I didn't vote for david cameron but he's nailed it this time, saying he'll take refugees directly from the camps in syria rather than people who've made the journey across europe is looking increasingly like a stroke of genius

I feel really sorry for Turkey in this whole mess. They spent $7 billion trying to accommodate the migrants while they were still refugees but then Germany went and fucked the whole thing over.

some reports say that a lot of "syrians" are actually people from other middle eastern countries masquerading as syrians because they fancy living in europe instead ... I mean it's very hard to verify that but cameron's solution bypasses that problem completely

there are still 6K migrants in calais who are trying to find ways across the english channel

it's tricky because secretly the french would love just to let the whole lot get across so they're not in france any more

I don't see how this is that much of a turning point in history, though. The middle east has been a shithole for years now and immigration out of it isn't that new anymore either.

but the only way across the channel is to get through the channel tunnel and that's tricky and dangerous and there have been multiple fatalities

the UK has a referendum on EU membership coming up and people are already pissed off given the relentless economic migrants arriving from eastern europe for the last 10 years which the government has been completely unable to control thanks to EU free movement law

the spectre of a million muslims showing up on top of that may just tip the balance in favour of britain walking away from the EU
