eastern Europeans hate big government and high tax policies because they only serve to remind them of how corrupt and abusive their former communist governments used to be.
So our rent is getting so ridiculously high at this point that we're ready to both quit our jobs and flee this town.  It's just under $2000 a month and if we stay another year it's bound to exceed 2K.

So we drove to Albuquerque NM to see what it was like.  The food was delicious of course, but they have tons of crime there.  The southern part of the city is so bad that the locals call it 'The War Zone'.  Nearly all of the houses had bars on the windows unless you go to the northern suburbs.  Our hotel was in the northern part of town, and just down the road there was a car abandoned up on the sidewalk with two window busted out. It appeared to be stolen and ditched there.  We stayed for 3 nights, and it was sitting there during our entire stay.  The reason for the crime is because of violent mexican gangs, meth, and lots of illegal immigrants. It tops the nation in car break-ins and car theft.  No thanks!

So we're going to Vegas in two weeks.  I've lived there before, and we'll probably end up moving there.

Moving sucks and I hate to do it, but we're just total slaves to our landlord at this point.
I like turtles.
That is crazy rent. It'll make me think twice about complaining about my mortgage.
well it's the town from breaking bad so all the bad boy's gotta live there
They have a breaking bad tour bus there that drives around and shows you Jesse Pinkerton's house and other places from the show

noo stay in colorado so my house value will keep going up
