wow dang guys you really are shitting on doctors

imo the us has the best doctors in the world, it's just the system that's fucked up. doctors do have to know tons of shit, they're not just memorizing prescriptions

i mean there's a reason other countries send their students here to go to med school

I'm probably being overly harsh, but both me and my wife have had some very bad experiences with doctors. It could have something to do with the state though, New York is fucked up in a lot of other ways too.
It's still not hard to find terrible doctors, though.

That was just one doctor out of probably dozens that I've seen.  Most of my complaints have to do with unfair billing, bad communication, etc.  The system truly does suck in the USA.

I have heard it said from multiple people who have gone through med school that there's an increasing trend in schools teaching new doctors to treat symptoms instead of disease.
That's always going to be a problem in a for-profit system.  There's far less money to be made in curing people.

From my experience it's not exactly this and more that conventional wisdom trumps evidence-based science.  That might just be for the field of nutrition though.

As a T2 diabetic I feel this pain acutely.  Literally.  Blood glucose tests and all.
Drug companies approach inventors who have invented something good that prevents illness, and offer them huge sums of money for the patent.  They only want the patent to shelf it and prevent it from ever being produced, because less sick people means less sales of drugs.  That practice right there tells you what's wrong here.
Wow, it's almost as if healthcare is a business and not societal structure to ensure the health of its people!

That really sucks man. I'm sorry about your diabetes.
Anyone know how many drug companies in the US are nationalized?

I consider myself lucky that I have T2, which can at least be managed effectively for most of one's life with a decent diet and/or exercise.  Pharmaceutical companies screw all diabetics over on testing supplies and medications, but while I'm only on one pill right now, T1s have literally no choice being completely dependent on multiple daily injections, test strips, meters, etc.
We need more people like Saulk.  He created the polio vaccine and basically gave it to the world.  He wouldn't accept any profit for it.
T2 must be the kind that afflicted my sweetie.  His went away after he lost a bunch of weight.

Generous altruism doesn't pay the bills, though, and med school ain't cheap - especially nowadays.

People in the medical profession today aren't looking for a way to just pay the bills, though.  They want to get rich.

As far as medical school being expensive, it should be free for the student and paid for by the people with tax dollars.  Education is another area that shouldn't be for-profit.
What a depressing subject
Totally.  I need to treat this symptom of depression with meds lol.
