I completely mixed those up with the Cinabbon cereal that came out not too long ago, lol.

You could just call it diabetes.
That looks disgusting

This guy has done some really interesting work talking about dietary fat and cholesterol.  Once you get into the history of why we (especially the US) have such a phobia of those things in what we eat, you get more and more disconcerted with how little science supports it.  Funny tbob should mention diabetes...

I don't really get into the science of it, but I'm pretty sure the way it works is by eating way too much sugar.

Admitedly I don't really care to learn, but I just kind of follow the general idea that fast food and heavily processed shit, and things loaded out the ass with sugar, probably isn't good for you to eat and should be avoided. The fact that fat people don't grasp the basics of that is pretty hilarious. Or that they think exercise doesn't actually help.

But I know that's a can of worms and last time this discussion was a debate it made whats-her-face leave the forum forever (and somewhat by extension DJ I guess?)

For real.  Sugar, especially processed sugar, has some really toxic effects.  I happen to be diabetic so that's kind of the case with all carbs.  One of the things the guy in the video points out is that on many occasions where high intake of fat and cholesterol was observed and correlated with heart problems, it was in a population that binged on sugars and starches just as much.  But then the recommendation became to increase carbs, and now the percentage of diabetics in our population is skyrocketing.  Almost exponentially.

i guess i'm lucky in that i like fatty foods way more than sweets

It certainly doesn't help that the carby stuff has been popularized so much more in the last five decades, especially for snacks/party and comfort food.  Cutting carbs out of my diet forces me to find alternatives, which also forces me to git gud at making food.

Sure, I miss pizza on weekends but I can make a real nice teriyaki chicken or pork steak that's much higher quality than 99% of what I'd eat before.

on a related note I found a costco-sized bag of frozen orange chicken in the freezer. It was like "for a family of 4 blah blah blah"

yeah, fuck that, I ate that shit all by myself, because I'm an adult

I think people have to know by now what's healthy and what isn't.  What gets me is that people don't grasp what a sane portion is.  If you know something is bad, then you can only eat a little bit of it, as in seriously a little bit.  You can't drink 32oz sodas and eat 12 oreos.  You can't eat 3 meals a day that each contain an entire day's worth of calories.  You can't eat like a fucking pig!  It's just not OK!

I find that extremely triggering, as a pig-kin I can eat a lot more than you self-identifying humans can
What I've been told by a lot of people is that if you're naturally skinny, you can afford to nutritionally "beat yourself up" until about your late 20s. After that, you gotta watch your weight and food intake way more closely.

Yeah I think it's easier to gain weight as you age, but fortunately eating like crap has a much more notable effect on how you feel, so it's easier to pick healthier food.  At least, that's how it's been for me.  I can't drink soda unless I want to feel like complete shit for the rest of the day.  And if I go to McDonalds, I will be dragging my feet with very low energy for DAYS afterwards.  In my 20's I was more resilient to junk.  Now, it really kicks my ass if I eat it.  That makes it much easier to say no.

What I've found is that abstinence is far easier than moderation when it comes to foods I shouldn't be eating.  That, and I'm really enjoying cooking for myself.  I don't even care for restaurants anymore because they don't offer much I like enough to justify the price tag.

Metabolism slows down for everybody, us high metabolism types just get so used to not having to give a shit that we get wrecked the second it starts lol. Have a couple uncles like that!

The only people that say that are people that were fatties since the beginning. People with high metabolism slow down same as everyone else, but like tbob said, they're just in lazy habits.
So the gist I get out of that video is people get heart attacks because they're fat, and people get fat because they eat way too much

Woah, what? What did I miss? How's this a topic that causes drama?

The point of the video is less analyzing why people get heart attacks and more trying to point out that there's almost no scientific evidence supporting dietary guidelines on fat and cholesterol - only correlative links with poor control for other variables.

It really shouldn't be, but try telling your doctor you've replaced the carbs in your diet with fat.  It's gonna get tense.
I could be wrong, but I think the drama from the past convo came from a disagreement on what causes obesity.  Some people believe that it has absolutely nothing to do with diet choices, and that the current health crisis has more to do with luck, or magic, or genetics, yet for some reason this factor was not present or was not affecting the population before the health crisis.
