Might be a bad sign that I can't seem to enjoy video games for the life of me anymore, since I need some way to enjoy myself now more than ever taking on more hours at my job.

Well, admittedly Undertale was as fine an experience as I could ask for from the medium, but other than that I'm having trouble thinking of any games that have truly gripped me over the past year.

Anyone else ever found themselves enjoying long-standing hobbies less during times of transition or uncertainty?  Startin' to freak me out.

Sadly FO4 is serving to highlight the worst of the problem for me.  If you had told me back when it was announced how little interest I would end up having in it, I'm not sure I'd have believed you.

And it's not the game's fault, it's just that I simply don't have the motivation/interest to boot it up and play.  Twelve-year-old me would be kicking present-me in the shins for this kind of attitude.

part of the problem for me is that modern games are always just so goddamned complicated, very often it takes me the entire length of the game actually to feel comfortable with the control scheme

once upon a time games were just left, right and fire and you could pick them up instantly

yeah there's a lot to be said for simplicity, the challenge in those kinds of games is an emergent one rather than one of having to master twenty controls upfront
