undoubtedly

when I bought my stage amp in the mid nineties I bought an expensive valve (tube) amp because back then you either bought valve gear or you bought garbage, but things are far less clear cut now

ah good to know

i have my old amp stack (solid state) still, but it's literally too loud to play in my house lol

like on volume 1 it's still fucking blasting haha
yeah I have that problem with mine too, so I bought one you can power off batteries, which I've actually taken to the park a few times

it was good when I was doing those shows to actually use the big one, it had never been used on stage so it was good to give it a run out

I've done some mods to it since then too

new speaker
the andertons guys I mentioned before on youtube are good to keep an eye on as far as gear is concerned

their blind tests fascinate me

I'm sure there are plenty of other music shop owners on youtube who do similar stuff too

maybe in 3 years when i'm good enough to want more/better equipment heh

i've been good about practicing nearly every day, i'm still really shit

youtube is so awesome for instruction though ... seems like there's no reason to pay for lessons these days

"best" part about playing guitar right now - practicing everything with the amp off, then turning it on with some gain and everything sounds like shit ;-[
I got really stoned and watched The Neon Demon last night.  Still not sure if that was a good idea.  Still not sure if the movie was amazing or trash.  Can't get it out of my head.

ok this is pretty cool

wtf is an add9 chord... isn't the 9th just the 2nd but an octave higher? does the fact that it's an octave higher really matter on guitar?
dunno ask dj

yes

in my opinion, not particularly, but purists would disagree
but

if you consider a chord like 1 3 5 7 #9 which is sometimes referred to as the "hendrix chord", the sharp ninth in that, if you drop it the octave, works out as a minor third
which is bizarre, because you have a chord containing both a major third and a minor third, except the minor third is up an octave

if you tried to play that sharp nine as a minor third, without putting it up the octave, it would sound fucking hideous
another thing is that a suspended 2nd doesn't contain a third, so that's another difference between a sus2 and a ninth chord
the ninth chord is either major or minor since it has the third in it, but the sus2 is both and neither

ah ok this makes sense, i'll have to try it out tonight

i can understand an add9 chord in terms of piano, but on guitar it's like...

i'm already playing many major chords that have, say both the 1 and the 8

is that not considered a "pure" major chord or something?

like an open e major for example

well, i would guess the high e string is way higher than an eighth above the low e string
