i remember when john simpson was reporting on the 1991 gulf war and there were nailbiting moments where he was doing shit like phoning the BBC from telephone boxes in baghdad while armed iraqi police officers stood up the road staring at him because hussein had banned press reporting by western journalists, and you genuinely didn't know if you were about to hear him get shot

lol that would be me, but it's only really bad when I'm unfamiliar with the airport I'm using. I have no idea how long it takes to navigate through some of them. On a normal day at DIA I know exactly when to leave to get there right on time. If I'm coming home from some weird place, it's not uncommon for me to be sitting at the gate 2 hours early.

I've flown in and out of only about a dozen airports, and McCarran in Las Vegas is the one I've used most I think. That airport runs like a well-oiled machine. It's great. Showing up early is something I do on purpose because you can play slot machines while you wait. Nothing's better than winning a big chunk of cash right before you take off.

I did that when I met friends at Disneyland. I won $4000 and I paid for everyone's tickets to the park, all the restaurant tabs, etc. We ALL won!
