I finished my first day of doing some computer sales and it was pretty rad. Helped like six or seven customers buying big purchases, one of which was a lady flying to Mexico literally tonight and wanted to buy a $1300 laptop because hers is "old and needs something fun" and insisted on a laptop that could do everyrhing
Here's an example of how clueless my boss is: A long time ago when the productivity reports came out, it consistently showed my productivity was 10 times higher than the runner up. There was absolutely zero incentive for me to work that hard, so I decided to screw around for half the day - and I still was #1. For months now I have been farting around playing video games and only working for about one hour a day, and today I got a gift card as a reward for having the highest productivity. There are 11 people on my team, and I'm #1 in productivity even though I only work for 1 HOUR A DAY. My boss has no idea what it is that we do, so she has no idea that the productivity levels are a total joke, or that my team members are incompetent. It's such a joke. /rant
I don't mind not doing the stupid work for now. What does stress me out is watching people be so fucking useless. Several times a week I find mistakes that cost the company thousands per mistake. I seriously found another one less than an hour ago. I try to tell people what they did wrong and they look at me like I'm speaking chinese. Then they ask me for help on how to do something and they don't understand the instructions. I'm not communicating to them in a way that's any more complex than the way I'm communicating right now. They're just that fucking stupid. One lady has been trying to accomplish something over the phone since Monday, even though I told her that it was impossible and told her that there's a procedure in place that works just fine. She just insists on calling tons of people and confusing them, confusing herself, and getting absolutely nowhere. She would be done in 20 mins if she had done what I told her to do on Monday. She will probably keep trying all fucking week long. It's hard to watch. The main issue is that they are incompetent with technology, really. That's why they don't know what I'm talking about when I explain a procedure, and that's why that lady clings to the telephone (a device she's comfortable with) instead of doing the correct procedure in our system.
i know a guy who used to work in some high powered office in london and they had a couple of australian temps working there who'd been given nothing to do, so they just used to walk around putting files and documents on each other's desks to make it look like they were actually doing something
My dept had no supervisor for 2 years before I came to it. There was a guy who did absolutely nothing during those 2 years, and he only got caught because someone narced on him. He was either fired or forced to quit, not sure which. But now we do have a supervisor, and she's the 3rd one we've had in a year. She has absolutely NO clue how we do or jobs, or what we do. She monitors things like scheduling, attendance, complaints, etc but she's ineffective at coaching because she has no idea if something is done correctly or not. If we're only closing 50 cases a week, she just assumes that that's a normal number. It should be 500. I've never understood why companies put people in charge of departments even though they have no knowledge of what the dept really does except on a conceptual level. It makes no sense. There are so many things wrong right now and they won't get fixed because the boss doesn't know that they need fixing. It's nuts!
