One shall stand, one shall ball.
I mean we let a cop go after being video taped strangling a dude in the street. I'm not hopeful.
It sounds like Baltimore PD is particularly bad:

Yeah their record is awful. Sad
My bf got mad at me this morning.  I forgot to set the alarm so we woke up 12 minutes after he was supposed to be at work.  He said he's never forgotten to set the alarm in his entire life.  I told him that it was his job from now on, then.  I also pointed that he's always bitching about this woman he works with because she's late all the time, and he's never been late once, so if she can do it all the time then he's still golden.  Fucked up start to a Friday.

"Baltimore's top prosecutor has announced criminal charges against six officers in the case of Freddie Gray who died in police custody."

Stopped reading there. Sources say he died a week later in hospital care after they performed a surgery. Pretty sure that doesn't count as "police custody". He was injured in police custody no doubt, be he did not die in the transportation.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
He wasn't magically not under arrest after they took him to the hospital, a hospitalized suspect is still their responsibility.

oh yeah true, but I mean those articles always pitch it like the dude died when they nabbed him. I mean they definitely were his cause of death no doubt, but it seems like it's played up to be way more dramatic.

I'm exactly 15 minutes late almost every day and I just can't seem to get on top of it. Apparently my manager expected this though anyway and changed my shift to  be half an hour earlier than usual a couple months ago.

He was probably just grumpy in the morning like people usually are. Also, the lady that's usually late is expected to be late, so it's not a big deal. If your hubby is late and it's an extremely rare occurrence, it's probably much more surprising to his higher-ups when he is late. It's less about getting fired, and more about personal-pride and honor. Sounds like he just doesn't want people to be disappointed in him.

There's always an element of drama, yeah. Generating clicks is 90% of the job at this point for news reports.

that and the BBC grow more tabloidish week by week, it's honestly embarrassing sometimes
24 hour news media really fucked everything up since it's so competitive now you have to be able to produce news even when there isn't any. once upon a time the BBC would do the news at 6 and the news at 10 and that was it, now they seem to employ legions of retard children who aren't capable of even writing properly because clickity click click

I kinda get that.  I've had perfect attendance at my current job going on a few years now.  One tardy would ruin that.

How can you always be 15 min late?  If you know you're 15 mins late all the time, why can't you just do everything 15 mins earlier than you currently do?

grenola yeah i've noticed a big shift in the bbc over the past two years especially ... you're right that it's basically every news site now though
quantity is(n't) god
every day I feel slightly more appalled at the state of the world and I can't decide if the world's getting worse or I'm just getting more and more depressed and cynical

well, things go up and down naturally. Things were debatable much worse off during WW2, for example. I don't think it's the <world> that's getting worse, it's just the current generation is very in-your-face regarding the media and internet, which you've been used to it being much quieter.
sometimes I think about my dad's generation and the awesome shit they got to witness, like man landing on the moon

can't think of any truly inspiring moments like that that my generation ever got to see, instead we got some pricks flying a couple of planes into some skyscrapers

i think maybe we'll get some of those moments again

but yeah none yet
We did see one amazing positive moment of history: the first black US president.
I saw the Berlin wall come down but wasn't really old enough to appreciate the significance of it
I don't think I was old enough to appreciate it either.
I remember my mother explaining it to me but I didn't really get it
