That's what I was about to call it. But it's a broad term, referring to various foods akin to muesli so I wanted to avoid it. At least there's an english wikipedia article named muesli that is about the kind of cereal I was referring to.

in the states if you say just "cereal" it means cold cereal in most contexts.
oatmeal is considered "cereal" too, but it's "hot cereal" and not many people would call it just "cereal" except at the grocery store, where it's in the cereal aisle.
