yeah haha that's exactly why i love him. i think he's supposed to be that campy and over the top, it's hilarious. and when you think about it, plenty of kids his age really are that pissed about everything, and he did have a pretty shitty childhood. so you know, it makes sense within the story too.
i think azula sort of was the final boss - for the characters besides aang. in a way i think of katara and zuko as the two main characters in terms of advancing the immediate story, whereas "aang has to stop the firelord" is just the overarching plot. keeping azula more grounded instead of making her the super baddie just worked for me (would she have even stood a chance against aang in the end?). ymmv of course
