the stats i see always specifically state "for women in the same position, same experience, etc"
In a lot of analyses of statistics like that, I've seen lots of people point to the fact that women tend to work less hours on average despite everything else being generally equal.
no, the stats i see always specifically state "for women in the same position, same experience, etc"
that's the whole problem lol
See in California we were getting around that nonsense by shuffling titles around! Very efficient, hopefully none of the assistant sub directors of efficiency management resource delivery responsible for the idea got a raise for that or payroll's gonna jump now that they closed that loophole!
Another crazy thing is that women ASK for less pay than men. Men are more likely to negotiate higher pay for themselves, while women tend to just take what they can get and smile.
I'm trying to get my sweetie to do that now. He's underpaid (who isn't these days), but he's also afraid to ask for more money. I keep telling him to ask for a big raise, and the worst that can happen is they say no. Regardless, the fact that he asked will plant a seed, esp if he says he NEEDS a raise, not he WANTS a raise. He tells me about how other people are making more money for the same work with other employers, and I tell him that they already know that but they're not paying him more because he's not asking for it. I don't ride him about it, I'm just trying to increase his confidence so he'll ask.
Unfortunately the way things are now the risk of losing the job cause your boss is a shit can outweigh the potential benefit. Makes it hard to trust yourself on that sort of thing. :/
I'm about to get an annual increase. Last year my boss was so excited to tell me she was giving me 25 more cents an hour. I was unmoved. I'll take it, but I'm not going to have a fucking party over it. I'll probably get 10 cents this time.
He works an average of 50 hours a week, not including the times when he gets a call at 2am and has to get out of bed and fix something remotely for the next three hours, then go back to bed for 1 hour, then get up and go to work for 10 hours.
If I'm not mistaken, a law is about to pass that means all salary employees who make less than 50k per year will need to be paid overtime for anything beyond 40 hours. That should force them to give him a raise.
