i mean you can avoid gambling addiction by never gambling in the first place ... seems pretty easy to me

the problem is that people don't understand it's not worth it to gamble even once, so they get slowly hooked
I have an addictive personality and know a good deal about addiction.  I love gambling but I know I'm not compulsive because there's casinos an hour away from my house and I get paid once a week - but I have not once gone there because money is tight these days, I have a sweetie to spend time with, etc.  If I was compulsive then none of that would matter.  I would go up there and I would lose my whole paycheck, max out all my credit cards with cash advances, pawn all my stuff, etc until there was absolutely no way for my to get any more cash - then next week when I got paid again I would return and lose that too lol.  That scenario has happened to thousands of people in my community since those casinos opened.  :(

yeah it's a nasty disease
Plus I know that those Colorado casinos are the tightest ones in the entire country.  truth

heh really, i haven't been to one yet
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I went to a casino once. I spent $20 and won nothing. I had no fun.

I think I'm safe.
Don't expect to win.  There's a reason they all report record profits consistently.
I went there many years ago.  I think a blew a few hundred bucks.  It was when I lived in Vegas and I just wanted to see the CO casinos.  Gorgeous setting, shitty payouts.
I won big in a Russian casino once.  I think I told that story lol.
And I went to Monte Carlo in Monaco and they wouldn't let us into the main casino because of the way we were dressed.  We had to go what they called the 'Wives Casino'.  A room full of crappy machines that men ditch their wives in so they can't see how much their blowing at the tables lol.

Some people see it like a party, they love the free drinks.  I've never once drank and gambled.  That's the worst idea ever!  You have to have your wits.

Oh man you wouldn't believe what we did with the wives in Vegas. The casino I worked at on the strip had a huge overpriced mall attached to it. It was the highest dollar sales per square foot in the country after Rodeo Drive.  I'm talking about $50K shoes, for shits sake.  We would give them gift certificates to shop in the mall all day long.  They came in $1K, $5K, $25K, and $100K increments.  Not only did it keep them from pulling their husbands off the tables, but it made them beg their husbands to come back to vegas all the time so they could shop.  It was devious as hell lol

The loosest casinos you will find anywhere are on cruise ships.  Some even lose money.  When people win on the ship they just blow all the money on the ship, and it makes them book another cruise.

Well they're not all like that.  The one I worked on was owned by the land based casino and it was more of a marketing tool for our brand.  Cruisers are often where you'll find rookie gamblers and the ship casino is a good way to introduce them to gambling and to the brand.  It reels them in!
red chamber dream
hmm wonder if it would be worth trying to win on cruise ships

(and obviously just taking all the money home, not spending it there)
red chamber dream
guess it's probably not worth it or else people would be doing it
There's zero regulation too.  No taxman, no cash reporting.

yeah gotta love intl waters

When I worked on the cruise ship, one time when we sailed from Amsterdam to Stockholm, a whole bunch of smokin' hot swedish customs officers with drug sniffing dogs came aboard as soon as we docked.  They tore apart the crew cabins, the crew bar, everything.  There was one croupier (that's what they call table games dealers in europe) who  had some weed in her cabin, but her cabin door was kind of away from the rest of the cabins and almost looked like it was for a broom closet.  Her friends sat on the ground in front of her door and started playing cards with poker chips and drinks and ashtrays and crap everywhere hoping that the customs officers would focus on them and not think about the door behind them.  It fucking worked!  If she had been busted it would have been SOOOOO awful.

heh nice
