i was watching a thing about the three mile island nuclear meltdown the other day and I never realised a) that jimmy carter turned up at the plant and b) that he was funnily enough a nuclear specialist thanks to his time working on subs in the navy
pretty awesome thing to do really, probably meant a lot to the people living there
i also watched a thing on chernobyl ... I also never realised that if they hadn't drained the water under the reactor before the core melted through to the pool ... it would have vapourised all *four* reactors on site and the death toll could have been a *billion* people
I recently watched some YouTuber's essay/doc about Pyrrhus of Epirus. Interesting stuff. Hell, I love ancient studies in general. Too bad there's no money in it and the legal procedures you have to go through to do any real research are a pain.
He was basically a brilliant Greek king and military leader who unfortunately couldn't defeat Rome because of the limitations of raising armies through hiring lots of mercenaries.
there was that thing recently where they found the camps that were used by the workers who made the pyramids, I thought that was interesting -- evidence was that they weren't actually slaves like the legend suggests but instead were actually highly skilled labourers
