There is still a school of though among right wingers that the Civil War was just about states standing up for their rights, disregarding that the rebel states fired first based on fear of government action not any actual threat to their slave owning ways.
The American Civil War is super interesting historically because if you don't really know anything about it you would say i twas about slavery, when you learn about it you go "oh, actually it was about a disagreement on what pwoers states had!"
Then you learn more and it's like "Oh, no. it was actaully about slavery. I was right the first time."
