i actually originally saw them in reverse order which was a bit of a mindfuck

saw 3 at the cinema, then 2 on video and finally 1 on TV

3 is a self contained story though, you don't need to have seen the others for it to make sense

yeah, i think 2 is too reliant on the plot from 1. i still enjoyed 2, but it has a couple of plot holes

but yeah there's that bit where doc brown has to get a blackboard up and explain to the audience the timeline stuff and yeah, not exactly a self-explanatory plot

but there have been other good films like inception and memento that have been similarly inpenetrable and are still good films

so yeah that is a valid criticism of BTTF 2 for sure, I still think it's my favourite though
